Even though we're on M5 now, I see no reason to upgrade from my M1 Max MBP. A new design or new screen technology would make me want the new model, but no physical changes other than a chip swap means my 4-year-old laptop is still perfectly good.

If there's no event, then the updates are likely just chip swaps. And that's good, Apple should be updating the chips regularly (more than has been done for the AirPods Max), but if you already have an "M" device, there's probably not much reason to upgrade.
I'm in the same position.... I work with my MBP M1 Max plugged into a ultrawide, so it stays docked almost continuously.... The only thing that could push me over the edge would be the GPU upgrades at this point.

Though since it remains docked, I am now thinking Mac Studio as my replacement with a MB Air 15 to replace my MB Pro for any mobility requirements.

But.....unfortunately for the GPU reason of upgrading: the two games I previously played on the Mac (Skylines and Surviving Mars), well, Skylines II refuses to support Mac and while Surviving Mars did support it - the re-release appears like it may not.... Its so frustrating now that Apple has pretty decent GPUs and that their laptops are now everywhere... that studios are pulling support.

For those curious, Apple won't release anything today. I looked back at the schedule and in 2020, Columbus day was Oct 12th, with Apple's press release on Tuesday the 13th.

Both 2021 and 2022 had October pre-releases on Oct 18th.

I'm 100% certain, if Apple is indeed scheduled to release anything this week, it will begin tomorrow.

No mention of iPad Mini?
They just launched a new one last year though

Then again, it was a good few years that it got any updates, but it really was a slap in the face to us consumers (much like the upgrade to the AirPods Max, which only really just changed out the lightning port to USB-C finally) with the only real change being an upgrade to the display which eliminated the jelly scrolling problem (which honestly, as someone who has the 6th gen, really can't notice it)

It is genuinely infuriating how consumers refuse to support Apple's vision. The Vision Pro could be the start of a new computing era.

People aren't opposed to augmented reality, they are opposed to wearing a giant helmet that walls you off from the world around you, creates a feeling of isolation and makes people around you feel awkward being around you. The googles are a monster, a prettied up monster, but they are a monster. If I'm sitting on the couch with that, chained to my battery pack... my wife and kids will disown me. The idea is there... the execution remains a failure.

I mean, I understand, a bit like the Mac Mini, it's not a frequently updated product, but Apple themselves leaked back in August an incoming A19 Pro iPad Mini, and, as I'm looking to buy one, would like to get the refreshed model (WiFi 7, and improved RAM / GPU would be very welcomed, especially if they give it feature parity with the iPad Air in iPadOS).

I don't expect them to refresh it this year as all A19 production is surely being absorbed by the new iPhones, but Spring 2026 sounds probable (though I guess it can be pushed further still).

ha. I work at a non-profit (church) and have 6 kids. For us it isn't refusal. It's reality.

But thanks to the demos, we went back to the store I once worked at so that my son who loves tech could at least experience what we can’t afford.

It solved so many obvious problems. Like forgetting to pack the right mixtape for a road trip. Ot trying to decide which tapes would fit in hand-baggage.
Oh yes definitely - I remember carrying around loads of mini-discs (remember them?) in my bag when I was commuting.

First world problems, as they say. But nearly all consumer tech isn't solving an important need - just a consumer need.

As a VR enthusiast, an Apple VR enthusiast, or a APPL owner? Can be a combination of all 3. :)

If they rebrand the Apple TV+ surly there must be something in terms of Apple TV hardware?
You’d think so but the Apple TV rumour rollercoaster just doesn’t seem to end. I was hoping for a bit more fanfare and something we didn’t expect, but personally I’ll just take a weak press release at this point. I just want an upgrade

Maybe the Apple TV hardware will be gone and we get something that is the Apple home device that just brings the old Apple TV functionality. I mean, essentially the Apple TV currently is the Home Central already anyway.

Id love to see an audio out (yes, I am a fool) for Apple Music to go into my very old school from the 80s hifi stereo system with no airplay. Always hated that Apple TV needs the screen on to get music to my stereo.

You got to see, you also need something worth upgrading. Unless one wants to make it a video game console IDK what more than the 4k streaming box is needed. I am still on my 1080p and I don´t have any issues beyond gaming. Everything runs smooth.

I hope that's a joke. If not, it's not the consumer's responsibility to "support" anything. In any case, except for niche design 3-D visualization applications that benefit from 3-D, I don't see how it would represent an entirely "new computing error" ,until the Vision Pro descendant can completely, 100%, replace a laptop computer. It's conceptually too clunky for a casual display, but would work fine as an alternative to an even clunkier laptop.

I have a circa 2021 M1 MacBook Pro with 32 MB RAM and 1TB SSD. I use it a lot even more than the M3 MBP my employer got me. Any speculation what the M5 MBP might feature and can I hope to add RAM to this base model? I see that the currently available M4 base model can have RAM added to 32GB. TIA.

Amongst early adopters that buy the latest Apple products, there are a substantial number whose narcissistic tendencies are satiated by showing off their new iPhone, iPad, MacBook in public.

AVP is relegated to indoor use in one's residence. This prevents buyers from engaging in one of their favorite activities.
You're acting like showing off online isnt a very common thing.
