I'm surprised how few people have mentioned iTunes - aren't there rumours of iTunes 8 for next Tuesday? I've got my fingers crossed for a better UI and a few new features in the software.

I believe so, and I for one can't wait. I hope it, along with the 2.1 iPod/iPhone firmware update, makes managing app store programs much more intuitive and stable.

Though it's unlikely, I'd speculate that it wouldn't be that unusual for Apple to spend 45 minutes talking about the new iPod nano form factor, the adjustments to the iPod Touch to make it look more like the iPhone and then do a "One More Thing" with the new form factors for the macbook and macbook pro.

Or at least, that's what I'm hoping for.

Also, one thing is probably a guarantee: Steve Jobs will probably make the entire presentation by himself (except perhaps for a corporate guest) to prove that he's healthy to the terrified investors out there.

I don't know what I was thinking. iPods are not yet irrelevant. But I reckon this time next year. They will be.

I wonder if any of the design details are clues about the interface of iTunes 8.

I have a feeling that iTunes 8 is going to be the big deal here. The Nano just isn't worthy of an event. iTunes will be, and perhaps how it works with the phone and Touch as well as we should see 2.1 rolled out on that day.

There may be some surprises with Quicktime 8 too, and personally I am hoping for a touch-remote for iTunes that doesn't cost a bomb. We don't need a bunch of GBs of memory for such a device.

Engadget confirms that there is an Apple media event for September 9th as rumored.

Apple is expected to release new iPod nanos and a new iPod Touch. While Macbook and MacBook Pro updates are also in the pipeline, we have heard suggestions that those will not see updates until at least October.

Oh Huho! That Aint No iPod In His Hands, I think Apple and Hasbro Signed an agreement on Transforming MacBooks!!!

MacFormers! "Buy Optiumus Jobs or your Child will scream at you!"

Interestingly the screen ratio seems the same for the current nano and the screen shot shown .

How does Apple currently plug the nano?

"A little video for everyone"
Maybe they'll have Gina G at the gig... ;)

"It’s the small iPod with one very big idea: video. Now the world’s most popular music player lets you enjoy TV shows, music videos, video podcasts and more. iPod nano’s larger, brighter display means amazing picture quality. In six eye-catching colours, it’s stunning all around. And with 4GB and 8GB models starting at just £99, little speaks volumes. Learn more

Watch up to 5 hours of TV shows, music videos and podcasts.
Brighter Display
iPod nano sports a larger, 320-by-240 resolution display that’s 65% brighter than before.
Browse your music by album artwork with Cover Flow. View everything on your iPod nano in a whole new way.
In anodised aluminium and polished stainless steel, iPod nano is 6.5 mm thin and even more beautiful."

Could they bring the resolution up, with a bigger screen, and as the volume is bigger, bump to 16GB? OLED?

I don't really see this as good news.... macbook pros in OCTOBER?
so my plan of waiting for an update and buying right at the start of uni is pointless. how frustrating.
can anyone remind me on apple's return policy?

any other new students a bit miffed at this?

So, we'll see the universal-remote looking nano replace the nice looking nano. (is that a step forward?) Maybe something else, but the event announcement makes it look iPod-centric.

There is a leaked (alleged) iWork update photo floating around out there somewhere.

That is a possibility for an upcoming release in the next couple of weeks, with back to school and all.

Really annoying from my point of view, willing to spend up to £1000 on a new laptop for starting Uni on the 27th September, hoping the 9th would be the big release date and it's about iPod's which everybody has anyway, grrrrrrr

This event needs to be called, "Lets Get The iPhone 3G Working Properly"

Honestly, how they can even be moving on to different products when their leading product is absolutely sub standard is beyond me.

Jeez. If you want a laptop, buy one. If you want the new model, you'll just have to wait. But then you nailed it hen you said your plan was pointless...

When can I buy them?

So it's clear that these things are being announced on the 9th, when exactly will I be able to go to my local Mac store and pick up one of the new items?

How does Apple usually do this?

I want to buy the new iPod touch, as soon as possible :D

Anyone know?

Aaaaaaand another one. It could be said that everybody has laptops, too. I have two.

I just don't get this. Do you want a laptop or not? If so, buy one and stop blaming Apple because your plan is so dumb.

Arn: Clarification please

"...While Macbook and MacBook Pro updates are also in the pipeline, we have heard suggestions that those will not see updates until at least October."

WTF ??? I can't wait !!

What do you guys mean by "suggestions" ? I suggest Apple to release their new MBP as early as possible !!

Anyone know?

Last year, a few people were able to go to their Apple stores and pick up a new iPod Classic the day of the event. Alot of stores didn't get the new iPods on the event day and it took a few days to get them.

Well, if one DOES come out, its hardly pointless, as I'll have the new model, and I don't need it before uni. And of course I'll have to buy now or wait. I am aware of the concept of time.

Does anyone have a constructive answer to my post about Apple's returns policy?

?? Try - let's get the U.S. a decent 3G network first, then we'll start talking about standards..
Return policy - have you tried googling it first? I'm sure it's up on the website.

Does anyone know if these events are usually liveblogged?

That time is right in between my classes....

Apple has learned that releasing a number of products (iPhone, mobile me, 2.0, and the app store) all at once is very bad. Apple will release the products when they see fit.

Alright, thanks. I'll make sure to call in ahead of time :3
