just echoing psynnott, happened to me too. 2012 2.6ghz, 16gb, 512gb with GT650m swapped out for brand new 2017tb base model with 512gb storage for the princely sum of 200 quid. turnaround time was about 3 weeks.
and once again to psynnott the OP in a thread on Macrumours where I stumbled across this, THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!
What store did you go to?
I have a mid 2012 retina 13" I got in December of 2012. My battery only lasts a few hours. It's out of warranty now. I wonder if they'll accept it
Dang. I have a Late-2013 15" MBP with battery issues. Guess I'm not eligible under this.
and then some more $$$ due to the new keyboard.they'd have to pay me extra compensation to take a touch bar model as replacement!
This is where people will start furiously cycling their batteries to get the service recommendation to come up in the hopes of a free upgrade only to find the genius guys extract some kind of usage data, see right through it and do nothing of the sort...
Yeah, I also had them check the GPU. So far it's still working. I just wish it had USB 3.0 built into it. This was one of the last upgrade-able Macbook Pro's. Sad thing is that I have had 16GBs of Ram in it almost from the day I got it. My next Mac maybe a iMac. Since I would like at least 32GBs of ram on my next machine. Very Tempted to make a hackintosh17" : I had the battery replaced in December and asked to test the GPU, the GPU died at the beginning of January, Apple said they did not have parts so they refused to do anything about it.
The GPU had already been "repaired" twice.
Now I use a PC.

No. When I tried to replace the battery of my 2012 MacBook Air the first time, the Apple rep told me that their system doesn't even allow them to put an order for a new battery if the diagnosis test didn't show it needed to be serviced. They have a threshold the diagnosis test needs to fail, even if I wanted to pay. Mine was almost at the threshold, but not quite. Luckily months later it went over the threshold so I can get it replaced. Can you still get a new battery with out of warranty service if your device doesn't show that it needs service? Like if you just wanted a newer battery? I have a mid-2012 model and would love anything 2014 or newer that supports 4K external displays at 60Hz, lol. The battery life has dropped a bit over the years, but IDK what the life is at currently since I'm at work.
Have anyone tried this at an Apple Authorises Service Provider? I have 335 cycles and the Battery to service notice, but as I'm residing in Ireland currently, I have no access to an Apple Store..
