Man, I can't wait to get my hands on a new MacBook Pro.

And I definately can't wait to make the long awaited switch from Windows.

C'mon Apple don't let us down.

Nice! Can't wait until the 9th! I'm hoping the mac mini gets an update and isnt discontinued. It is the perfect thing inbetween the imac and the mac pro.

That's kinda stupid imo
like wtf with your prices. Apple isn't becoming a new Dell anytime soon
And I don't get the 18 inch screen screen. I've never seen one in my hole life.
Besides, 15 inch macbook at 999 IS IMPOSSIBLE OK :D

Hey Jojo,

16 and 18 inch screen with 1920x1080:
http://gizmodo.com/367053/acers-blue-ace-aspire-gemstone-blue-notebook

16 incher from Sony
http://gizmodo.com/5025169/sony-vaio-fw-and-sr-series-first-164+inch-notebook-macbook+style-keyboards

And you're right, absolutely no-one could build a 15 inch laptop for under $1000. Oh yeah, except every other major computer manufacturer. Those components all come from the same places, chips from intel, lcd's, optical drives, hard drives, RAM, etc. There is no magic here, it is possible. If Apple wants to take back more market share they will have to compete on price someday.

It's funny how everyone's predictions for the MB's slide down a month once it starts looking unlikely.

i hope there are new macbooks...was just looking tonight at getting one and saw this so I think I'm going to hold off and hope we see something new. I'd be bummed if I got one and something new came out right after. That's happened to me before...

I have this powerbook I basically just use to browse the internet and do minor stuff remotely and it's about time to upgrade and sell it while it's still got some value.

Sony Models

These links prove you worng. Apple can very well offer a laptop for bellow one grand.

For those who are dying to know, here's what's going to happen!

September 9th will be all about iPods, Mobileme, and maybe a recap on iPhone 3rd party apps. They will also release 10.5.5 around that time.

The Macbook Pros will be updated (not revised) the first or second week of October. Total revised Macbook Pros will be out next summer (spring at earliest), and they may announce them at MWSF.

Sorry, not sure about the Macbooks... because I don't really care about those.

I guess there is nothing new for the iPhone users

Don't get greedy... you've already had your update. It's the Macbook Pros turn!

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm sick of reading about iPods/iPhone/iAnything!

Well I have been waiting awhile to update.
I have a Powerbook G4 667mhz -

Was going to upgrade this past summer, but all of the LED issues popped up.
Seems that the Nvidia graphics card in the Macbook pros (as well as the ones in the PC line up of the same version) are corrupt. - I believe its the 8600 and 8400?

Anyway, hoping they put in a new card - and have the LED issues solved finally.

Dont know, but the Lenova with the built in Wacom, Blu Ray drive/burner, and quad core laptop is looking nice. (Sept launch as well.)

Yes, I have been a die hard mac fan for 12+ years...but I wish Apple would put some more of the things in there Im looking for - again, to each their own. (At least they can finally get past all the battery, power chord and other issues that have been a plague to macbooks ever since I owned a Pismo G3.)

Peace

dAlen

p.s. -
Dont get to excited ipod touch guys...Im sure the update will take away the nice metal back and put on the cracking plastic backing that is now on the iphones.

Dang, another rumour and their was me all set to order a refurb Macbook Pro today. Now I'm not sure. Can't afford to wait any longer.

Though saying that, when I got my Mum to buy herself a Mac Mini in March, updates were supposedly just a few weeks away.

I can't imagine the updates will be anything that expansive.

iPods & iPhones - of course. This line is Steve's baby now and they are working them up to keep ahead of an eager market trying to catch up to an obvious and gigantic technical lead. These will take away any serious care given to the other items Apple works up. iPhones just updated, so no new iPhone update this time, all iPods.

LCDs - not likely. What can they do? Change the screen and thus keep prices high? Add an iSight (doubt it)? They can make them cheaper, but I can't see them making them much bigger or more functional.

Macbooks - maybe a new shell and faster CPU, bigger drives. Nothing amazing.

MacPro, MacMini - Maybe higher processors. Why rework great designs at this time?

If a new shell *yawn* for a Macbook is excitement, this is probably your time. I doubt Apple is going to do anything exciting outside of iPods unless they actually have a tablet in the works which split off from the iPhone technology. Jobs mentioned last year he will be diverting attention to the iPhone development for a stretch of time. But, maybe we'll be surprised in September.

Aside from a MacBook shell and the iPod I suspect the big updates to much of Apple's stuff will come in January.

