Also, is it a bit strange if the iMac gets updated some time later this year before the Mac Mini (when the Mac Mini needs an update more)?

I heard the rumours about iMac but not the Mac Mini.

Thanks for the golden oldie!

Thanks to whoever posted that old apple invite to clear up my thoughts on the "RSVP to.." thing. Still, I doubt they are real because invites are sent to all the journalists, and we definitely would have heard something by now.

Also, don't get me wrong. I'm a sceptic that this was the invite, but that doesn't mean I'm not a mac fanatic. I've had 5 ipods, and (fingers crossed) I'll make the switch from the dark side to a MacBook when they get released on the ninth(?). Wish me luck!

Hmm...

...maybe!
I don't see any signs that these are fake.

"Give it a little touch…" A little (iPod) touch??? 2.8"???

"Take another look…" …at the (glass) trackpad because it has a display???

There are so many very sceptical and afraid of change people here.

I, for one reason, am very excited to see what Apple releases.
So am I. Bring it on Apple!

I expect two tablets. One at September 9th (regular MacBook Touch tablet) and one at MWSF 2009 (iPhone OS X mini-Tablet).
Furthermore, I think the Mac OS X tablet may be the "One More Thing…" on September 9.

Hmm...

Well, those invites look pretty nice. Whether they are fake or real, doesn't the pinkish one give a date of Sept 16, and the other one Sept 9?? Maybe I missed it in the thread, but what's the explanation for that?

I'm still skeptical of these images, but after mulling it over, I had some thoughts.

For all of those who are as slow as I am, the images (at least to me) look like they are from the point of view of the iPhone/iPod touch (or maybe glass trackpad??).

On the first one, see the fingers reaching down "towards" the screen? And the tagline "Give it a little touch..."

The second one obviously is a similar point of view, but something slightly different. The technology for solar recharging isn't up to snuff for a consumer product as of today, but if I didn't know that, it sure does look like the rays of the sun entering the glass. I'm not suggesting that's what this is, like I said, the technology just isn't there. I'm just saying that if what I see from the first one is correct, it wouldn't be too far of a logical leap to see that from the second image.

I've got three conclusions from this:

First, if what I'm seeing is correct, this is a pretty creative announcement. One that clearly had some thought behind it. I think that lends some credibility to it.

Second, if the tagging of the images is correct, the first one is dealing with iPods and the second with Macs. While the first image (from the point of view of a multi-touch device) is pretty self-explanatory, the second one is a little more puzzling since there isn't a Mac that currently has the ability to see what the image is showing. I think this points towards a glass trackpad with a second screen behind it (think the Nintendo DS). "Take another look..." (emphasis mine)

Third, lets assume that the dual-dates thing is true-- that there will be media events on both the 9th and the 16th. Can you imagine the hype that will be going on for these events? Especially the second one. Apple releases new products and tells everyone to be back in a week-- they've got more to show us. This points towards a MAJOR announcement. They update iPods and the like on the 9th and then release COMPLETELY redesigned laptops and perhaps a multi-touch tablet. Apple is king of hype. If the dual-dates thing is true, the announcements for the second media event will have to be HUGE.

Here's my disclaimer: I'm still pretty skeptical of the authenticity of these announcements. First, if they were sent to major media outlets, we would have heard by now, so this means that they're in "pre-release" form. Sometimes these things are true, much more often they're not. Second, the person who posted it is a "newbie" (not that "newbies" cannot have good information, I'm just stating the facts-- PLUS, the person joined in Oct. 07) and hasn't said anything in the thread since originally posting it nor did he or she post where they received these images from in the first place. They very well could be real, but I need more of a source than this. If MacRumors or AppleInsider picked this up, that would alleviate some of my suspicion, but that has (as of this posting) yet to happen. I absolutely am not saying that the person who posted this is trying to mislead us in any way, I'm just taking a "wait and see" attitude about it. I really do appreciate his/her contribution to the conversation-- whether what they posted turns out to be real or not.

