I agree with the comments that apple's line up for the average consumer desktop based machine ( i.e. not a laptop ) is looking very stale these days and I think they will continue to look even more stale if all thats offered is just a speed bump.

the desktop bound PC of these days has moved into a different lane ( quad core or i7 ) and yes, a C2Duo machine is decent enough in its own right, its very quickly going to be dated.

If all thats given is a speed bump, then assuming that spec would last for 6 to 8 months, then in 6 to 8 months, they are going to well behind the pace to other things out in the market in their price bracket.

Its time to jump back to the front line with the Mac desktop based systems or they may likely lose a lot of customers.

I don't need a new desktop but I like to be tempted. Not Bern tempted in quote a while.

Since I already bought a new iMac, I hope they talk about a new iPhone revision (need to buy a new one in June) and hopefully something more with the AppleTV as I'd like to pickup another one of these as well.

I'll wait to see if they put Blu-Ray in these new comps (or even in the unibodies) before I bite on a new Mac...

omg just wait..., don't you have anything better to do than waiting for the next mac x ? The same comments in nearly every "news"...

Will you buy without? Because they won't have it.

Ah blue Ray, I definitely expect to see two BTO in a MP

Grins... Ah, that got your blood boiling for a moment Tallest J/K :D:p

I will quote you if they do include BR though ;)

My Apple Guide mentioned there might be a "pleasant surprise" at the event. I doubt it's Snow Leopard given it's state, and the fact that 10.5.7 is already adding the required support for Nehalem.

I'm betting the surprise is a redesigned AppleTV. It hasn't seem a hardware refresh in 2 years and is still using a Dothan core. It'll probably be bumped to an Atom and a 9400M. I'm sure nVidia will be ecstatic to get an Ion design win. Apple will probably be adding additonal functionality too, maybe PVR capability, maybe ability to display other documents and applications or games. Might also be coupled with new Time Capsules for expanded media server capability.

Or it could just be Blu-ray.

Please Mr Apple sir, I would like a brand spanking new Mac Mini this Tuesday please .... :p

I've been waiting to buy a new iMac since Novemeber. Maybe this is finally the month! My 8 year old PC is still "operational" but jeez I need to upgrade.

Also, I'm really hoping for a redesign of the iMac, although I'll temper those expectations.

Maybe will be release on 3th or 10th March but shipping late on March like MBP..

Of the releases, the iMac and Mac mini are expected to be smaller bumps that may not warrant a full media event.
Quad-core (desktop CPU) iMac (if that happens) would be on the big side of a smaller bump.

Also note that one of the rumors say there will be "a pleasant surprise" too.

If they go for a regular speed bump, then we'll probably see 133/267 MHz speed bumps (and possibly a FSB bump) to give a top speed of 3.2/3.33 GHz. Not looking good when quad-cores are left and right.

the desktop bound PC of these days has moved into a different lane ( quad core or i7 ) and yes, a C2Duo machine is decent enough in its own right, its very quickly going to be dated.
Not to mention that even the low-power (more expensive than regular) desktop quad-cores are of similar price to mobile dual-cores of similar GHz.

The least Apple could do is slightly improve the cooling of the 24" to hold a CPU 10 W hotter (65 W desktop vs. 55 W mobile). That would vastly improve the performance of those iMacs.

If all thats given is a speed bump, then assuming that spec would last for 6 to 8 months, then in 6 to 8 months, they are going to well behind the pace to other things out in the market in their price bracket.
If dual-core this update, I wouldn't bet on another update until Arrandale early next year. There are mobile quad-cores (low GHz, high $) right now, so if they don't go quad with this update then that would tell us that they don't want to have lower-clocked quads in with higher-clocked duals. So there's not much chance they'd go quad the next update. Quad-core would likely come to the iMac when Intel mobile CPUs almost all go quad-core.

Maybe will be release on 3th or 10th March but shipping late on March like MBP..
The Mac Pro is likely to have a later release date, since Gainestown won't be out on the 24th.

I didnt mention Mac Pro I mentioned Mac Book Pro.. if you remember they released MBP on 1th January but they shipped mid February. Why iMac should be like this? Maybe will be release tomorrow but shipping mid April.

Tax return check is in the bank account waiting for an updated iMac line... come on apple, big money, no wammies.
