Music just isn't the primary driver of business for Apple anymore. Things move on, products get EOL'd, and surrounding services and events to those products must end too. The iPod is all but gone, and so the music event that helped baluster hardware and iTunes music sales must go too. The money is with paid for streaming services, rather than stolen music loaded onto a device other than phone. I was fortunate to have won and attended one of the nights (Mary J Bilge-pump to be specific), it was a great night for sure. Perhaps Apple will film more special events and broadcast them over Apple TV in the future, maybe even utilising VR technology. That seems a bit more aligned with their business trajectory and would allow greater access for its customers wherever they be.

I thought Tim Cook once said that "Music has a special place here at Apple"
Yeah, "music is at the core of everything we do here at Apple"

Perhaps only when it doesn't negatively affect the balance sheet.....? This penny pinching is getting tiresome....
After all it couldn't be for lack of available talent, nor for lack of available funds on Apple's part.

It would probably be a good idea to restart the festival somewhere else and actually charge something between $35-100 in Rio, Buenos Aires, Seoul, Miami, Toronto and maybe Mexico City (depending on security), would be my picks.

Overhead by fly at recent Apple strategy reason: " Can someone please explain why we need to spend tens of millions on live music festival when we can have artists come to our stunning corporate car and sing karaoke for free!?"

We could speculate all day long, but let's apply Occam's razor and take the simplest explanation with the fewest assumptions: Apple is a company designed to make a profit, and the music festival didn't fit into its business plan. Nothing sinister or evil about that, just a reality. I'm sure they analyzed the hell out of it and concluded it didn't do enough for the brand and pocketbook to continue.

Seoul, Miami and Toronto are probably the only real options from your list, Rio, Baires and Mexico City are too much of a liability due to security.

This sucks. In the month of September it was major promo in London for both Apple (Music) and the artists.

In previous years I won tickets to the Adele, and Norah Jones events. Really sad to see this go...

Not getting popular artists, as they demanded money, could be a reason.
My guess too. Not the artist demands though, probably Apple thinking they still are walking with a big stick in the industry, and wanting some sort of exclusivity with whatever artists next song or album as part of the deal. Artists telling Apple to shove it.

Sad to see this go. Also, no mention of My Chemical Romance or Imagine Dragons in the "noteable" performances? Oh well.

I have breaking news: the new music festival will now relaunch itself as Apple Music Music Festival X Snow Leopard

On a different note, anyone saying that it is business as usual in the U.K. following brexit needs to take their head out of the sand. It only shows how ill informed they are.

You're probably right. Miami is the gateway of the Americas anyways, and the amount of people in those countries with disposable incomes is low. However, Ultra Brazil is pretty successful every year and after the Olympics they should be better equipped to handle it.