That being said, I'm less skeptical than I was a couple of hours ago after mulling it over and even more excited than I was before. I'm truly looking for something game-changing out of this event if these announcements turn out to be true. Nevertheless, all this is pretty exciting in a nerdy kind of way! :)

I love the idea of a new line of minis. maybe about the size of the apple tvs or time capsules, starting with low spec atom-duo processors, going right through to about 2.4GHz C2D. I can also see apple updating the look of the displays - maybe to match the new laptops/mini??

Does anyone else think maybe apple could start again with the touch - try to make it totally different to the iphone?? 2.3-2.8 inch screen, WIFI, and maybe 16,32 and 64GB options. Maybe with colours aswell (instead of rumors of iphone colours)?? And a plastic back?? Retailing from 149 for the 16GB, 199 for 32 and then 279 for the 64??

I dont like the idea of tall nanos - definately no touch screens.

Also - could apple maybe do a bit of an update on the 9th. Just let everyone know that there are new products coming and then let everyone know when there will be special events happening for them. Maybe one for the ipods (a week later) then another one for the notebooks/mini??

One more thought - often they release NEW products on these tuesday the 9th events... I am still not sure about this macbook touch idea - more leaning towards a netbook style thing that relects the mac mini in style, specs and price. That can then be their discount line.

Any other thoughts??

If Apple was releasing a MacBook Touch in a bit over a week, manufacturing would have begun weeks ago and somebody would have discovered the FCC filing for it and posted it since even with the "stealth" period, we'd likely be around the time they had to make the filing available for public review.

Plus somebody would have like seen the case it would be in and leaked it. Or an accessory (a "body sleeve" or something).

I think they will by 1 to 2 inches. The resolution, however, will likely go down from 1680*1050 and 1920*1200 to 1600*900 and 1920*1080.

Or, Apple could unify the resolutions at 1920*1080 and differentiate the iMacs more by specs (low-end GPU and dual-core CPU in the 20", midrange GPU and quad-core (or high-end dual-core) CPU in the 24").

Either or both ways would likely mean the iMac moves down in the low end, which increases the likelihood of a dual-core Atom-based Mac nano (whatever that probability is).

Right on.

And let the whining commence... until the invitations show up the next day. :D

I actually prefer 16:10 because then you can run full 720/1080p and still have the controls/menubar. I'm okay with blackbars in fullscreen mode.

this would be true if apple had released details already. what's to say that apple arent going to announce/reveal the new product/s and all the details some time then start shipping later so that they don't need to give away details then risk them being leaked. also, they may be using different companies to build different parts of these new products, then may consolidate them and quickly throw them together in a month ready to ship sometime in october??

Maybe this new product is too special (if there even is one) to risk. See my post before where i talk about announcements, followed by launches...

21" 24" and 32" may be? all HD widescreen....

or maybe 3 versons of a new mac mini? one with no screen, one with a bulit in screen (like an imac mini) and one with an optional, decatachable screen?

I think it's much more likely, given Apple's penchant for bigger screens, that they would drop the 20" and shift the prices over. But I think what you posted is entirely possible as well. Although I think there's only a couple other companies with 30+" monitors in the wild.

I agree. But maybe they have seen the sucess of other companies (esp dell) with lower spec, cheaper monitors and will totally change the line. I am thinking the 20" for 200ish, a 22 for 250 24 for 320 then a pro style around 30" for 7-800. With the 24 & 30"models, an led option will be there. ALS restyled to reflect the iMac and new laptops. Aluminium with black. Maybe iSights?? But I'm not too optimistic that well see these too soon but if apple really change their style in the next few weeks then they will have to do something soon.

I can't wait for the updated iPods. It would make me mad though if they release some on the 9th and then a week later, they'll release another iPod. (Probably won't happen).

If apple adds a touchscreen to all the iPods, then there's no reason to name the iPod touch the "iPod touch" anymore. Same goes with the shuffle. If the do add some sort of screen to the shuffle, it should be called a shuffle anymore.

I think the current iPod Shuffle should be called the iPod Nano. The current nano should be called the iPod Mini, and if they add a touchscreen to the classics, they should merge the touch and classic lines to the iPod Mega.

