New apple couch will have slots just small enough that the remote can’t fall through… The couch will of course include an Air Tag… in case your friends try to steal it…

The device doesn't leave the home, it's not asinine they didn't include it. You don't need U1 in the new remote – you want it in the new remote.

Exactly. This has to be one of the dumbest comment threads I’ve read in a long time. I read through these outraged responses and I can’t help but realize I can’t relate to 99% of you people. What kind of ridiculous world do you live in where you’re upset that your remote control doesn’t have a location tracker. Wtf are you people doing with your remote controls? Lol

Now that I have the new remote, I can see why Apple said what they did. I still think the function could have been added without adding to the weight or size of the remote. Not having it isn't a big deal to me. I normally don't have a problem misplacing remotes.

Some people carry their remote around because they're doing things in another room, like cooking/cleaning/whatever, and you don't want to just use your phone because you might get a phone call and need to mute the TV, or you're using your cable TV provider's app and are switching between channels during commercials/when the next thing comes on.

I guess they are not 'courageous' enough to admit that few people used the feature so they left it out. Or they forgot about it.

You are missing point of wanting the feature. It is enough that there is a real demand for this feature, this is a "real life" problem. We are the customers requesting this feature. If remotes only get misplaced in sofas there would be no desire this feature, but that is of course not true.

in my mind, they knew that he was going to come across as really stupid and off the mark but probably a decoy and better than discounting airtags ("we sell 'em but you actually don't really need 'em") or discounting the organization ("we actually don't talk to each other")

At least I hope so - if not, I would definitely be scared about future Apple products if that's the type that's leading product marketing.

Well they use to sell a strap for the remot, it plugs into the lighting port. but it won’t stay in the new Siri Remot!

It’s so hilarious to me that this exec’s statement basically means you shouldn’t be using AirTags on anything that’s the same size as or bigger than an AppleTV remote because they’re big and hard to lose. So the only use case is an item smaller than an AppleTV remote but bigger than an AirTag? Seems like the AirTags are pointless if that’s all they’re good for.

Thicker and harder to lose? HaHa that just about sums up why I don’t need any AirTags in my life.

For those that claim it is best to try to control your whole family so that you don't ever lose the remote, you are settling for a lower level of control. If you can't eliminate the need for the remote or do it some other way, engineer a way to find it. Telling people not to lose it is the second to worst way. The last option is to make it so big that it won't get lost.

Many use the remote from multiple rooms if they have an open concept house. It is easy to put it somewhere while doing something else so that it is close by.

I'm not sure how the concept of losing a remote became so complex an inverted triangle chart was needed.

How's this? People should be considerate and put things back where they belong when they're done with them.

Unfortunately, should do something is not a guarantee. Even though people have the best intentions, things happen. That is basically what the triangle shows. I have misplaced the remote while cooking, although not to the point where I would need a find my app use for it. It has also been buried under newspapers or mail (yes that does exist for people - probably the ones who mention in-laws or parents in their illustrative posts. While having a U1 is by no means a requirement, neither is an AppleTV in the first place. It would probably be a quite useful feature for many folks that don't live in Jony Ive utopian houses where the remote is the only thing in the room.

It's all Ive's fault, anyway. The previous remote has his name written all over it.

I'm have adhd. I do things, like put a remote down, without having a single active thought about. I don't really care that the remote doesn't have a find my feature. I'll live.

What I do care about is people like you somehow thinking that that I just have try harder.

I'm short, too. But you know, I'll be able dunk -- just gotta try harder!
