I just migrated and am not a registered developer. Had to manually type the url and it went very smooth.

Wow your right! I almost migrated, it almost let me but I remembered that I want my mobileme email address to die because I like my new icloud email address better. :) too bad i'm going to be missing out on the extra storage. Will they give me a refund if I cancel my mobileme early?

This should only be done for developers who are signed up for both the iOS and OSX dev centers, right? Stuff won't sync over to Lion unless you have the iCloud beta software installed?

Messed up

Well i messed up on my migration. I forgot I had forwarding turned on when it was MobileMe then migrated to iCloud. i thought everything was fine until i realized I wasn't getting any incoming messages. I checked my iCloud settings and it shows forwarding disabled but it is still being forwarded. I guess i am stuck until the go live. :(

I am a developer for iOS but not Mac. I tried to download iCloud beta 4 and transition my mobile me, but it won't let me install iCloud on my hard drive? should i download 10.7.2 and iCloud beta 6 and try? i don't wanna transition if i have a chance at losing all my data.

My MobileMe account migrated finally but my addresses did not ... any one know how to get them there? Thanks...

You're talking about contacts? I had to sync them on my Mac running 10.7.2 first.

Make sure contacts are selected in iCloud section of the Mail, Contacts and Calendar system preference, make sure MobileMe's services are turned off (the iCloud installer actually removed my MobileMe preference pane), and finally launch Address Book.

They came down quickly to my iOS devices after that. My contacts did not migrate over initially.

IF you read thru the dialogue on these pages, you won't see ANYWHERE (actually quite to the contrary) that ALL US USERS that can't move to LION are LEFT OUT.... NO iCLOUD.... NO MIGRATION.... NOTHING.... and as of the end of June 2012..no MobileMe either... we're hosed.

This applies to MILLIONS around the world and seems a bit short-sighted on Apple's part.

Oh the humanity!

Are there really millions? Are there actually millions of MobileMe customers whose newest computer is 4+ years old?

I did the migration yesterday, but it gives me 5 GB instead of 25... I guess it has to do with the fact that my account is part of a family pack? Are there other mobileme users that have automatically been given 25 GB of storage?

More than you seem to believe

We have more Macs here that can not go past Mac OS 10.5 than we have that can go to Mac OS 10.7.

Dropping all the synchronisation features has taken me by surprise. I was not expecting to lose the ability to sync bookmarks, keychains, etc.

Will Apple open up the sync API so we can sync these with other providers or will it be removed from the OS also?

I use MobileMe for the sync features; the only item I use that is being kept in iCloud is calendar sync. Wish I'd signed up for Google's calendar now and I wouldn't be missing anything.

Mine is a family pack and I got 25G.... I had the master... the others are still mobileme

Thank you for the reply... MM services still show in my SysPrefs and is turned off. I have made changes to the address book and they communicate to my iPhone but not to the iCloud services...

Is there a way to print out the addresses from the address book app?
EDIT: Never mind found the print function... feel like such a twit...

I'll really miss Keychain sync. I have loads of Secure Notes that I update regularly, and it's so nice to see them updated across my Macs. Time to look for an alternative

1Password works GREAT. And you can sync up the app through Dropbox so all your comps have the same logins.

Can someone share some light on how to use Dropbox to sync up dock item, Mail Accounts, Rules, Signatures, Smart Mailboxes, and Preferences?? I don't get why they don't have this enabled for iCloud. I use it everyday to keep my Macs the same between desktop and laptop...

Thanks!

I'm looking to just wipe the slate clean, delete my MobileMe account, and then reclaim the email address with my iCloud account which is currently tied to my gmail Apple ID....

If Apple doesn't offer any way to fix this, my worst case scenario plan is to just cancel my Mobile Me account to free up the username and then try to grab that name again when I upgrade my gmail Apple ID with all of my purchases on it.

DO NOT do that! Email addresses are not recycled. That means even if you delete your account, that address will not become available for new registration again. Ever. The address is simply deactivated.

This is a security feature of virtually all email hosting companies (gmail, yahoo, etc. included). They cannot and will not reuse email addresses because it opens up the possibility of identity theft. Think about it: if you register your email with online banking, then close your account, then someone else registers the same email, they could potentially use that email to reset your password. It is common policy to never recycle email addresses.

Unfortunately, I know many people who have done things like closed their gmail account hoping to reregister and lost their account forever. In the case of gmail, the account is permanently deactivated and can never be used again. I think Apple allows you to reopen your account (that's how it worked with MobileMe, not sure about iCloud) but in any case, the best you could do is end up right back where you started. Apple has repeatedly stated that they will not merge accounts, and there is nothing else we can do. We are SOL unless something changes.

Thanx foodog, I'm not the master account, maybe that's why... Oh well, I guess 5 GB is enough for me anyway, just got happy when I read this...

I am in the same situation. The me.com/move thing at first seemed to let me migrate. There was a popup about letting iCloud use my accounts. But as I was unsure how to proceed I closed the popup. Since then I only get the message that "this account is not yet eligible" ugh! I think I lost my ONE chance by not doing it the first time.
