iphone 5

yes my contact list is sad
Doesn't seem to happen on my iPhone 5, but probably because I have more than a few contacts that don't fit on one screen and start with different letters, so letter dividers are used. Seems like a bit of a display bug. Truthfully there are way bigger things to probably fix than something like that, and often even when there aren't small things like that might go unaddressed as they don't really actually break anything or truly impact the use of something. But, yes, technically it's still a bug (even if a low severity and a low priority one more than likely).

iOS 8.0.1 coming sooner than we expect. I'd now expect 8.0.2 to come with :apple:Pay enabled.

BL.

I'm pretty sure 8.0.1 is already in carrier testing. For most major releases, the first bug fix release is already done before the major release is publicly available.

Seems like even more could come from this war room effort so 8.0.2 might not be far off either.

I'm shocked to hear there is 8-year old code in iTunes. (I know nothing about coding, programming, or the like). No wonder the app seems so bloated (he said, fairly confident the two could have nothing to do with each other)

Its not the code thats 8 years old, its the content (music, video, apps) that is 8 years old. Its likely something to do with the metadata in the servers. Something was malformed that until now did not cause any issues since at the time redownloads from iCloud did not exist. Seems from the article that it has a recognizable pattern and therefore can be fixed on the servers so that when a user retries to download it later it should work.

Apple employee #8 (literally the 8th ever Apple employee) Chris Espinosa was in charge of Family Sharing and is providing loads of support on his Twitter - https://twitter.com/cdespinosa

In a brief time I spent meeting him at this year's Maker Faire, he seemed like a genuine down-to-earth guy. My 5-year old son had a great time playing with his creation, Giant Spirograph. You would never think of him as the longest working Apple employee.

Following the launch of iOS 8 to the public yesterday, Apple employees in Cupertino are working to locate and remedy iOS 8 bugs that are popping up. As described by one Reddit user, the company has a "War Room" at Apple where employees are tracking down issues on social media.

After installing iOS 8 yesterday afternoon, Reddit user Kiggsworthy tweeted about a problem he was having with Family Sharing. Shortly afterwards he was contacted by an Apple employee on Twitter, who requested details about the issue.

According to the employee, Kiggsworthy was experiencing a bug the team had been attempting to track down, but couldn't reproduce, but his experience was able to help them solve the problem and push a fix to other users.
Earlier this month, Bloomberg writer Adam Satariano detailed a program that Apple runs for iOS devices, called early field failure analysis (EFFA), which helps the company fix bugs almost as soon as they originate. It appears there's a similar program in place for iOS 8, with the company aiming to solve issues as quickly as possible.

Apple employees on the early field failure analysis team and those working on iOS 8 will likely be working overtime this weekend as the first iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices with iOS 8 installed will be in the hands of customers tomorrow.

Why don't they run Effa BEFORE rolling out iOS to public if its so damn good? Just a thought. Unless this has been written by a 13 year old?

It's not the same for software. And even with great coverage it still won't cover all kinds of almost endless possibilities that are out in the wild (real world). In any case the whole point of EFFA is to analyze and quickly address issues that users run into--it works based on end-user experiences so by definition it isn't soemtbing that can even be done fully/properly without something being in the hands of actual users.

Anyone haveing trouble when they turn the phone landscape the app doesn't rotate and you have to turn the phone around a few times to get it to rotate. It's minor but annoying.

Also I am one who hates the new photos app it sucks I don't like the recently deleated it's an extra step to get a photo off my phone. I had a person send me a pic that was a joke but a bit dirty I deleated it and didn't relize that it would have another folder for recently deleated pics. Well then I go to show my mom something and bam right there I could see the thumb nail for that pic in the recently deleted folder. Lucky for me my mom didn't see it. Again I may just be bitching and it's minor and I could see it being kind of usful but just wish it was implemented better. Oh and the fact that now my Instagram can't access any of my photos unless they are less then 30 days old is a bit anoyong too. Why couldn't they just leave the photo app alone.

In album view I can't see any photos in recently added that are older then 30 days is pretty lame. I don't like using the photo tab I prefer the album view. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

iOS 8 working flawlessly (with motions and parallax activated) on iPad mini 1st gen and iPhone 4S. Can't wait to see it running on my iPhone 6. Thanks Apple.

