If they go an update the iPods while, yet again, ignoring the MacBooks and MBPs, I am going to lose it. That would totally be answering a question nobody asked, especially with all the talk about the iPod market being saturated. Along with many others, I have been waiting for a new MBP since... about April. And my old iBook G4 isn't going to last much longer.:mad::mad:

Apple sure likes to toy with us.

Finally.......getting closer to something.....aluminum MacBooks...come on...........

Yeah but if it's the 9th, why do a mac release a week before the iPod/Mac deal (back to school) ends.

I don't think they want a huge bunch of returns, unless they think for some reason, students are still buying "for" school.

I think Apple has learned, so, when you see products NO LONGER in the stores, that's the sign these days that a newer product(s) is/are coming, shoot, they did it for the airport express - remember? The G series was off the shelves for almost a month before the "n" speed arrived.

If this date is true, then, as many people have pointed out, it comes before the end of the Back-to-School Promotion. Thus, its reasonable to expect that the actual release of the new iPods will be sometime shortly after September 15th. In my opinion, this will push back any potential MacBook release to mid-October at earliest.

I don't think Apple can wait too long before responding to the Montevina offerings of other manufacturers. Whether they choose Montevina or another (nVidia) chipset, laptop upgrades have to be coming soon. Plus there's the language that was used during Apple's recent financial results conference call, about a product transition that would affect Q4 revenue - in other words, would affect revenue before the end of September.

I still think this is PRICE CUTS first, new products in NOVEMBER maybe OCTOBER - have to wait these days to see the products not in stock - that is the give away, they don't like having two weeks worth of stuff coming back to them.

waiting and waiting...

ill go crazy if its not about new macbooks/pros, ive waited to long for this

Lots of us in the same boat. Given all the buzz about new iPods and the silence in rumorland about MB/MBP, in addition to Apple's likely aversion to launching multiple new products at once, doesn't look good for those of us who have been yearning for a new laptop all summer and even earlier.

Suppose Apple puts priority on raising excitement among the iPod hordes before Christmas. They know we (Mac computer users) will be around...

As insanity-inducing as a wait thru Oct, even Nov, might be, we need to brace ourselves for such a traumatic autumn

Exactly, let's see, back to school PROMO NOT ended yet = NO NEW MACBOOKS.

We're looking at October at the earliest, probably November.

I think, maybe some price cuts though and then, if Apple were really smart, add GPU's from top to bottom, differenciate the MACBOOK from the PRO buy offering 4 cores on the MBP, that would set them apart BIG TIME and if they could keep them at the present price (or close) you would have PRO'S (less than 1~2% of market anyway) buying PRO machines for work, Macbooks (games, 3d, not to worried about machines) as a second computers.

See, if Apple did release GPU on all machines and made MBP with 4 cores, PRO's would buy two (2) machines as the 4 cores would for sure be worth it as the rendering would be cut in half, something a PRO would use without question and knowing they could buy a $799 Macbook with GRAPHICS would be a no brainer - one machine for PRO work, the second for lounging, taking on the trips, and still able to work.

Also need to update the MACBOOK displays though.

BLESSINGS ALL!!!

I still hope they merge their portable lines. Have 13", 15" and 17" versions of laptops, with the 13" Air going a little smaller to 12". This way everyone can have something they want, with GPU and LED screens to go around.

Ok, why is every one thinking the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros would be released in October or November?

I am still 99% sure it is September.

It does not make much sense for October or November.

If the iPods are released on September 9th, I don't see how the MacBooks could be released in the same month.

It seems some people forgot the iPod touch was announced before the end of the back to school promotion last year (September 5th, I think). The iPod was simply released a few weeks later. The back to school promotion is done to clear Apple's backstock of Macbooks and whatever iPods they are planning on updating (this year it's the iPod touch and/or nano). But you never know with Apple, so we shall see... ;)

I HIGHLY doubt Apple will release the new iPods during the free iPod deal. I say they release the new Macbooks before the update to get rid of the last inventory. Because its free, people are not allowed to return it.

That's kinda stupid imo
like wtf with your prices. Apple isn't becoming a new Dell anytime soon
And I don't get the 18 inch screen screen. I've never seen one in my hole life.
Besides, 15 inch macbook at 999 IS IMPOSSIBLE OK :D

So you want everything to be high?

Neirther have I but it doesnt mean they dont exist
more are on their way see bellow..

as for a 15" at $999 or bellow being imposable? umm...

Dell 1525
Dell Studio 15
Dell XPS 1530
HP models
Sony Models

These links prove you worng. Apple can very well offer a laptop for bellow one grand.

The new trend coming in computer (desktop and laptop) displays is to use 16:9 panels to match HDTVs (as opposed to the 16:10 panels now used). Many of those new panels will be different sizes then current ones due to the new aspect ratio, so a 17" 16:10 panel will become an 18" 16:9 panel.

as a 15.4" model will be the new 16" model. Sony and acer are the big guys in this. Acer with their 16 and 18" models and sony with a 16" model. As blu-ray becomes cheeper, its more a chance they will get in to peoples homes and more people want it on their computers.. Having a 16:9 screen is better for blu-ray then a 16:10. I've seen 16:9 notebooks and I like what I see.

What per cent chance do you see the new Macs switching to 16:9 ratio?
I hope they do.

If the macs get blu-ray soon then it may be soon. Blu-ray is only good at its native res. 16:9. and I'm sure apple will go blu-ray sometime. I mean thats where the market is. Imange a MBP running mac OSX 10.5 and vista ultimate with a blu-ray drive. Now thats one sweet multimedia machine. Best of both worlds..

Christmias shopping season. But I rather see it in september to,

too many are either stubborn or ignorant and keep believing "September is ipod only month"

so? not everyone cares for a brand new ipod.I've seen people with ipods that are 3-5 years old... some even still with the mini. Hell I saw one dude last weekend with the original 5GB ipod from 2001!

they can also keep the free one or sell it off.

who cares about ipods? give me my macbook!!

You should care because the iPod are the future of Macs and Apple. Someday your iPhone will be the only computer you will need. Bring it home and wirelessly connect with a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and printer.

Never fear though as if you lose your iPhone MobileMe has you backed-up and you can call or email to have your iPhone remotely wiped. Once you get your new iPhone all your apps, settings, data will be sent to your new phone upon request.

When Apple releases the mobile edition of iWork and iLife this concept will take another step forward.

I look forward to this way of computing but I would opt for a iPod Touch over the iPhone. :D

Some more evidence towards an October/November MacBook release:

-The past two fall MacBook/iBook updates were in November.
-All of the MacBook/iBook second-half updates have been in October or November (except for the one in July 2005).
-All of the MacBook Pro/PowerBook second-half releases have been in October or November (except for the one in September 2003).

I thought the touch came out along with the other ipods (classic and fat nano)

what makes you so sure they wont be relased in october or November, Truth is no one sure some rather belive "september is ipod ONLY month while others have an open mind...

doesnt really mean anything. We are expecting MAJOR updates not just a simple speed/spec bump

Nope. They were all announced on the same day I believe, but the iPod touch was not released until the end of the month.

I understand what you mean, but it still shows that Apple has almost never done notebook-related stuff in September.

I'm gonna have to rewatch the keynote....

they should put out new macbook redesigns before new ipods because the just got redesigned a year ago but not the macbooks
