Not that unique. The iPhone before my 10X was a 6+. I suspect a lot of people upgrade every 2-3 years. And, a lot of people make photographs, as I do.
A lot of people take photos, sure, but I doubt few will see or care about an improvement between the iPhone 11 Pro to this. For the record, I am a user that buys every generation of iPhone usually. Before the 11 Pro, I had the Xs, and the X before that.

I have the iPhone 11 Pro and I don't see anything about the new model camera that would even remotely tempt me to upgrade. Perhaps people coming from older models as the 11 Pro was a huge improvement over previous models.

USBC, touch ID would be real every day use improvements that would get me interested. 5G is a big step forward but as of yet there is only limited access. Maybe in a year that will be more useful.
Nailed it. To pay to alpha-test the 5G network which just GTMd and is extremely unready for the mainstream is a ludicrous prospect.

People who are into and serious about photography will, for sure.

Pro Max 5x optical vs 2.5
1.7 pixel sensor with 60% more light
Sensor-shift OIS

$100 more
Larger
Have to wait till 11/6 vs 10/16

Frustrating that you have to change to the larger form factor and wait weeks longer, but seems like the upgrades would be worth it.

Thoughts?

This is incredibly misleading of Apple and I’m amazed this made it to the public. This is nothing short of them outright LYING about their cameras because they are so far behind the competition.

The pro models do NOT have 4x or 5x optical zoom, the only increase in optical range is the pro max with the 2.5x lens. So after 4 years they managed to muster up an entire .5 extra optical zoom over the iPhone 7+. When they say 4x and 5x optical zoom they are measuring from the ultra wide camera, it’s like taking 2 steps backwards from a given point, and then taking 4 steps forward and claiming you’ve moved 4 steps forward from your original point, it’s bs marketing lies. Don’t expect any nice telephoto zoom capability like you see on all other flagship phones. The rumor mill is saying Apple won’t have a true periscope lens until 2023, which is sad, who knows what the competition will be doing by then? I have some ideas, but don’t want to give them away.

So how many are disappointed that there’s no charging brick in the box and they’ve replaced the cable to usb-c to lightning? I certainly don’t have a USB-c charging brick...

Also curious on who else is disappointed in this generation iPhone because:-
No TouchID
No 120hz screen
Better camera onLy on the max (yes I am aware of why)
Notch size

sneaky.... 12 mini 699 is for att and Verizon. Unlock is 729
How much is that for you with taxes? In EU it's 804 EUR or 944 USD for the base 64GB iPhone Mini model.

The model I want, a 128 GB iPhone 12 is Apple selling here for 968 EUR or 1,137 USD.
Crazy when compared to base 128 GB iPhone 12 Pro which sells for 1,096 EUR or 1,287 USD. Who would get a 128 GB iPhone 12 and not a stainless steel Pro for this price?

*shrug* Doesn't matter to me. All my existing USBA to Lightning cables will still work fine. So will my existing Qi pads and stands.

Surely you have at least one or two extra USBA Lightning cables and USBA power sources?

TouchID would've been nice.
Don't care about 120hz - haven't yet seen why it'd make any real world improvement for my usage
12Pro camera would be a fine step up from my XS
Notch hasn't ever bothered me.

YMMV.

Notch over punchhole for sure.

Sales taxes vary widely in the US since they're state and local based.

Some places have zero sales tax, though not many.
Other places are 10% or higher. Think the highest is 12.95%
Where I live it varies from 6 to 9% depending on which county and city I make the purchase in.

Remember when Steve presented the iMac. He wanted everything in one box. The customer would take the computer out of the box, put the power plug into a socket and would be online in no time. He wanted perfect user experience.

What does Tim do? He gives us an iPhone, which by the way costs more than the iMac once did, just with a charging cable, and when we unpack and use that phone on a Saturday, we will run out of power on Sunday and we will have a perfect user experience with no working charger in the household.

This is what happens, when you let a bean counter be CEO.

How many charger plugs do you already have at home?

Anyone notice that the Lightning cable that comes in the box has a USB-C charger plug?

Yes- that's right, you can't use the included cable with the USB wall adapter chargers that used to be included with iPhone- got to buy another USB-C power brick if you want to charge at a regular speed.

You can buy a USB C Female to USB Male Adapter for just $2 or so. Since you are already overpaying for a Iphone X already Im sure a extra $2 wont hurt you

I did notice that the zooming does sucks.

Fair enough, I was just wondering who else shares the same disappointment.

I do have two USB A to lightning cable but both in bad shape haha.

The sensor difference ought to be worth the cost just on that basis alone.
AFAIK none of these are actual optical zoom lens designs, they are just using the multiple fixed focal length lens setup combined in software with digital zoom to mock up an actual zoom. It's really cheesy marketing to claim both the multiple lenses and 'optical zoom' as if they are two different features, when they are actually just talking about the same thing. Sensor shift OIS might be able to correct for movements in more axes than lens-based OIS e.g. handle rotation movements around the x- y- and z- axes in additional to translational movements in the x-y plane. Of course this depends on Apple's implementation.

IF you are serious then you sure in the heck not using a iphone for photos ;)

A photographer uses whatever tool he or she has at hand.

Couple of my favorite photos exist only because I had my phone in my pocket at just the right time.

Others exist because I set up my "serious camera" carefully and created the shot.

be cautious about sweeping generalizations.... :)

So 829 USD for unlocked mini with 13% tax, compared to 944 USD with 20% EU tax here. About $50 western tax added, not great, not terrible.

Remember tho that the 13% is one specific location and is a high water mark.

The median is likely more in the 7-8% range -- you can probably find something more specific if you spend a few minutes searching.

Your phone is always with you, the expensive camera gear not necessarily. I love photography but I take more pictures with my phone camera than any other. It's a game to me to really pay attention to my surroundings and find compositions and things of interest.