Really? I read that the 4s display is not big enough for iOS 8 to operate easily and smoothly. How much space did it take to install? How much free storage left after installation?

You can only do it from photos tab now. It's pretty much the same just with time/place separators that actually can make things easier to find.

I don't keep many photos on my iPhone and find that Anyang that I have to do that. But it's what ever I guess I will have to get used to it.

Yes, I get that bug a few times a day.

Also, typing and selecting text in Safari is buggy now. Trying to select more than a line or two of text doesnt work. Also, autocorrect is very inconsistent when typing in text boxes like this one.

Anyone having issues with 2 Factor authentication?

I can't completely enable cloud services on both my computer, a Mini running the latest Yosemite and an iPhone 4S running iOS 8.
Both will send a code to my phone yet I never receive them on my number.
The number is like this +31 (*) *******60.
It is a shame I can't see the whole number since I want to be sure the (*) is the leading 0 in front of the phone number.
But, it has worked before, just not now.
The problem is, the help Apple provides with links doesn't work at all, there is just no way to get this working again.
As I told before, it worked 100%, just not now so it seems to me this is another bug.

While the screen might feel cramped in some views (application switcher, new email composer…) I haven't found it to be much of a problem.
BUT, the iPhone 4s just does not have enough ram for iOS 8. Webpages chrash all the time and constantly need to reload. Apps barely stay running in the background when you switch out of them (I used to use my phone to listen to radio streams, which no longer works, because the get terminated soon after I switch to another app.)
So yeah, I would not recommend upgrading at the moment. Let's see whether a future update will bring some improvement, but I don't know how much optimisation is even possible. It's not like you can download more ran on this thing.

I think in two weeks I'll be back on iOS 7.

When you don't outsource you engineer, this is the quality you can have over spreadsheet management.

some of the bugs are so obvious and reproducible every time the only way no one found them and fixed them is if no one looked for them in the first place. great process they have in there.

If they had monkey like me they would have 12 bugs fewer in this gm.

Trying to execute a web link in the messages app results in a terminate of the messages program. It does not execute the link in safari.

I downloaded iOS 8 and it works fine on my 5c. It was a bit wonky at first and then got straightened out after I re-entered some passwords and such. The only problem I'm having is the app store.

Every time I try to download an app on my phone via wifi to update, it continues to wait and hangs, or even stops. So odd. And all of this continues to persist despite the fact I kept using the right password, so I eventually changed it to a new one. No progress.

The only thing that worked was downloading via desktop iTunes but nothing through wifi. The wifi router works fine and I did enter the right passkey for the phone to have permission to log in every time.

So I'm a bit stumped whether it's the phone itself or the actual server that's being clogged up by those iOS 8 adopters? I was told by a friend to do a clean install from scratch to clear out the problem.

EDIT: never mind. I fixed it with a restore and got it to work. It's all good.

Sorry to hear that, but if you are planning to go back, so it now; don't wait long as Apple may restrict going back. Maybe it's time for a new phone if it's within your budget.

Listening to music that is stored on my iPhone 5, using the music app. When I try to skip a song, it skips multiple songs, and I can't skip back to the songs it jumped over.

Edit: this is when just hitting the home button when the phone is asleep, then skipping without unlocking the phone.

I really expected Apple to release an iCloud Drive app. But no such luck.

Same, along with and a Preview.app exactly like the OS X version so that we can annotate and print and rotate pages, etc.

As for the article, seems like a very good quality process to me. We'll see how things turn out in the coming updates, because I've been testing all the betas and I feel like there's still a bunch of bugs left in the GM.

Bugs like..?

Is this a Bush-style War Room where we go looking for bugs that don't exist or is it more of an Obama-style War Room where we don't declare war and don't really identify any enemies?

I registered JUST to adress this issue...WHY remove the pics or album from CAMERA ROLL!! I'm a photographer and have THOUSANDS of pics (organized) in my phone. Now instead of going to camera roll to see pics I took with my iPhone or pics from online, they're MAKING me going through ALL my pics that I've ever taken with phone/DSLR/etc!!!! Common Apple please fix this. When I went to facebook to put up a pic, went to camera roll and there were only a few "recent" pics, and have ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to access the rest of the pics I used to have on my camera roll.

dude. the camera roll is just supposed to be for recently taken stuff. learn to organize your photos into albums or events.
