27 inch iMac was where it was at going to to be sad if it's gone. I guess you can always just buy a cheaper monitor and pair it with an apple studio. Put a $50 dollar separate webcam and use separate speakers and you save a lot of money but you trade off the apple chic of it all being nice and clean. Still having the cheapest apple monitor cost $1,500 sucks. (not as bad as it costing 8K I guess...). But like I thought $700 and $800 was a lot back in the day. Also for a monitor to cost that much, and bother to put a chip in it and doesn't include Face ID is pretty annoying.

And what about the Mac studio is modular? The thunderbolt ecosystem is more expensive and has less options than PCI slots.

Sure the performance may be great, but at the end of the day you are marketing a "studio quality" (whatever that means) larger Mac Mini for $6200 (properly config'd) where you can't upgrade anything, nor add additional hard drives. The cost is ridiculous, and the idea that "pros" want to put their computer on their desktop is just silly.

And before we continue, pros that need exceptional displays will most likely choose BenQ, not the overpriced Apple display that has awesome speakers no pro cares about. Just one example is, if you're an audio pro, I assure you that you will not be using the display's speakers.

Pros don't care about portability. If we need to go somewhere with a computer, we buy a laptop. What we do need is the ability to add things like:

- Recording Studio (PCIe card slots for Avid HDX)
- 3D Rendering (PCIe card slots for multiple GPUs - Even when the M1 Ultra has seemingly awesome GPU performance, you often need more)
- SATA (or even better SAS) drive bays for internal storage (I have 3 10TB drives, with 2 2TB SSD drives in my Mac Pro 2010 desktop right now)

Apple really needs to understand that if pros are going to spend that kind of money, they don't want everything soldered to the board, and they need to be able to add the items they require without resorting to buying external Thunderbolt chassis.

Once again, this is Tim's Apple and it is very disappointing. While I'm excited for the Mac Pro announcement (sometime in the future apparently), I'm not holding my breath for any kind of realistic price point to purchase one.
I mean, pros have linux servers and competitively priced hardware.

M1 Pro in the Studio with 32GB/500GB SSD for $1500 would have been nice. I really don't need the extra CPU power. With military discount, cheapest Studio is $1800. There is that.

I think the base Studio starts at $1999 USD.
Indeed. Here in the US:

Base is 1999 USD. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any customization builds that reduce that price further.

Time to sell my Apple stock this was horrible they're trying to create value in something that doesn't have that much value is so sad I'd rather have a 27 inch iMac upgrade then this horrible monitor and box thing again it's ridiculous. I've just found another way to sucker people into spending another fortune no thank you.
You understand that you are arguing this from both sides. Your last sentence implies Apple will 'sucker' people into 'spending another fortune' (which will be a good thing for us Apple shareholders) but in your first sentence you imply that you will sell your Apple stock.

Which of those statements is false? Because they both can't be true. Check your premises.

I’ve been holding out for a new more powerful mini with more ram but at same or cheaper price.
I’m not in the market for a studio despite, looks like I’m still awaiting that Mac mini update.

I also sensed a ratner moment when they told us about the m1’s secret interconnection.

it’s not possible for mere mortals to connect 2 m1’s, I’d be miffed if I bought the high end unit and now find there’s an even higher end unit.

im finding the whole drip feed of new systems really annoying. Mercedes do 7 year cycles of their cars which gives consumers some certainty about what they are buying and when the new shiny is coming out.

if I new the next mini will be 4 years away I’d have bought already.
we kind of already know when other models will get refreshed just not the mini.
Computers aren’t cars. You’re going to be miffed every year if you buy any PC. I have an 11th gen Intel gaming PC and guess what 12th gen Intel is out now. I could be miffed but why? It’s still works and I can still play games on it. Sure there’s a faster version. Next year there’s going to be a 4090 GPU out that just stomps the performance of my GPU but guess what I could still game on my PC next year. That’s just how things work with computers.

I think until the M2 is released, this is it as far as a mac mini upgrade. (Think of it as a fat mac mini?)

You do realize a TV and a monitor are two different devices right? What’s the PPI of your Samsung TV? That’s something you should look up

The PPI is good enough, you see no pixels looking at 4K movies from the couch. So it is “retina” too.

No, I think that it is.

For those users, I believe Apple is encouraging a Max Studio + Studio Display combo. That's your new 27" iMac.

At the moment, it is a replacement for both, and it sounds very much like have no intention of making a 27" iMac.

Maybe. In the PC world, all-in-ones do tend to be entry level only. I guess that's what Apple is doing.

They said something like "We're not done yet. There's one more M1 item to come, and that's the Mac Pro." So that means NO 27" iMac???? ????
