Dropped prices on 8 Cores

So let's say Apple releases brand new Mac Pros on the 24th. What is the usual timeline where they lower the prices and blow out the most recent group of Mac Pros? Prior to the 24th or after? I'd like a really good price on an 8 core 2.8.

It would be immediately. Any remaining new stock goes into the Clearance section of the Online Store (at about the current refurb prices), and refurbs get even bigger deductions.

i dont know how reliable the website (hardmac.com) i looked at was but it seems certain that imac and mac mini will be updated tomorrow, and on the 24th it will release something totally new

Quick, go to my website xxxxx.com for all the details (and then bookmark it)!

nah sorry i didnt mean it at all like that i really dont know how reliable the source is, its just what they said

The iMac can get a silent update since it will just be getting updated specs that have already been mentioned (i.e. mini DisplayPort, nVIDIA graphics, FireWire 400 dropped).

It's far from a foregone conclusion that the iMac will get a silent update or a slight refresh, etc. Recently, Apple isn't content to simply do minor spec bumps on its hardware products... but at least one major, hip feature that it can use to keep building its cache as the most innovative tech company in the world. Even the 17" MBP at MacWorld, which was mostly spec bumps and updating the look to be consistent with its unibody laptop brethren, got a new feature in the form of an 8-hour, 1000-charge battery.

I for one would be shocked if Apple is holding a desktop event but then only revealed minor spec bumps for its best-selling desktop computer. Marketing-wise, that wouldn't make any sense. Events are for showcasing.

The look of the iMac likely won't change, but feature-wise... there must be something really cool that Apple will debut. That's my prediction.

I wonder if there will be any entertainment or will it just be announcements

Would love to see a new Mac Pro all supped up... have been waiting on this for a while now. Im ready.

Same here. Been hanging out for a new pro mac for too long.

Now if they can just keep the price down and not go all crazy on us like with the macbook pro's.

I dunno about a netbook they seemed pretty sceptical in the last keynote about one. Im thinking maybe a new phone either hardware or firmware update. Either one would encourage me to hold out till the 24th as im due an upgrade as of the 12th.

Yeah I suppose so, but they have pretty much just updated the entire line. So the only thing i can really think of is an iphone update and there has been talk of iphone updates. I would of thought we would of heard some more hype if a netbook was in production.

If the March 24th date holds true for an announcement it has to be:

1. Snow Leopard

OR

2. A netbook type device. (Netbook could mean lots of things to Apple, first of which does NOT mean cheap. I would get a $799-999 device that is the size of a PC Netbook (which run $299-399) but with higher performance, or perhaps a $499-699 device which looks like a large iPhone running that OS or something.)

I suspect it is Snow Leopard. I doubt it is a netbook because while I am SURE SUCH A PRODUCT IS COMING NO MATTER WHAT TIM COOK / STEVE JOBS SAY it appears they are behind the curve on the matter and trying to catch up with an innovative (READ: still expensive) solution before joining that fray. I also doubt it is an iPhone refresh as I suspect OS 3.0 and iPhone 3.0 are going to be unveiled at WWDC in June for a typical late Summer launch.

Snow Leopard is due and I bet that is announcement.

With the desktop updates today, I believe the 24th event will be for ipod updates. Snow Leopard is doubtful. Netbook is unlikely.

Or maybe, they are going to release the proper iMac's, a new line of them with quad core processors and awesome graphics cards. But, that would make no sense unfortunately.

I created an account so I could speculate on this topic while I'm bored at my work study job at school.

I am hoping for a Snow Leopard preview with the new 'Marble' GUI, possibly announcing it will be going into some final stages with a release date shown to be in June. Matching the original statement of it being release in "about one year" from the time of the announcement. This may be unlikely but hey why not hope for something awesome like this.

I pretty much just want an iphone update cause, as im eligible for an upgrade from the 12th, I was wandering whether it was worth getting the 3g or sticking it out till june, does anyone have any guesses on what the new features will be?
