Literally all I would need is that Base model Mac Studio with a terabyte of storage. If I even bother with a terabyte of storage.

Yep the base price for the max is ok but doubling cost for each iterative step of the cpu line is way too much.
To be fair, you get double the CPU performance, double the GPU performance, double the RAM, double the storage, and 50% more ThunderBolt 4 ports. In the past, to get a Mac that has double the performance you would have to go up to a $50K Mac Pro.

I swear some people will never be happy. We've got a computer here that basically went from $50K down to $4K and people be complaining...

I knew there would be no M2, people kept calling me an idiot.... but how do you improve on the M1 without making the M1 Max look less appealing?

They will eventually need to have the M2, right?

Perhaps they should have named the Apple silicon like this:

M1
M1 Pro Max
M1 Pro Ultra

M2
M2 Pro Max
M2 Pro Ultra

This is therefore the high end Mac Mini (RIP) and iMac 27-inch (RIP) solution. Reminds me of the earlier days of the Mac where it was an all-in-one and then separate box with display. Back and forth it would go as things changed.

I just did not see this coming!

At the end they mention only the Mac Pro is left to transition...RIP 27" iMac

Time to sell my Apple stock this was horrible they're trying to create value in something that doesn't have that much value is so sad I'd rather have a 27 inch iMac upgrade then this horrible monitor and box thing again it's ridiculous. I've just found another way to sucker people into spending another fortune no thank you.
I get your point, but wouldn't that motivate you to buy more (stock) ?

So the Mac Studio can be obtained for less than an iPhone 13 Pro Max, which comes with a display. I'm in, still.

Nevermind, see the screenshot from the macrumors bloggers as M1 Max 32 GB/500GB SSD for $1999, which is all I need a year or so from now. My 2018 32 GB/1TB SSD is still rocking it.

It does actually because you also need double the RAM and I bet they bump up the storage a fair bit too for that price.
It's faster than the current Mac Pro, so, I guess that's why the price is so high, other than that, it's too much, $2999 would be better.
We expected to get lower prices for Apple silicon, I think that was a silly thing to expect, it's Apple, they went to AS for a single reason...more cash for them.

Totally agree the pricing is a massive ripoff even by Apple standards. A high end 27" LG is half this price.

I’m still trying to understand if I missed something why this display is a good value at $1600. Maybe I will have to wait for some reviews before deciding if i should buy it, considering it is only a 27” display.

So what do we think, a quad chip design for the new Mac Pro? One thing is for sure an Apple Silicon Mac Pro will be off the scale with its performance.

So if the studio is for videographers, photographers, musicians, developers, etc who is the MacPro going to be for?

I'm cackling because I've just now witnessed the iMac 27" and the iMac Pro get end-of-lifed in one fell swoop!

Want that functionality now? Buy a Mac Studio (Max or Ultra) with a Studio Display!

$3,598 for the base Studio & display, $5,598 for the Ultra Studio & display.

Perhaps one last Intel Mac Pro, then the future will be Apple Silicon with the Ultra and whatever they call the Jade-4-C (Double Ultra? Heh.) when a M3-or-so version can roll out in 2024 or 2025.

It makes absolute business sense. Genius. Evil (not entirely serious) genius...but genius.
