Dell Latitude D620, 2.33 GHz Merom, 4 GiB RAM, Vista+XP+Linux, 2x320 GB hard drive (one in the bay, swappable with DVD or battery), WiFi+Bluetooth+3G (EV-DO) builtin,....

Cool!
Thanks AS. So you can switch between Vista, XP and Linux on the same laptop? That's pretty handy. A swappable HD would be nice too. By the way, I've heard you can put in 2x4GB RAM modules in the MBP and supposedly have 8GB RAM. The only issue is having 64-bit software that could actually use it. Ever heard of anything like this?

Hahaha! The MBA is already ridiculous enough as it is, no need to make it more so!

Multi-boot covers much more than two systems - I also have a Vista x64 and Linux x64 on one of the several swappable HDs.

Intel says 4 GiB max (and it's confirmed if you download the PDF specs for the northbridge).

Santa Rosa supports 36-bit addressing for the IO space, so that you can use the whole 4 GiB (vs. the 3.25 GiB that you get with the older chipsets).

Ah! Great, thanks AS! This is very helpful.

By the way Aiden, how did you find this part of the Intel site? How did you know it was Santa Rosa that was being covered in those chipsets?

I think it will be Apples announcement of Blu-ray drives. First starting with the Mac Pros; which would suck, as I just bought one of the early 2008 models.

Seriously though, working in IT for a company with people that are demanding the iPhone (but it's just not ready yet), I'm hoping for the SDK and Exchange support.

I don't know if this has been mentioned or not because there are too many pages to look through, but has anyone thought about the possibility that Apple may introduce a lineup of iPhone with colors? The colors are a big part of the iPod line and I am kind of surprised it hasn't been brought to iPhone yet. Just a possibility of something that could be announced at the event showing off the SDK. It would work as the "one more thing" portion of a presentation.

oh god though i think its possible, i reaaallyy hope u r wrong. what a waste of shelfspace. people really do identify themselves with the make, model, and color of their phone tho, so who knows

Since I hope to get a macbook with multi-touch trackpad....soon, I wish for the Apple Event to go something like this:

Jobs: "We have have some exciting news for you today..." (talks about the iphone/ipod touch upgrades to 16/32 GB...) "and today we want to present to you the SDK" (boom!)
Talk about the SDK for about 10-15 Minutes... after that maybe introduce some new games (also 3rd party) for ipod and Iphone to be downloaded through itunes.

After that he continues with a reference towards the upgraded Mac Pro and newly introduced graphic-card-compatibility towards the 2006-modell (please?)

And how best to use your mac pro than with the new cinema displays with integrated isight (boom!)
OR you can use it on your new mac mini(nano)! (boom!)

And finally "there is one more thing": new macbook pro with better graphic-card, new screen, multi-touch trackpad, and a new slim design (Boom!)
"oh, and before we forget...here's his little brother: the new macbook: new screen, multi-touch trackpad, slim new design in silver(see ipod classic for reference).

Within minutes of the presentation the stocks rise by 30%

This is how I want apple to start into 2008 ;-D

Jobs: "Oh and just one final thing. I'm giving everyone in this room a BJ before they leave. Then I'm going to cook you dinner and we'll watch a movie on Apple TV Take 2."

I think him saying that is just as likely as 90% of the things you just mentioned.

Starbucks closed 2-26-08 ... Coincidence?

http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2008/02/13/starbucks-nationwide-to-close-for-emergency-re-training-feb-26/

Perhaps a bit off topic at present, but in line with original line of article? Coincidence? You decide.

I read that Apple would be offering free WiFi access to all iPod touch and iPhone users at all Starbucks and Mac users with puchase cards.

Has Starbucks EVER closed all of its stores at the same time for "training" or "re-training"? And for just 3 hours. And on the same day as an Apple Special Event?

Maybe coincidence. Maybe not.

Is this event confirmed?

This thread starts off with a rumor of a potential event, based on the fact that an AV company may have been hired to perhaps do something related to the rumored event . . .

And we've got lots of speculation about what will happen at the event . . .

But has it been confirmed that there even IS an event? I mean, at some point, Apple has to invite someone. And I suspect that if you're trying to get press from NYT, WSJ, etc, that might not all be within a short drive of Cupertino, then it seems like those invitations ought to have surfaced by now.

Has anyone reported seeing an actual invitation to this event, or other confirmation that it's actually happening? (Sorry if I've missed it, I haven't read every post in the thread but I've at least been sampling it every day).

Numerous sources have cited the event already ... confirmed? ... Can't say for certain, but it appears something is happening that day.

Read the original post by arn, I believe he cited several sources chiming in on this "potential" event.

Update: Just checked original post and didn't see the source quote, but I believe arn cited several sources in one of these threads concerning the event. If I am mistaken ... forgive my error arn ... you do a great job.

In the past, Apple has sent invites out about a week before the event. As far as what is going to be announced, I think quite a bit, both iPhone SDK and revisions for the MBP line. I just don't think a lot of stuff was ready for Macworld, but who knows.....

Maybe or maybe not.. but thank god! For $3 bucks for a coffee drink, it would be nice if it was made decently!

Anyone received an invitation?

Any solid evidence about this rumored event?
The only evidence we have so far is that :apple: announced that the SDK will be available/released for the end of Feb, I don't remember the right words.

Anyway, something similar was done for Leopard, and te it was delayed to November 2007, right?

Who knows...

It is amazing how fast a rumor can go... It is not fact, but people are treating it like it was. But it is a fact that Jobs said that the iPhone/ iPod Touch SDK would be out by the end of feb., and the 26th is the last Tuesday that it would be possible. We will probably hear something from apple (like an invitation) either tomorrow or wed..

I for one really doubt that that is merely a coincidence. Why would they shut down just to learn to make better coffee? That would sure draw a lot of negative attention. No, if this event is about the SDK and new 3rd party apps (witch I believe it is), it would be the perfect time to show off that cool Starbucks ordering software mentioned earlier in this article: https://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2008/01/10/starbucks-iphone-ordering-concept-design/

If that's the case, I think it would be appropriate to shut down all Starbucks for a bit of training on the new system (plus free WiFi Q&A).

Mmmmm... iCoffee... iThirsty :p

Would the release of the SDK be a good time for Apple to release Itunes 8, or at least an update to itunes to support it?

So Starbucks swaps company to the one that's helping Apple do iPhone in America. I'd imagine it's training to staff up to date on this come release date.

There would be early confirmations of this at Starbucks, as there would be outages, engineers on site etc prior to this at each store in all likelihood.
