Seriously, Some of us have been waiting for the macbook pro. It better not be just ipods. Anyone know if they have ever announced both new ipods and computers at the same event? After the disaster of mobile me and iphone launch, I feel like they will want to pace themselves..

Jobso acknowledged to his team at AAPL that they tried too push too many things out-da-door during the iPhone launch. For the person Steve Jobs is I m pretty sure he wont be repeating his mistake again.... especially after acknowledging his wrong move not so long ago.

Even though m waiting on a MBP rev, I believe we wont see iPod and portables being rolled out at same time. They will trickle it down one at a time.

Just imagine a scenario where new iPods and portables are launched in one go and they come across bugs on both product line....

Apple is already busy solving the iPhone-3G and mobileME bugs the last thing they want id another Product line melt down. Not happening IMHO.

New Phone or TV

I saw an ad for a Sony "HDTV & Computer" all-in-one, and it made me think back to Apple referencing 'lower margins', I have to believe the margins on these TVs are lower than Apple's typical margins. To me it makes sense to have a new product that possibly has inherently lower margins versus willingly dropping margins on something that is in high demand (e.g. iMac and MacBook). Granted I'm not sure what the advantage for the consumer is on an Apple brand TV.

However, and I know this isn't sexy, but now that my contacts are on my computer, my ipod, and my wife's iphone ... I just wish my home phone was made by Apple and had a wifi chip to also sync the contacts.

Has this ever occurred to anyone else?

How long will the pain last :(

I've gone through numerous ipods and iphones (got the 3g now) but I haven't had a Apple computer in over 15yrs. I'm waiting for the a MBP rev to finnaly join the club. I hope hope hope that it will come in September, for I need a laptop desperately for college.

Here is my fear though. For one all of these increasing rumors of ipod revamps and the sudden death of any Macbook / pro updates has worried and saddened me. I've also been pondering this thought; I read a rumor on this site that was talking about possible bluray playing in 'Snow Leopard.' It would be vary odd to me for Apple to release bluray support and not have the hardware to utilize it. I'd Imagine that Snow-Leopard would be released around WWDC. So would Apple release new Macbook/pro notebooks with no bluray drives and then a couple months later release an OS that supports bluray?

So I would believe that Apple would release Snow-leopard at least on if not before new Macbooks if it does in fact support bluray.

That's kinda stupid imo
like wtf with your prices. Apple isn't becoming a new Dell anytime soon
And I don't get the 18 inch screen screen. I've never seen one in my hole life.
Besides, 15 inch macbook at 999 IS IMPOSSIBLE OK :D

hahaha -_-

Nothing is mentioned in the news item, except iPods. Kevin Rose also spoke of a new version of iTunes.

Why do I have a feeling that this media event is going to be exclusive to these products, while a notebook refresh will happen at a later time...

I dunno, I just haven't seen any of these rumors actually pointing to a notebook refresh on September 9th. All I keep hearing about are iPods and iTunes.

Is 2.0 any heavier than the version we saw at WWDC?

Yes, 2.0 weighs 30 lbs. more but is 10% smaller despite having an increased EGO module.

Good point, but that far into the promotion (with one week to go), how many iPod's and old Macbooks do you think that they have left in stock? I've seen a few reports on iPod shortages, and don't forget the "leaked memo" a few weeks back predicting shortages in laptop stocks. I think they're running low already...

And that's a really good question. As tight lipped as Apple is about things like that, I don't know how easy it is to estimate.

I think they time it just right though.

Stop production early enough so that by the time the back to school promo is over you have very very few of the old units left. Then you just recycle the aluminum/superdrive/anything else and sell the rest as replacement parts.

The MBA update is almost guaranteed. As are the iPod updates.

The MacBook Pro update is likely, the MacBook update much less so.

I don't believe BluRay support will be in 10.5.6 or the new MacBook Pro. I think it'll be announced in January, when it's added to the Mac Pro and announced as a feature for Snow Leopard, and be available as a BTO option for the MacBook Pro. BR is too big of a feature for a x.x.1 update. Here are Apple's choices:

- Add it to the MacBook Pro. Add provisional support to Leopard. More development time to an OS that's got its days numbered. Can't add HDCP support (major new feature, have to update all GPU drivers and major OS code. Lots to support with no testing ability beforehand). No HDCP means no DVD Player support, or support that could break at any point. Only data options available, but then, BD Data isn't that widespread. Why rush it? People don't expect it. It's not urgent.

- Leave it until January. Announce it for Snow Leopard (where HDCP and DVD Player support can be added), and add it to the Mac Pro, ready for the imminent release. Developers will have all the hardware necessary to test HDCP on beta releases before it ships, and it can be a BTO option for the MBP (mini upgrade. Makes people think the line is significantly updated when they've only replaced a drive).

Apple have learnt not to do too much at one time. New hardware in the notebook and iPod lines, together with imminent releases of OSX 10.5 and MobileOSX 2.1, and ongoing Snow Leopard development, should keep them occupied. Adding a major new feature to Leopard, without much testing being done, or an incomplete and useless solution (HDCP), is stupid.

Personally, I'm just hoping for an update to Logic Studio right after the event. It's nearly been a year, and fits any announcement of Quicktime 8...

If the curved one is the new nano then it has major design flaws:
1.) Curved transparent plastic face for the screen==Lots and lots of glare.
2.) Plastic curved face == Scratch magnet like 1st gen Nano (intentional design flaw).
3.) Curved back == cannot be placed on table/flat surface to watch video's.

The screen will definitely be flat but the curved plastic bezel mars the screen viewability.