I had friends in college who went the first few months of classes with nothing but notebook paper and the public library computers in order to secure the latest laptop and not be one of the suckers that gets the hand-me-down shovelware.

That is me right now...

Do I know you? :p

Apple Store Re-Modeled ?

The Eaton Centre Apple Store in Toronto, Canada is currently being re-vamped. this makes me wonder why they are doing this at one of their busiest times of the year, back to school computer shopping.

does this mean they are getting ready for a big product update? or just that they chose to re-model at a bad time?

has anyone else seen this? or have any thoughts on this?

*** the caption on the left side of the store says "Full Feature. Not Full Size" ***

**Edit** usually the store goes right to the end of the white part but you can see a door on the left hand side of the entrance for what looks like a construction entrance.

It's funny how everyone's predictions for the MB's slide down a month once it starts looking unlikely.
Reminds me of what happened a month or two after the initial redesign rumors in April. Many people said that the MacBook Pro would only get a speed bump in Q3 2008 and a redesign next year.

There were those who stuck it out through those months (I was one of them), and it looks like the same thing may be happening now.

For those who are dying to know, here's what's going to happen!

I find it hard to believe this, given that rumor after rumor points to a significant update (even a redesign) for September.

What about new MacBooks at Apple Expo in Paris (September 17th - 20th)?
Apple is not attending the Paris Expo and has not done so for a few years.

don't care

Give me a new MacPro. Don't care that much about ipods. Unless they make some fundamental change... they're just mini media hubs.

The caption on the left side of the store says "Full Feature. Not Full Size"

I see... that means the store is smaller, but has all the stuff inside.

It is an awkward time to redo things, but then again if this is happening in almost every store I would suspect a ramp up for new products with some special display.

From 9to5mac:

Apple makes 'Big Brother' CCTV video surveillance play
Tue, 08/26/2008 - 07:27 — Andy Space

Here's an unusual one that's crossed our desk this morning - Apple's getting into the crowded Big Brother CCTV market, and will appear with leading security vendor, videoNEXT (love the Next in that name) at a special event next month.

Yep, that's right, the company that once praised the crazy ones is now looking to deploy its technologies in new ways in order to keep an eye on people, so they don't get too crazy...

So, what's the deal? OK - "videoNEXT and Apple will be co-hosting a panel of industry experts who will be discussing the future of video surveillance and where video meets information technology," we've been told.

Chance for a demo of new video kit, or a video take on iphone etc? Remote view, use of iSights etc.

I don't think Apple can wait too long before responding to the Montevina offerings of other manufacturers. Whether they choose Montevina or another (nVidia) chipset, laptop upgrades have to be coming soon. Plus there's the language that was used during Apple's recent financial results conference call, about a product transition that would affect Q4 revenue - in other words, would affect revenue before the end of September.

It looks like September holds the promise of great announcements from Apple. Radical new products will increase profits and in turn drive the stock up.

So the Mac tablet is coming after all?! It may be released at the iPod event on September 9. But since it's just one product, it would have to make a really big impact on its revenue to make a significant impact on total revenue.

Maybe the product transition is the switch to multi-touch glass trackpads on all notebooks, as well as multi-touch Mighty Mouse for desktops. However, I really can't see that affecting revenue unless there was a display on them or something.

It looks like the tablet is most likely.

Apple also described their formula for introducing "state of the art new products at prices their competitors can't match". They explain that these new products introduce new "technologies and features" (like the iPhone), justifying their initial higher prices. Over time, they expect to take advantage of scale and engineering to drive prices down. Apple suggested that they would follow this formula again and are "very excited" about what they have in their new product pipeline.
The only thing that I can see that fits here is the tablet. I can't see any Macs fitting this (unless they had, say, custom chipsets), and the mini-tablet is, hardware-wise, a bigger iPod touch.

I see... that means the store is smaller, but has all the stuff inside.

It's for the tablet! :p

If Apple moves to nVidia, that means a new iMac, a new Mac Mini, a new MacBook and a new MacBook Pro. So four new models being launched in quick succession. Apple will likely need a few weeks just to space those various launches out in order to both prime the channel with product.

Apple might launch the MacBook and MacBook Pro together because a MacBook with an integrated 8-series GPU is going to compare very nicely with the current MacBook Pro. So Apple likely won't want to wait a week for the MBP, but will instead launch it (with a 9-series GPU) simultaneously. One to two weeks later they could roll out the new Mac Mini and then the new iMac two to four weeks after that.

Not necessarily, what's to stop Apple using intel chipsets for say the iMac and Mac Pro, while nvidia for the the Macbooks. Though in all likely hood they would switch one manufacturer completely. Just saying.
