OLED, A14?

Features that have stayed in the pros and not affected their price despite improvements elsewhere on the phone and the base model storage increasing.

They want to make the pros more affordable in comparison to the base level model but I think they may have judged the wrong market to get greedy - ofc will probably be proved wrong - but I would have upgraded had the price remained the same - but I suspect somehow Apple will survive without my upgrade this year....

Your phone is always with you, the expensive camera gear not necessarily. I love photography but I take more pictures with my phone camera than any other. It's a game to me to really pay attention to my surroundings and find compositions and things of interest.

YES!!! So many people think photography is about having the best gear. It's not. It's about ability to see, life experiences, imagination, timing, gesture, mystery, recognizing decent light, and the desire to create strong images that ideally release a narrative in a viewer's mind.

My iPhone is always with me. If I see an interesting scene on the street, I can immediately capture it as a candid. If I come across an interesting person, I can hit them up for a bit of conversation and a portrait.

Fair enough. I readily admit that I do not have an eye for the art form as I am not a very visual person and therefore focus on the written form, perhaps because I am not able to visualize in my head. However, I can say that your photographs are genuinely impressive.

So how many are disappointed that there’s no charging brick in the box and they’ve replaced the cable to usb-c to lightning? I certainly don’t have a USB-c charging brick...

Also curious on who else is disappointed in this generation iPhone because:-
No TouchID
No 120hz screen
Better camera onLy on the max (yes I am aware of why)
Notch size

Everyone before Apple: You don't need another (USB A) power brick, just use one of the dozens you already have.
Apple before: Here is the latest Apple Watch Series 6, brick free, just use one of the dozens USB-A you already have.
Apple now: Just trash the hundreds of millions of USB A charging brick and buy from us an USB C one! sAvE tHe pLanEt

Anyone notice that the Lightning cable that comes in the box has a USB-C charger plug?

Yes- that's right, you can't use the included cable with the USB wall adapter chargers that used to be included with iPhone- got to buy another USB-C power brick if you want to charge at a regular speed.

The iPhone 12 still charges via a lightening port. Including a USBC -> Lightening helps those that have a newer Mac that does not have USB-A. The USBA-lightening cable still works on this device.
BTW, the move to remove chargers and cables is being pushed by some governments as a way to avoid waste. This is not necessarily some money saving scheme. Kinda like hotels asking you to reuse your towels for multi-day stays.

I wonder how long my (extremely old) Nokia USB-A charger would take to recharge a 12 Pro? :)

I have a 30W USB-C charger in my desk monitor - no problem there.

But I will buy a USB-C car charger for a new iPhone, earbud "box" and Surface. My existing one hasn't got the ooomph for the Surface.

What in your mind is a transformational change? I promise the iPhone 3G and 3GS were not transformational. In fact every update since the original iPhone has been evolutionary not revolutionary. When was the last transformational iPhone update? The iPhone 4?

You’re comparing between the 3G and 3GS, where there was incremental change.

The iPhone 3G and the iPhone 4 was transformational change.

It was the first High-DPI screen, combined with, potentially infinite creativity with the App Store.

Additionally, the iPhone 4 looked and felt 5+ years ahead of it’s time, unlike today, where it's a slight increment on something, that feels, not new. And therefore, not worthy of it’s cultural gravitas.

Note the distinction between those two terms.

Screen brightness!

12 Pro - 800 nits max brightness (typical)
12 - 625 nits max brightness (typical)

But both say 1,200 nits max brightness (HDR)

Any explanation?

There is no lightening port. Its a magsafe port

Was thinking the same. If they have had some sort of discount for the power brick and AirPods, I’d be a little more convinced that it’s not about money. Just a little.

Because Apple has, for the longest time, been the purveyor of decent, small phones, while all the industry was moving to ever bigger beasts just to accommodate 3G/4G/whatever tech du jour and the batteries needed for it?

Guess what, now you're getting a small phone with 5G. Just because you or many in this community aren't in the market for one of those, that doesn't mean there isn't an entire segment of the market that really appreciates that kind of product.

ok, apple has been making their phones larger every year since iphone 4(let's leave out the s models). and now that they finally decided to not only do that, but also offer a smaller model(thank god for my wife) you think they deserve to look like some kind of pioneers? bull.

I was all okay with their earlier decision of not including charging brick. But this happens out to be pure business. Profit maximisation and nothing else in the guise of environmentalism. The reduce cost that should have been there because of non inclusion of charging brick and earpods does not translate into any real benefit to the end users. Despite knowing all these, we all will buy these phones because there is no real alternative to ios which can give us its phenomenal experience and privacy. Sad.

I've never used EarPods, other than trying them out on an iPhone 3G, years ago. And then buying a set of buds on Amazon for $25 that properly sealed and were far better.

Regarding chargers... Between many phones and iPads, having a dozen wouldn't surprise me. Same with my wife.

It would be insane for Apple to continue including these knowing how many people are likely in a similar situation. Is Apple saving some money? For sure. Is there an environmental benefit? Also for sure. And I'm very much OK with both. Life goes on.

Not sad at all.

Speak for yourself. What about the first time buyers? I was supporting their environmentalism until yesterday when they announce the price of the new phones and the previous gen phones. The iphone SE that was launched with chargers and earpods is still costing 399 USD after they removed the chargers and earpods from the package. If this is not profit maximisation, then I dont know what is.

Presumably their parents already have some extra cables and power sources in the home that the first-time phone owning kid will be able to use.

As for the rare individual who has absolutely no other USB powered devices and possesses no existing Lightning power cables, well they'll need to go buy them. These things are readily available and relatively inexpensive. Any increases in the cost-of-entry to the Apple ecosystem will be evaluated by those buyers, and it may potentially sway them towards another option.

If this is not profit maximisation, then I dont know what is.

Business 101 -- for-profit corporations seek to maximize profit.

Marketing 101 -- for-profit corporations will spin things in as advantageous a manner as possible.

Neither of the above should be a surprise to anyone who's paying attention -- and if it's a source of anger and angst, then life is going to suck since this is how the world works.

The above is no "defense" of Apple. It's merely a statement of fact. Apple isn't your friend. Apple doesn't care about consumers. Apple cares about Apple, about profit, and about keeping shareholders happy. This is what big corporations do. Doesn't matter if it's Apple or Samsung or Lenovo or HTC or AT&T or Verizon or whomever.

Don't like what Apple does? Vote with your wallet. That's the only message that matters.

Is that red or Coral, because it looks like the previous Coral. Then again Apple has been humping the pastel pallet for about a decade now.
Yea I only like the black. Even the blue looks too dark where it will probably look black in most light
