It won't happen on a Friday because then Apple doesn't get all the buzz and press coverage during the busy work week. That is the main reason why most announcements and product releases from Apple happen on Tuesday. On a Friday, there would be little press over the weekend and they would lose the viral marketing that works so well for them.

In addition, they generally like to "start the buzz" about 10-14 days before the event so people will speculate what it is all about and be more attentive. There is too little time left before the 15th to make this a reality. Sorry....

well too bad, cause it will happen.

Well here are my thoughts:

#1 Complete refresh to the Cinema Display line: LED-Backlit Screens with 1000:1 contrast ratio, much brighter, much higher response rate, more reasonable prices...a refresh to the lineup:

Drop the 20" - have a 23" a 27" and a 30" with the new LED-backlighting. Prices, $699, $899, and $1399

#2 New Penryn quad-core MacBook Pros with the new 45nm chipsets. Clock speeds 2.4GHz, 2.8GHz, and 3.2GHz - All LED backlit screens on the 15.4" and the 17" - possibly add a high end 19" MacBook Pro to the lineup, 1920x1200

#3 New Penryn-based iMac lineup refresh...same aluminum+black case. offer a 20" and 24", introduce a brand-new 30" iMac to the lineup. Clock speeds 2.4GHz, 2.8GHz, 3.2GHz (all quad-core)

Prices: $1199 (2.4GHz quadcore 20"), $1799 (2.4GHz quadcore 24"), $1999 (2.8GHz quadcore 24"), $2499 (3.2GHz quadcore 24"), $2899 (30" quadcore 3.2GHz)...other variations and prices possible.

#4 New Apeture release (as previously mentioned)

#5 Possibly refresh to Mac Mini sporting a 2.4GHz Core2 Duo, larger hard drive (200GB or 320GB), maybe featuring a better video card (dual-link) to drive a 30" display

#6 MacBook - update processors to 2.4 and 2.8GHz, same price, add an SSD option

...just a few ideas of things that would be great

Oh! I know! Flash-based Mac mini!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

Definetly about the iPhone sdk. I also think they will realese iPhone SW 1.1.4 so that it can run the new apps. Also in 1.1.4 we will have the ability to sync notes and record video. Apple will also release iWork mobile. For people who need to be able to edit documents. There is a reason the brought out bigger iPhones and iPod touches.

1. won't happen. no LED screen supports 20 inch and up
2. 19inch MBP won't happen.
3. iMac refresh won't happen yet.
4. possible (unlikely)
5. won't happen. Mini is going to fade away
6. won't happen for a while, period.

"Update: 9to5 is chiming in, citing February 28th(?) as the exact date."

(Hey arn it's actually Feb. 26th) :)

Owwwww!!!! If 9to5 say's Feb. 26th then it's defiantly Fed. 26th. (They have been on the spot with the ipod updates back in Sept.)

Definitely iPhone SDK, showcasing new apps and how the process will work. Will be distributed though iTunes Store, like the PodCasts are.

Maybe - Possibility to make $$ of the apps, tops of 2 - 10$ per. Some will be free, if the developer wants it to be.

Probably - The Release of TV Take 2
Probably - New MacBook Pros with MultiTouch and CPU Upgrades.
Probably - 10.5.2 Released

Possibly - New MacBooks with MultiTouch, also an Aluminum Casing for an extra ~$150. The black and while models will still be up for grabs.

Not Likely - all Pink iPod Lines.

Day Line Up
+Welcome
|--- iPhone has been selling wonderfully!

Wow, this seems so realistic because it seems so on the mark. You aren't some kind of secret insider eh? lol. Good post

I think Apple was being really smart about releasing the capacity increases for the iPhone this week, before snippets of this event got out.

What, with news of an 'event' and AT&T's announcement of 3G expansion, people would have gone nuts, absolutely nuts, thinking iPhone v2 with 3G would be coming out. Imagine the sky high expectations resulting in bad things for Apple's stock after the event just ends up revealing higher capacity and SDK.

This way, people keep their expectations in check. What are the chances Apple updates capacity and 3 weeks later releases a whole new version. Excellent move by Apple to manage this crazy circle of secrets and rumors they're in, me thinks.

My guess for this "event"

1. iPhone SDK + possibly some new apps from apple and other major apps makers.

2. Apple TV Take 2 is shipping / software complete. Probably dovetail this with 10.5.2 being announced. [Better connectivity etc.?]

3. Possibly Macbook Pro / iMac refreshes to Penryn.

On the outside of the box: Surprise announcement that Apple / Intel teamed up again and sped up Montevina production and Jobs springs new Macbook Pros / iMacs.

OMG, I would love for apple to get Montevina out ASAP. Here is when I want to see a new design.... and something fun and new to look at !!!

