If there was a redesign, I would have sold my 2020 13inch and grabbed one. I have 16gh ram for VM. Do I still need 16?!

Wow. Let's see if it lives up to the hype. The numbers are very impressive indeed. And Apple lost the chance to make Macs cheaper, which, although clearly not its intention, will prevent Macs from getting a more significant market share from PCs.

I really dont like Big Sur so far... am I alone?

the new icons still haven’t settled well with me, I do like the new CC but it just looks like an interface facelift and little else, anemic in tangible features.
The windowed iOS apps also look clunky - it's the sort of execution Apple fans would mock if Microsoft did the same thing.

cant believe they didn't have new exterior designs to showcase along with the debut. also surprised photoshop isn't even ready. atleast they support wifi 6. very happy with my iMac 2020 purchase for the time being.

Those of you complaining about the RAM. Doesn't ARM based use RAM different than AMD or Intel system would? IDK what I'm talking btw, just an observation. But just a thought.

Hmmm now that I saw base Mini is 4GB, might depend on what upgrades cost. What is a good amount on a Mac for just moderate stuff maybe some 3d games if they even have them. And also have to check base SSD and costs of upgrades there
I have 64GB in my 2018 Mac Mini, price on ram for it is now at its lowest I've seen it:

I'm a developer. And I need a lot more RAM to run multiple VM's. Oh wait, I won't be able to do that either.
Yup,

That tag at the end from the old commercial was a big middle finger to Mac users who need to run some windows workloads. Not sure yet if it' the end of the 'one machine' era, or the end of the mac era.

The new Mx chips look damn sweet, but without a windows option, it's a non starter anytime soon.

So this thing has a better GPU than the 5500M in the 16" MBP even?
The fact they purposefully benchmarked the M1's iGPU against Intel's old (pre Xe) iGPUs should tell you they're no where close to facing off against AMD dGPUs let alone Nvidia's on the PC side

I'm honestly quite impressed, Apple really has become one of the worlds top chip makers.

This move makes a lot of sense. I wonder if the world will move completely away from x86 to ARM eventually.

Why are people so excited about no fan? Do they like thermal throttling?
You are assuming that there is a lot of performance in these chips. They were most concerned with performance per watt, not performance.

8 cores, 4 are high performance, 4 are "high efficiency" and there is no additional threads, so, 8 cores/8 threads.

There is a reason they didn't show numbers in context.

Missed opportunity to introduce new hardware. Tim Cook at his best here showing his strong skill to stretch out manufacturing lines of existing hardware. Of course that isn’t bad for the bottom line but still a missed opportunity nonetheless.

They didn’t say that, they were likely comparing it with the integrated GPU which wasn’t that strong anyway, would be interesting to compare it to Tigerlake.

I think they really wanted Apple Silicon machines by the end of the year and this was what they could do in the time frame. Next year should be more interesting. A redesigned iMac with Apple Silicon might be my next purchase.
And by that time there will be enough reviews and feedback on the M1 chip as well.
