I'm surprised at how underwhelming the design is. Maybe it will look better in person, but it reminds me of a hotel key card. Just sparse and uninteresting.

Maybe it needs pictures on the back to make it more "interesting".

Unless you travel extensively they are most certainly not better. And American Express customer service is horrible. I canceled my platinum as soon as Apple card was announced.

You must be more excited than you let on since you took the t4ime to click on the article and post a comment.

People who don't travel extensively aren't the target demographic for an AMEX Platinum. People who don't travel extensively are better served by an AMEX Gold or a Blue Cash/Everyday-branded card.

Just like people who do travel extensively aren't the target demographic whatsoever for an Apple Card.

YMMV I suppose, but AMEX customer service has been great for me.

I find it odd you found the customer service "horrible" when Platinum cardholders receive 24/7 support worldwide from a dedicated customer service division that is only for Platinum cardholders. How interesting.

There are a lot of businesses that still haven't converted to chip. Many of them already have the hardware, they just haven't converted the software yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The liability is entirely on the merchant at this point, so if it were my business you know I'd be converted.

Interestingly, it isn't the little mom-and-pop places, most of them use Square or similar and have chip (and Apple Pay) all set. Larger businesses seem to be more prevalent.

Plus, pay-at-the-pump gas pumps still are largely magstripe, at least where I live.

Exxon Mobil speedpass app can use Apple Pay to lay at the pumps at their gas station. It’s sups easy.

Bit much of invasion of privacy when one company has all your fingerprint, 3D face map, health, email history, internet usage, location tracking, spending, credit reports, etc. That's a lot to put in one basket if another iCloud security leak occurs.

Had to look up what the 5/24 rule was. I haven't applied for a credit card in 10 years so that isn't an issue. I don't have a credit card balance and only use credit cards for emergencies, and then pay them off as quickly as possible. I don't know what benefit Apple/Chase or anybody else's credit card would really give me. I thought about getting one that gets me points for airlines but I just haven't gone farther than looking.

I just cannot be excited about this. Benefits are way better with AmEx Plat.
An ordinary 2% card like a Penfed Power Cash Rewards Visa or Paypal Cashback Mastercard is likely to be better overall as a primary card.

I get 2% on all purchases on a Visa, which is taken everywhere unlike MasterCard.

Outside of Costco, what other places accept Visa but not MC? In my experience they're generally both accepted.

AmEx, on the other hand...

Cracker Barrel still swipes.

I'm not sure when you last went to one but they've used the chip for a bit now.

Cracker Barrel still swipes. Embarrassing.
So does 5 Guys, at least where I live. Plenty of businesses that take Samsung Pay but not Apple Pay, which makes no sense to me because Apple Pay doesn't increase the merchant's swipe fees.

Most of that data is stored on device on the Secure Enclave of the Ax processor. That’s how Apple Pay, Face ID, and Touch ID have always worked so Apple has never had access to that data.

Five Guys also uses the chip. Well, the ones here do, anyway. Maybe it's a corporate vs. franchised store thing.

As for merchant fees, my belief is that it's not because of Apple Pay per se but not liking card use in general. Many of the major retailers that still haven't enabled contactless payment (e.g. Walmart, Home Depot, etc.) are the same ones that have been suing Visa and MC for literally decades due to interchange fees. In fact, despite there being a pending settlement, some are likely to opt out and continue suing the networks on their own. Find a resolution for that and I suspect there'll be a lot less resistance.

Apple does not have most of that stuff. They don’t have your fingerprint, they don’t have your face map, they only have your email history if you use them for email, they don’t have your internet usage, they don’t have your spending etc. Most of that is not even on iCloud.

iPods,
EarPods, AirPods, iPhone 5 (I think), iPhone 7 ... and now the CreditCard all released in white first. Is Apple trying to say something subtly or subliminally here with this pattern? I just don’t get why both shades can’t be released simultaneously give us the consumer more choice please. Black salte titanium card please.

I’m aware this card will be only available in the USA first. Yet I’m curious if like in iTunes we can provide a valid US address say a PO Box and pick this up and activate on iCloud and ApplePay account for use in other countries or will iOS location prevent that?

Wow a month before summer (which is when it’s supposed to launch). Hopefully it goes live next month.

It’s just a credit card, but I’m excited about it.

They’ll be quita few uses by a high percentage of us Apple ecosystem users:
Apple Music
iCloud storage
AppleTV+
Back to school Mac purchases,
Magic Trackpad and mouse replacements,
AppleCare+ warranty repairs!!

^ and that’s all the very low hanging fruit that’s very affordable (under $200)

Let’s not forget:
Cases,
Qi chargers,
AirPods, Beats,
Books purchases (? Maybe),

Out of Warranty repairs,
New Mac, iPhone and iPad upgrades after September, Apple Watch....

I don't know how they have a case, they can always demand cash or the use of a house credit card. Fees are the price of not taking on credit risk.

Big retailers like Walmart and Home Depot can and usually have negotiated fee deals with Visa/MC and pay lower fees than their competition.

Everyone is making their own credit cards suddenly, even B&H. I dunno why, but it's annoying. Kinda just wastes everyone's time.

That’s an awful lot of lies in a single sentence.

Bravo!

Edited: I almost missed your iCloud security leak comment. That is an absolute 100% outright lie. iCloud has never been hacked. So what does that make you?

Seriously, you hang out on an Apple site and constantly lie. To what purpose?

It's not only the credit risk. Merchants pay pay extra fees just from a customer using Amex, and the customer gets extra benefits from it too. Like, why? I'm glad people have been rejecting it so hard.
