This has probably been mentioned before, but no one seems to remember. Last year's update was before the end of the promotion. They simply modified the free iPod agreement to exclude all new models. Quite simple. I distinctly remember walking in to purchase my MBP and checking out the new fat Nanos. I walked out of the store with a MBP and a 8GB 2G Nano.

Also, if I recall correctly, it wasn't that the Touches were shipping at a later date, it was just that for some reason they weren't in stock right away. I don't believe Steve said anything about them specifically launching any later. Just... Production issues or something.

In short, the 9th is entirely plausible.

Also I wouldn't expect notebook changes till the 30th at least. Probably later. But that's just me.

Yeah but if it's the 9th, why do a mac release a week before the iPod/Mac deal (back to school) ends.

I don't think they want a huge bunch of returns, unless they think for some reason, students are still buying "for" school.

I may be wrong, but didn't Apple take returns of the original iPhone after the announcement of the iPhone 3G?

I believe it was for iPhones bought no later than 30 days prior. Or something like that; the number's probably wrong.

Just got back from rewatching the Touch portion of the '07 keynote. Steve left us with an ambiguous "later this month."

Exactly, let's see, back to school PROMO NOT ended yet = NO NEW MACBOOKS.

I was going to let the stupidity of that statement slide until I saw the caps. Just last year, Apple introduced the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro and the new iMacs during the Back 2 School promotion.

You are wrong. Think next time before capitalizing words so everyone can see them.

But, but, but, CAPS make me cools on the internetz. Am I doin' it rite?

Anyway, you are spot on, and that very fact gave me hope this long that updates would be early September, not mid-to-late September as some had hypothesized.

iMacmatician, what is your prediction on what is to happen tomorrow? Do you think any thing is going to happen at all? I would like to see your opinion.
I don't think we'll see anything today. Generally by this time or so there are some last-minute hints of any new product, even for minor Mac updates. The lack of such hints tells me that either the update is so minor it went under the radar, or there is no update (much more likely).

It seems that there is a problem with the Sept. 9 date for iPod/MacBook updates. Isn't it true that Apple's Back To School offer runs until Sept. 15? Apple says that if you, as a student, buy a Mac between now and Sept. 15 you can get a free iPod with your purchase. Thus, how can Apple introduce new iPods just a week before this offer ends?
They can make, and have made before, those iPods ineligible for the promotion.

Ok, why is every one thinking the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros would be released in October or November?

I am still 99% sure it is September.

It does not make much sense for October or November.
Ask those people who still seem to think the MacBook won't go aluminum and the MacBook Pro won't be redesigned until 2009.

All the rumors point to September (or October at the latest), and most point to the later part of September. That and the fact that Apple has released products at the end of a month before leads me to speculate a September 30 update.

What about stores currently running out of MB/MBP and the rumor saying that Apple suggested shops to load up their stock for august? If the new notebooks will arrive in oct/nov, does this meen MB/MBP will be out of stock and hard to get?

That's right...At the end of July/beginning of August Apple told all resellers to stock up because inventory will be slow or non-existent in August. Another point of Macbooks in September.

Looking forward to the new iTunes and possible subscription option. September is going to be a huge month for Apple. Hopefully this will build up for a great Macworld with computer updates and the release of Snow Leopard.

Ipod Nano?????????iphone Nano

Couldn't that be the Iphone Nano?
Makes more sense than making an ipod nano bigger!!!

I see them announcing the new iPods on the 9th.

Then a few weeks later sending out another invite with the famed "one more thing..." and that will release the laptops

like they did last year if i'm not mistaken?

It's possible, since the iPhone was out for quite a while before the release of the iPhone 3G. Also, the iMac G4 was out for the better part of the summer and back-to-school season before the release of the iMac G5 in August 2004.

Although a September update is most likely, an October/November update is possible if Apple had originally slated the notebooks for September, but unforeseen circumstances forced Apple to delay their release a month or so. It's also possible that there is an announcement in September, but the actual release is some time later.

Snow Leopard is slated for around June 2009.

i'm going to be incredibly sad if they don't announce the new MBP's with this supposed "Announcement Ceremony", I've already gone all summer w/o a notebook, i've been waiting since january for the redesigned MBP and Montevina Chips, I can't go much longer with out a laptop, i'm a college student and my desktop pc needs a companion.

November release = sucky, who says Apple can't release ipod's and notebooks on the same day(announcement atleast)

It's the beard, people…

I never noticed how much Steve Jobs looked different although I do hope he stays well enough health wise for himself if not for Apple.
Actually, if you go back and look through photos, the latest look for Steve was probably most noticible for the reason that he was completely clean-shaven. Steve just doesn't do a clean face and has sported the scrub/full beard for a very long time (back when he was hiding the pudge in '01 when he was annoucing iPod 1.0).

I truly believe he was approx. the same weight from the past couple of years, but without the beard to cover his thin face, we just noticed it more but didn't really know what had changed.

(Well I did, because I'm really smart.)