Anyone who doesn't think this is going to be a press event to announce the iPhone SDK is available to general developers, as well as show off what the "premiere developers" have been able to come up with since they received an early version is going to be sorely disappointed. It will be an event completely about the iPhone; although I do wonder why they didn't just keep the capacity upgrades quiet for another couple weeks and release them at the same time...

They will not announce/release other products at this event... and they will get a ton of free press coverage for just mentioning the iPhone. This is the reason the iPhone was barely mentioned in the keynote.

Sorry, only ever heard it called that by MS really, so I just assumed… (wrongly). Thanks for the info.

Does anyone buy these things (in significant numbers)? I don't see too many about.

Not really for general use, although some embedded or special purpose tasks are deployed on them.

Some of it is chicken and egg - the super small form factor low power Silverthorne will give a big boost to these devices - smaller systems with much better battery life.

What was done during the last event:
Totally New products:
Time Capsule
MacBook Air

Updgrades to existing and well known products:
iPhone 1.1.3
:apple:TV take 2
iTunes Rentals

What was done out of the events:
MacPros
16Gb iPhone, 32Gb iPod Touch

What may we see IMHO:

Improvements:

iPhone:
- video recording, now that they have more storage capabilities, via software update
- longer duration of battery energy
- Landscape mode adjustable via settings to use any app in landscape mode

.Mac:
I agree with the previous poster who mentions that they will add more services/features to the .mac service to improve the integration with all the :apple: products and to increase the customer base using it.

Airport Express
To have 802.11n

iSight
Increase the video resolution in all the mac lines, or just the new ones to be announced, and the gradually when updating all of them

Out of the event:
- MBPs next Tuesday (you already know when)
- ACD with iSight and HDMI
- Games for iPhone/Touch

Trying to think in totally new products:
????
- The handheld device maybe, but it doesn't makes too much sense tight now with the MacBook Air recently released and with the iPhone/Touch SDK coming soon
- Something never needed before and that will become a :apple: vital digital product for us after year 2010
- ????
- I run out of ideas...maybe too much time at macrumors
- Please add yours...

They announced the $499 iTouch 32GB in mid January? Is that something you overheard in a bathroom stall at the Apple HQ? So when did they announce the new MBP? Come on, do tell!!!

Duh......I don't know where my head was at. Umm...They announced the $499 iTouch THIS WEEK so I doubt they will reduce the price in less then a month....

Better? Duh.

Along with the SDK and maybe new video equipment, I'm with FCPNewbie and calling an introduction to the new version of the discontinued Shake, which is code named Phenomenon, and was said to be ready in '08. It should be just like Shake is, but running in realtime on the GPU, basically Motion on Hollywood Steroids...

And the MacBook Pros better be coming this next tuesday, if they don't, then I am expecting a big announcement about them at this event, more than a simple speed bump.

In any case, I think it seems most likely to be the SDK. Although I would be glad to see new MBPs. New ACDs would be nice and 10.5.2. The best however would be PowerBook G5!

First of all, MB should stay plastic. The white and black are sexy and should stay that way. Second, there is going to be SDK at this event. Come on apple even said that its the end of the month. Finally, I'm thinking the pros or the mini will come out. Personally I'm hoping for the pros. I can't wait to see the new ones.

They aren't going to stay plastic. Plastic isn't green.

Speaking of which are there anyone else out there that has grown gruesomel tired of anodised aluminum? I have been using powerbooks from the Pismo, and I bought the TiBooks (they were painted, mind you), went to the AlBooks and now the MBPs (with god awful metallic painted plastic keys – which, btw makes no sense. It's like plastic trying to look like wood. It looks cheap).
Anyone else tired of that look? Why not brushed raw aluminum? That at least looks "real".

This one (a MBP 2.33GHz) has the same finish as the cheapest booms and masts for an optimist dinghy.

I had a dream last night....

lots of time presenting SDK apps:

Games - for iphone/ipod touch - demos from EA etc.

apple:

-iWork apps for iphone/ipod touch.

-The mac mini to be replaced by.....the ipod touch/iphone.!!!
to explain: apple will release a dock that will let you use a usb keyboard/mouse and monitor/HDTV to enable you to use your ipod/iphone to browse web, email, open/edit/create office documents etc, play video, audio etc, just like you were using a desktop computer. iphone can connect direct to internet, ipod touch will need a wifi network of course.

Maybe: new cinema displays with the built in ipod/iphone dock
Maybe: 3rd party apps for ipod touch/iphone like high res camera/flash, gps units,

definitely not: no tablet until intels new ultra low voltage chips emerge later in the year.

I really hope this is new MBPs, the waiting is unbearable, it almost seems like Apple want to skip the update now and not update until March/June etc., which is crazy as most of us have (perhaps foolishly) been expecting updates for the past 2 Tuesdays...

I don't. The 26th!? Are you kidding me? Try this tuesday. If it seriously was the 26th, that would be a huge ball of suck.
