Okay im kinda confused. I have been using a temp iCloud account since I couldn't transition from MobileMe, and have enjoyed the free 5 gigs. Upon completing my MobileMe transition right now, my New account is listed as the 25 gig plan. I know 100% I didn't select or pay for it. Maybe apple is comping us with a paid MobileMe subscription with an upgraded plan? No lie.

Have your iTunes purchases been under your MobileMe account? I'm wondering if your test account was made with the MobileMe AppleID or a separate one? My test account is using a separate AppleID from MobileMe, so I am confused on how the transfer will work. Thanks for any input.

Apple also tells users that the following will no longer be available: Dashboard widget sync, dock item sync, keychains, signatures, mail account rules, mail smart boxes, and mail preferences. iDisk, iWeb publishing, and Gallery.

Lots of useful features that are being discontinued. :(

I'm disappointed that iCloud still uses the embarrassing "@me.com" e-mail domain. As people have often pointed out, it is just not professional and sounds very self-centered. I hoping they will offer an @icloud.com e-mail at launch.

Mail that delivers. Free.
When you set up iCloud, you get a free me.com email account. iCloud automatically pushes new email messages to all your devices, so your inbox is up to date everywhere you check it. And iCloud keeps all your folders in sync, no matter which device you’re using.

If we have a separate AppleID for purchases that we have used for iCloud, can the MobileMe email address now be migrated over?

Nope! We are SOL! I've been through this with Apple over and over. There is no way to combine accounts. There is no way to change the email address associated with an account. If you try to change the email address, it just creates another account. I'm in the same boat as you. My original ID that is associated with every purchase i've made is tied to an email address that has been shut down for a couple years. There are plenty of us dissatisfied with this, but no way to do anything about it. If you ask Apple if you can, they just tell you how you can authenticate more than one account in iTunes, but that doesn't do anything to solve the problem.

They can't be merged together unfortunately :( Hopefully one day in a few years Apple will make that possible.

Yeah, this stinks. From their FAQ:
If I use different accounts for iTunes and MobileMe, can I merge them into a single account and use it with iCloud?

No. You cannot merge two accounts into one. However, you will be able to move your MobileMe account (yourname@me.com) to iCloud and, if you choose, you can continue to use a different iTunes account for store purchases and iTunes in the Cloud.

It's not like I really want to merge anything. My paid content is associated with a non-MobileMe Apple ID. My MobileMe account is simply used for email and syncing. I want my iCloud identity to be my iTunes ID and instead of creating a new MobileMe address, I'd like to use my existing one. This doesn't seem like it would be that hard.

Umm, no, I just changed the email associated with my iTunes account. Open iTunes, Click iTunes Store on the left. Then, click on the little arrow next to your account name in the upper right corner and select Account. Finally, select Edit next to your Apple ID. You will reach a screen that allows you to change, among other things, your email address.

Yes, but he is saying that you cannot change the email associated with that AppleID to his MobileMe email.

No. He said that his iTunes ID associated with every purchase he's made is tied to an email address that has been shut down for a couple years and that there is no way to do anything about it. That's not correct. He can log into iTunes with that ID and change the email address very easily. He can't log in via his newer Apple ID, but he can log in using his old ID and have email associated with purchases sent to his email addresses associated with his newer AppleID.

Personally, this is perfect for me. My wife and I each have our own MobileMe accounts, but share an iTunes account for purchases. Under iCloud, this will allow us to load purchased apps, books, etc onto all of our individual devices and have own own calendar, contact, and email accounts under MobileMe.

I think the problem is (and I'm having the same issue because I have an old hotmail address used for my iTunes account and also a MobileMe account that I use for email, syncing ical, iPhone, iPad, laptops, desktops, etc etc) is that if the email address he wants to change his iTunes account with is currently used with MobileMe, iTunes will not let you change it to that email address.

This is the message I get when I try to change it from my @hotmail address to my current @me address

"You cannot change this Apple ID to use an existing MobileMe email address. If you would like to use your MobileMe account you can cancel and Sign In using your MobileMe account information. This email address you entered is already associated with an Apple ID. If it's yours, you can cancel and sign in using that Apple ID"

I think there are many people who are in this boat because, well if you are like me, you had an iTunes account long before you had a MobileMe account. I'm sure it will all work out in the end but it just sucks that Apple doesn't let account holders merge accounts. Would be nice if I could just get everything under the same @me account (iTunes (apps and music) and now iCloud).

For some reason it won't let me migrate. I'm running Lion(10.7), the new iTunes beta, and iOS Beta 5. When i got the the url, I login and takes me to my inbox like normal. Am I supposed to received a prompt?

i had the same issue. Had to manually type /migrate in from MobileMe.

Does anyone know if there is a way to totally delete my MobileMe account? Apple's support site seems to just send me in a loop.

My Apple ID for purchases is my gmail account. I joined MobileMe for the Contact/Calendar syncing but don't really use it for email or anything.

I'm looking to just wipe the slate clean, delete my MobileMe account, and then reclaim the email address with my iCloud account which is currently tied to my gmail Apple ID....

Yeah, this stinks. From their FAQ:

So why can't I log in to iCloud on Lion and my iPhone using my mobile me address (now migrated) and log in to iTunes using my current apple id for iTunes? Wont my apps still be backed up in icloud? I kinda understood the FAQ to mean it supports exactly this. Why should I care if these are separate emails as long as iCloud works as advertised.

Also I don't understand how anybody can be surprised by what was left off icloud since this FAQ has been out a lon long time.

Just migrated. Should be an interesting beta test. My developer and MobileMe Apple IDs aren't the same, but after redirecting me to Mail several times it finally gave me the transfer page.

What do you mean by this? I migrated my account but now I have two different iCloud accounts. I thought by migrating it it would allow me to use my current Me address with current iCloud account tied to my iTunes ID. Any suggestions?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5288d Safari/7534.48.3)

This makes sense.

No it doesn't, because those apps, books etc will only be loaded onto the other devices when you are logged in with that specific ID on the device without the content. So getting all that content on that central device requires logging in and out with all the IDs in use.

I do it now with app upgrades and it's a pain.

I have a couple questions.

  1. If I’m a developer and have a family pack account, and migrate that account, do the other 4 accounts also migrate? What sort of storage do they get? Or are they automatically separated from my account, but not upgraded? I wouldn’t want my family accounts to be suspended because I upgraded!
  2. Does iCloud still let you use the "@mac.com" email address. I previously had a dotMac account, then moved to MobileMe, but have honestly been slack on moving emails to the "@me.com" address and wonder if moving to iCloud will stop forwarding those emails along to MobileMe/iCloud? Anyone know, thanks?

For me the wrong way around.

Great, the features I use most are gone.

Especially I liked Gallery. Locked better then Picasa, flickr or Facebook. Simple Upload with iPhoto. And I never wanted to share my Photos with the World anyway.

I also use iDisk to share data with selected groups. And I backup my most important data there.

When I subscribed I did not think that iWeb would be interesting. I was wrong. If I want something simple and visually appealing it is just perfect.

But the real killer feature was the “all in one” approach. Now I have to find replacements for them. And there won't be a one in all solution any more.

Being at mixed user (Mac OS X and Android) I have no use for iCloud at all and will downgrade.
