Any chance we could get a Snow Leopard release date with this? Is the current guess still Summer '09 for Snow Leopard?

It is easy to stagger the updates

The iMac can get a silent update since it will just be getting updated specs that have already been mentioned (i.e. mini DisplayPort, nVIDIA graphics, FireWire 400 dropped).

The Mac mini and Cinema Displays (20" and 24") can get updated together since the Mac mini will need a display to be usable.

The Mac Pro and 30+" Cinema Display will get a media event. Not only will Apple want to show off their high-end system but they might also want to show Final Cut Studio 3 running on it. Not that I am claiming FCS3 is ready and Apple is waiting for updated hardware to make a double sale.

Depending on the chips supply the Xserve will either get updated with the Mac Pro or get a silent update a few weeks later after the initial rush for the new Mac Pro has died down.

Heres some food for thought

I sold my 2.4 24" iMac to buy the new model yet to be released I have observed the rumors and speculation over the last couple of months during this process I have even considered the thought of a MBP although the thought of Quad Core has kept me waiting. So I have travelled from store to store on the Gold Coast to check out the MBP and noticed yesterday there are no iMACS left in stock at Domayne an appliance/electrical store in Bundall QLD they told me they are waiting on fresh stock. The salesman seemed to know more than he was telling me. It seemed he wanted to tell me more. He shrugged and said I couldn't tell you if it is a new model even if I did know Blah Blah blah. So I move on to the next store on-line JB-HiFI or www.jbhifi.com.au and noticed that they are releasing an ad soon for there Mac stock. This page has been blank for quite some time in regards to price point and stock availability. It just says catalogue coming soon. I have a feeling we will see the new iMac this week if we don't I am going to purchase an MBP, I need to get back to work and be productive and the MBP will still do the job just fine.

Bout freekin time something desktop-y was updated, I want me a shiney new mac Pro, saving for it is still going slower than expected though. Darned downturn/recession.

Still waiting for those charitible contributions to come in tho. (LOL):D

I didnt mention Mac Pro I mentioned Mac Book Pro.. if you remember they released MBP on 1th January but they shipped mid February. Why iMac should be like this? Maybe will be release tomorrow but shipping mid April.
…yeah. I was saying the Mac Pro is the most likely Mac to have delayed shipping.

If Apple wants to keep the 80 W CPU TDP frame for the Xserve, then the top Gainestown speed that can be used is 2.53 GHz. GHz-wise, that's much lower than the current 3.0 GHz, even though overall performance may still increase. Interesting how the Xserve is not mentioned in the rumors. Maybe Apple is waiting for faster 80 W Gainestowns.

Here we go again
Were you the guy who was saying no update until 2H 2009? Or was it 2010?

I'm betting the surprise is a redesigned AppleTV. It hasn't seem a hardware refresh in 2 years and is still using a Dothan core. It'll probably be bumped to an Atom and a 9400M. I'm sure nVidia will be ecstatic to get an Ion design win. Apple will probably be adding additonal functionality too, maybe PVR capability, maybe ability to display other documents and applications or games. Might also be coupled with new Time Capsules for expanded media server capability.

Keep it under $399 and give me a nice PVR (requires a tuner, of course) and I'm already sold. The other stuff sounds nice, too.

Well if it's tomorrow, we won't have to wait much :p
Otherwise, I guess I'll have my iMac by the beginning of April.
I hope to see Quad Cores in the iMac apart form the updated GPU. If not, at least slightly faster Core 2 Duo, something like 3.33 GHz.

I'm confident in my post.

Namely because they'll either have to use 10.5.6 or 10.5.7, and neither of them have Blu-ray support.
That doesn't have to be true. I'm pretty sure most new models on launch use custom builds of OS X before being synced back together on the next update. Some features are also model limited like h.264 hardware acceleration in the Unibodies for the 9400M and 9600M even though they are the exact same architecture as the 8600M GT and 8800 series.

I think the bigger limiter for Blu-Ray on Mac is that iLife has just been updated. If Blu-Ray came to Mac you'd expect a new iDVD or IBurn or whatever to make use of it, but I don't think it's likely that Apple would refresh iLife so quickly. Although I guess Apple could claim Blu-Ray is a professional feature for now, and just release a new Final Cut Studio for it, and add consumer support with the next iLife.