For macbooks, can't wait for some updates. Getting tired of the design, even though it's still nice, but a little change won't hurt. The only bad thing they could do is keep the design for another year and just change the insides.

I really don't see the use of a glass trackpad with a screen. Coverflow is cool, but I don't even use it. Lists are much faster.

I like the current touchpads on the macbooks. I'm not looking forward to glass or anything that attracks fingerprints. (The exterior of the white macbook is an exception.) What I really want to see in a macbook is a memory card reader and probably a fingerprint reader. A lot of notebook PC have these options and it wouldn't hurt to add them, (Apple likes to keep things simple. Look at the Macbook air...)

Hopefully the don't use a black keyboard on aluminum. The first time I hated this mixture was when they used a black apple logo on the iMacs. I think apple is getting rid of white. The tall and skinny iPod nano mockup had a black click wheel and I don't like how it looks. Could be worse. (Apple uses a black apple logo on the new macbooks).

Well, just gotta wait 2 weeks.

I seriously do not see apple adding anys sort of card reader/fingerprint reader to the macbook. It just doesnt suit the style of the laptops. I think it is highly likely that apple will introduce black on aluminium in the macbook/pro.

As for the ipods - i think it is more likely that the shuffle is left alone or dropped - definately no screens - and a new nano come out - with a 2 or 4GB model for under $100. I like the idea of a classic cross touch. maybe about the same size as the classic but with a touch screen/wifi etc. the only problem is the capacity. Until apple can squeeze 160GB into a touch, it better not happen.

ohhhh.... the waiting is so painfull - why wont apple just put us all out of our misery?? Grrrrr... maybe i should just buy a PC... Or not

tipped off by apple reps

i was tipped off by a friend of mine at apple when i was buying a new macbook pro to wait until september until i buy one but he said nothing more
so i think the release of the new intel quad core for laptops will be in the macbook/macbook pro when it comes out in september

Hmm...

My initial hunch is that they're fake - AppleInsider hasn't acknowledged it. Hell, Macrumors hasn't even acknowledged it.

But when thinking about the titles, the first things that came to mind were:

Give it a little touch - a "little" touch - ipod nano touch (although I think this is highly unlikely, it goes with the phrase well). Logically, I'd say they've done a lot of new stuff with the iPod touch. I DOUBT it's a tablet.

Take another look - Macbooks "take" on "another look". If these are real, I'm almost 100% sure that's what it's saying. A new, aluminum, look.

The fingerprint reader is not that important, but I just wish for at least an SD card / Memory Stick Duo Reader. I don't like carrying an external card reader.

Apple should get rid of the mini dvi on the macbooks and use the real one, or at least include the adapter for free. Worse if they make another proprietary port and charge a lot for an adapter. Maybe apple likes people carrying accesories. If they update the Macbook air, I think they should include something like HP's expansion port and sell a docking station (Not Apple's Style Though). One usb port is not enough. (At least 2 is okay)

Other than the new ipods, Apple shold redesign the earphones. They should also use a different material on the earphones because they break real fast. They should also improve the audio quality.

Even the power adapters on the macbooks. They should use a different material and maybe make it longer. I find them too short. Even other wires such as the ipod dock connector are too short.

That's a very good point - as I just looked down at my trackpad, and what do you know - rounded corners at the top and square corners at the bottom, the same shape as the "supposed" invite. I'm not saying that I think they are real or not, but... hmmmm..

I totally agree. Minor updates to MBA (USB speedbumps etc) and a new docking solution. I used to use one of the hp systems - it works very well. All you need is another, small port on the side, one cable and everything is easy to use. Good point with the DVI. But apple like to make things hard.

Grrr, the wait for the next iPod touch is killing me! To satisfy my appetite for it I've already gone and downloaded the apps that i'm going to put on it! Sad, I know.:D

As for that invite, I'm a bit sceptical, because if it was legit, we would have heard by now confirmation of a Sep 9th event.

I'd acutally like to see a netbook as an option as well.

im very close to picking up a eeepc for longing around, if mac brought out an option, i'd take that. internet with no virus's, ftw.
