My mid 2012 MacBook Air has been saying "Service Battery" for the past few months. Shows just 306 cycles. Still runs for most of the day on the battery, so I've been ignoring it. Hoping to wait for a new Pro next fall.
I wonder if I'd be able to slip my mid-2014 model in thereI've been bad with the battery, it's already well over 1000 cycles.
My computer qualifies!
But CoconutBattery reads the capacity fluctuating between 86 and 87 percent
I guess that doesn't mean replacing is needed; I'm at 263 cycles. Think I can still get a pass?
8460 mAh capacity, 7425 capacity left
Hah I was just about to type the URL when I read your comment. How many of ya'll are now quickly scouring eBay???
My friend has a 13" from those years and is itching to replace, anybody here had any luck with the 13" getting replaced with a newer model?
Is this Retina models only? I have a 2012 Classic but it still works like a champ. Guess I don't need it replaced anyways but still curious

correct. your 2012 doesn't use the top case with attached battery that is currently constrained.
Calling an Apple store over the phone to make an appointment?
Everytime I've tried to do that I get routed to central customer service.
I've never been able to reach an individual Apple Store directly.
It's stored in the battery and is used to prevent overcharging which could burn down your house, so cannot be tampered with.Time to find out where that .plist or whatever is stored and wipe it, lol. Although it's probably stored in the SMC or whatever. Not sure if you can flash that.
Reddit guy is full of ****, sorry folks....there is more to his story or he is just a pathological liar. There is just simply no way that Apple would just say “we’re gonna charge you 200 and give you a 5 year newer computer” for just a battery. Perhaps a year or two newer, but no way...
2012 Classic, the last good computer Apple made.Is this Retina models only? I have a 2012 Classic but it still works like a champ. Guess I don't need it replaced anyways but still curious
I have a late 2013 15" retina with 0,81% and over 1000 cycles Why am I not included? And btw the fans are running like 24/7 and always as hot as a oven?!
Haha, I like my house. So I guess the SMC reads that information? Still might be possible to trick the SMC from reading that number from somewhere arbitrary but I still wouldn't mess with it since it controls things like temperature/fan control. But I'm sure someone with a lot more experience and knowledge than me could pull it off and probably already has. It's stored in the battery and is used to prevent overcharging which could burn down your house, so cannot be tampered with.
Apple has done this for years with every device. This isn't news.