Logic 9

I know for sure that they are planning to introduce a very significant update of Logic in March, so I believe they will use this media event to showcase Logic 9.

From what I have heard, Apple are have put a lot of work into the new Logic 9, as Logic 8 was a merely a face-lift from the previous version -- Logic 9 will represent the next generation digital workstation.

Now that Apogee and Apple are tied into long-term contracts and with the recent news of Apogee dropping windows support, Logic 9 will be a serious challenger to Pro Tools.

There won't be an iPhone event until June. Though an iPhone OS update that, y'know, actually updated would be nice.

Wasn't there some whisper about an update to iPhone's processor? If that's the case, they could do a size bump soon (eg just bumping to 32g), followed by a processor/larger update several months from now. Any rumors pointing to June for an update or is that just because of the historical precedence?

Well, how many posts have already remarked that its perhaps too little too late?

I posted recently citing my dismay that Apple could ignore its fan base of long-time existing desktop users by not offering more recent and cost effective updates …

Point to the post is, Apple have lost my money due to their delays and lost a fan … how many more has this affected! Other manufacturers (I'm thinking Hackintosh) … now is the time to strike!</snip>
I agree, it really sucks when I can build a PC that's just as quiet as a mini, has the specs of a 2gen old MBP, and pay less then $500 for it... There's something wrong there.

Keep it under $399 and give me a nice PVR (requires a tuner, of course) and I'm already sold. The other stuff sounds nice, too.

I'm in the market for a blu-ray player. If Apple could release an Apple TV with a blu-ray drive, I'd snap that baby up.

I already got needlessly excited about new desktops, and then the possibility of a new USEFUL version of AppleTV - and now this? I can't afford for all of these rumors to be true...

Since the iMac refresh will not be earth shattering, an Apple Event would not make much sense. But, throw in a new Mac Mini, a refreshed Mac Pro and OSX 10.6, that would most definitely be worth an Event.

But that will have to wait until June. I can see it now. Ive & Schiller will host the event. After all products have been displayed, Ive will say, "Just one more thing". There is a drum roll as a curtain rises. To roaring applause stands a healthy looking Steve Jobs holding the next generation iPhone.

Why would Apple hold the event the month BEFORE they release the desktops? They would release them that day if not the next.

agreed, this isn't a predetermined date like Macworld & WWDC. The only time they announce products before releasing them is when their forced to. (Hence why no more MacWorld, and good riddance).

?????

Their last MacWorld featured 2 iLife improvements and a 17" MacBook Pro that caught up with current cheaper Macs.

Explain to me how THAT is worthy of a event?

Ah blue Ray, I definitely expect to see two BTO in a MP

Grins... Ah, that got your blood boiling for a moment Tallest J/K :D:p

I will quote you if they do include BR though ;)

If apple does not start doing blu-ray..... we gotta start up getting loud and let them know we are mad as hell

Of course.

It seems like when I buy an Apple product, they decide to go change it the next month.

Did you see Apple pick up to iLife Up-to-Date logo to all products because they add to all new products.

I think iMacs coming...

ohh...well....mac pro:(:(:(...nevermind

Where is my iPhone 3.0....should be this year<------thats I call news:D:D:D

I wonder if this means new Macbook Airs??

The wife and I were at bestbuy this weekend purchasing a new macbook and the 2 store managers came over and were talking about how to arrange the table that the imac and notebooks sit on. The store currently has 1 white macbook, 1 aluminum macbook, 1 macbook air, and 15inch MBP on one side and the 17inch MBP on the side with the iMac's. The main manager told the other guy that they need to fit 6 laptops on the one side with a majority of the laptops bc they have to make room for the new Macbook airs that are coming in??

I know there is rumor of the 15inch MBA, so not sure if that's what they were talking about.

THAT was not worthy of an Event. But, tell me how Apple could have pulled out of MacWorld. It was bad enough that Jobs pulled out.

I still say the entire desktop line will be updated at the media event, much like the notebook event last year.

As for this Tuesday, shouldn't the 32gb chips be out for the iPhone and Touch to incorporate. They were updated Feb last year, so the spec bump seems plausible.

that would be cool. considering that all 10 million+ songs on itunes are losing there drm and doubling there bit rate this month, it would seem responsible to double the storage in the ipods and iphones at the same time.
