Unless it is significantly smaller (which it doesn't appear to be so far) and allows for more information in the status bar (battery percentage please), just keep the notch until they can remove it entirely.

This implementation doesn't solve the problems the hole punch did on Android phones. There, you got most of your screen back. Here, you get outlines of screen but no more usable real estate. If you can't get it all into a hole punch, why bother?

It's a matter of TWO cutouts. The notch is butt ugly.... but if you can't get engineering of the camera and sensor to allow for a hole punch, wait until you can. The hole punch on my old galaxy and old LG in the upper right really did give some good screen space that was usable, but this doesn't help there.

I can't wait to see the wall-papers people come up with to leverage the hole. Will be more challenging than BB8's eye in the corner.

I really don't understand why some people are so dead-set against having a small bezel space up top for the cameras and other sensors. Are notches and pill-holes really better? I'd rather have a bezel.

And then the 15 Pro will just get one smaller pill shape. And then the iPhone 16 will get the smaller pill shape, and the iPhone 16 Pro will get a hole punch. And then the iPhone 17 will get a hole punch, and the iPhone 17 Pro will get an under-display camera/sensor. And then the iPhone 18 will get the under display camera/sensor and the iPhone 18 Pro will fold in half. And then the iPhone 19 will fold in half, and the iPhone 19 will fold in half but be bigger with smaller bezels. And then the iPhone 20 will fold in half but be bigger with smaller bezels, and the iPhone 20 Pro will unfold twice into an iPad Pro. And so on and so forth until the iPhone 30 Pro is a contact lens that fits directly onto your eyeball and is powered by your body's electrical field, kinetic motion, and solar which also protects your eyes from UV and can project a display onto any surface imaginable and connect wirelessly to components in whatever newer electronics are around you to give you feedback without needing displays on anything.

All four iPhone 15 models slated for release next year will feature a pill-and-hole display design that replaces the notch, according to display industry consultant Ross Young, who has a respectable track record with display-related information.

In a tweet, Young shared a roadmap that indicates both standard and Pro models of the iPhone 15 will feature the pill-and-hole layout, which refers to a pill-shaped cutout for Face ID sensors and a hole for the front camera. By comparison, only iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to switch to the pill-and-hole design this year, with the standard iPhone 14 models expected to retain the same notch as iPhone 13 models.

Young believes that Apple's end goal is to move Face ID sensors and the front camera completely under the display. If development is successful, he expects this transition to begin with under-screen Face ID on iPhone 16 Pro models in 2024, followed by under-screen Face ID and an under-screen front camera on iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 14 lineup in September, barring any major supply chain disruptions. For the Pro models, an upgraded 48-megapixel rear camera is expected to enable 8K video recording, up from 4K currently.

Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, has in the past accurately revealed that the sixth-generation iPad mini would feature an 8.3-inch display and that the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models would feature ProMotion.

Actually, I'm one of the few people left who want a bezel. I hate the no bezel look, since my thumb will always cover a part of the screen when I hold a no bezel phone.

Apple can make a phone with hole punch beneath a notch and bezel, folks will still buy it. That's how Steve would have done it. Not the 3 in 1 monstrosity?, but he wouldn't listen to the critism. He'd be my way or the highway.?
