IMO the Studio Display was the main attraction, besides the Mac Studio. But, will it be able to maintain a 16" MacBook Pro with M1 Max continuously powered? It only outputs 96W through its USB-C Port.

Regarding the Mac Studio:
M1 Max version: $1999 barely sounds like a decent price (keep in mind it comes with no Display).
M1 Ultra version: $3999 is way too overpriced!
I hate the price, but the M1 ultra with the studio display appers to take the place of the discontinued 27" iMac pro slot (i.e. only businesses who have money to spare can probably afford it.....)

Mac Studio (M1 Max version): Not so bad a price (hardly cheap, but then Apple thinks RAM costs $200 per 8G).

Studio display: forget it. Only $200 less than a 5k iMac with what sounds like the same display. Not supporting that sort of gouging.
what 5k imac? it was removed

$1599 for that display.
Hmmmm... Worth it?
You always have discounts, that's list.

The EDU is $1799 for Studio M1 Max base model, and $3599 for M1 Ultra base model.
The standard glass is $1499 and non- glass is $1799 (EDU prices)
These are for qualified EDU buyers, but eventually the stores will offer the same discounts.

That's exactly how I understand it. The studio mac is the upgraded mac mini (replaces the last mac mini intel models), paired with the separate studio display it ends the intel 27" iMac as well. That last statement about one more to go is meant to answer this exact question.
That's how I took it as well... which sucks, because I was really hoping for a more reasonably-priced replacement for the 27", not one pushing $4k once you get a slightly larger internal drive and buy the keyboard and trackpad that the Mac Studio doesn't come with (it comes with just.... a power cord...). Guess a higher-end 24" is going to have to do it for me.

Apple's Netherlands shop just updated. The price of the minitor is starting at €1779, that's crazy.

I was really interested in one, but this is too much. My thunderbolt display was €1100. I get these are betters specs, obviously, but that is the nature of tech. 10 years later, of course you're gonna jump from 2,5k to 5K with more colors, a better webcam etc. But what they didnt jump in is the size nor the refresh rate. That would have been nice, especially if I'd pair with it my 16" MBP M1 Max at this price.

But at least we get the HomePod Mini in The Netherlands, finally!

Company I work for have been trying for years for a good excuse to make our 21 Mac users (27" iMacs) have to use Windows machines for adobe and MS apps. This is it right here cuz they're not going to stump up £1999+£1499 per seat when they used to pay around £1800 per seat for the 27". A rse holes.

Nothing I want from this event; the next iMac Pro should have 120hz im so annoyed the new display isn’t 120hz now my MacBook is still the best display how can I use a display that’s worse than my MacBook screen

Same. Mac desktops in general just underwhelm me. No backlit keyboard, no ProMotion, no mini-LED (for a long time no TouchID)...to me the MBP has the best features. It'll probably be a while before the desktops catch up.

M1 Ultra + Mac Studio look amazing. That said... given the pricing I'm pretty happy with my 14" M1 Max...

curious how many thunderbolt busses share all those TB4 ports. The front ports are USB-C (10Gbp/s) on the Max and TB4 (40Gp/s) on the Ultra.

Why do people use gaming PCs as some sort of benchmark. A PC has more uses than gaming and Apple has never been seriously into the gaming market. If you want a gaming PC buy a Windows PC. This is what I did. If you try to make a gaming PC out of a Mac you’re going to be disappointed
Cause gaming is the only argument left for the Intel/Windows fanboys…

If it had ProMotion and mini-LED and 1600 nits brightness it would probably cost $5000 at least. The XDR monitor costs that and it doesn't even have speakers or a camera (and has fewer mini LED dimming zones than the MBP).

The MBP still has the best Mac display.

My Samsung 4K TV goes over 2000 nits, has much larger screen, has speaker and also has a computer build in (like iOS but then made by Samsung), and it didn’t cost over $5000.

Disappointed with the event, but happy there is nothing I vaguely want to buy.

The monitor appears to contain an at least 8-year-old panel for $1,600. No thanks.

Studio is overkill and overpriced for most people. An M1 Pro version for closer to $1,000 would have been great.

An M1 in an iPad Air is a bit of a head scratcher. Poor product differentiation with that.

Shame the iPhone SE didn't get some design/camera love, but it's nice people get the faster chip.
