Because of this stupid "green" nonsense... It's stupid...

I do hope that you are being sarcastic.

Also, the aluminum casing used on the MBP is more recyclable and attractive.
The two main complaints are dents/scratches and reception. Apple can easily find ways to improve reception and/or strengthen the case.

They will find other ways to differentiate the lines.

To all those wanting an aluminium macbook:ITS CALLED A MACBOOK PRO! and if you cant pony up for a MBP then too bad...lol

Oh no. That's not the future. The consumer products are going to be aluminum and glass.

The Pro products (MacBook Pro and Mac Pro) are transitioning to an engineered paper case, constructed of at least 80% post consumer recycled paper with a naturally clear 100% cellulose protector for the screen.

Apple must appease Green Peace, and the new Pro products are going to be the most environmental friendly electronic products ever produced!

F*** the iPhone I want my MACBOOK PRO

You Apple Bee Otches.... !

I have had enough of that half witted candy bar smart phone wannabe taking up Apple's valuable resources.

Work on more professional stuff Apple!!

Calm down! There's no reason you can't get what you want without other people getting what they want. Personally, I have no interest in an updated MBP... but realise others do.

The difference between the MB and MBP is its casing?! Seriously... what's with all this bratty behaviour?

Blackbook Pro?

To all those wanting an aluminium macbook:ITS CALLED A MACBOOK PRO! and if you cant pony up for a MBP then too bad...lol

Maybe we'll get a Blackbook Pro... so we can all start to look like we're using Dell's again :)

Just kidding... hoping for new monitors!!! Please... I'm just about to pull the trigger on the 23" ACD and I can barely wait any longer.

I'm sticking to my initial prediction on the SDK, when they announced it wouldn't be available until February: the new SDK will be announced along side the next generation iPhone, and SDK apps will only work with the new phone.

I'm guessing the new phone is either dual-core allowing user apps to run completely independently of the main system, or the system has been re-architected severely enough to make Apple feel safe having strange code running lose.

Somebody mentioned a reiteration of the Apple TV releases, which will probably be dovetailed into this as well.

Why do people have their toes curled so tight over new MacBook Pros? Is it just me, or are we not expecting more than like a 6% boost similar to what we saw in the Mac Pros? Maybe a $7k quad core? Hardly seems worth all the angst. We're on the Intel train now-- every incremental step is carefully controlled to result in infinitesimal performance improvements.

NAB Replacement

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say this thing has something to do with them pulling out of NAB.
Maybe they're dropping new monitors that do up to 4K resolution... and introducing the much rumored Shake successor that is capable of handling 4K resolutions natively.
And while I'm dreaming big, also announce that ProRes will now do up to 4K and one more thing... you can run this 4K ProRes on your new... Macbook Pro.

Thank you, and goodnight.

New iPhone to run SDK apps? No way. Obviously u are entitled to your opinion but that is asanine [sic].
I'll presume that's in response to me... Can you think of another reason why they're taking 6 months to get an SDK out the door when they clearly have dev tools already available, and why the SDK release is timed so closely to when we'd expect the 2nd gen iPhone?

The event will begin sometime on the day of February the 15th on a Friday. Set your clocks, people. It's coming. :D

Don't doubt me on this one. Just wait till the other sites confirm this.
:)

Event in Feb.

So no MBP until the 27th
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

-:apple:

Don't hold your breath.

I don't anticipate new MBPs soon. I got myself a refurbished MBP in Dec. VERY happy with that. And I won't be too upset when the Penryn MBP comes.
(I'm actually living in the real world)

I still think there is a reason that Apple gave a low guidance for this quarter -
because product releases won't come until NEXT quarter.

Back on topic - this is obviously an event for the SDK - since Apple already said it would happen in Feb.

Hadn't thought of that... Think they'll show the next iPhone but not ship it for a few months again? That would stop iPhone sales dead, and probably bring iPod Touch to a trickle.

That seems like an impossibility. Why would they announce $499 mid Jan and drop by $100 at end of February?

They announced the $499 iTouch 32GB in mid January? Is that something you overheard in a bathroom stall at the Apple HQ? So when did they announce the new MBP? Come on, do tell!!!

Gimme updated iMacs with LED backlighting, and Penryn chips (yay green :D)!

My 'ol G4 is one foot in the grave running off an external drive, wahhh

While my G4 is in a bit better shape from the sound of it, I am in the same boat.

5-year old G4 machine, waiting for a iMac refresh so I can pick one up day one. I was waiting for Penryn but I hadn't even thought about LED backlighting.

My guess..

Updated macbooks and macbook pros with multi-touch trackpad. Backlit macbook keys. The big product of the show will be an updated mac mini. It will be the size of the mighty mouse, it will cost $500 (you heard it here first!)

Nope, Not The 15th... Sorry

It won't happen on a Friday because then Apple doesn't get all the buzz and press coverage during the busy work week. That is the main reason why most announcements and product releases from Apple happen on Tuesday. On a Friday, there would be little press over the weekend and they would lose the viral marketing that works so well for them.

In addition, they generally like to "start the buzz" about 10-14 days before the event so people will speculate what it is all about and be more attentive. There is too little time left before the 15th to make this a reality. Sorry....
