The iPad Pro has been on an 18 month update cycle since it appeeared 8 years ago and the iPad Mini has always had a sporadic update cycle. Really not suprised we didn’t see those updated.

My guess… iPad Mini & Air for the Spring Event including maybe SE iPhone.

And new iPad Pros for WWDC.

Never. Apple want you to buy both.
The Steve Jobs philosophy of not caring if you cannibalise another product if it meant the product better is dead :(

I’m still going with my iPad Pro 2017 12.9” and it’s still running completely fine except for needing to be charged frequently which is okay for me. That alone is quite impressive I guess.

Given the lapse in iPad Air updates this year & much like the iMac... the iPad Air should jump from M1 to M3. If indeed iPad Pros go up in price because of OLED displays, the iPad Air coming in 2 sizes makes perfect sense to bridge the gap. The lineup will be setup just like the iPhone with iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Plus & iPhone 15 Pro/iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Yep, that's what I speculated as well here:

I predict iPad Pro with 11-inch OLED will start from $999, just like iPhone Pro lineup

iPad Pros get M3.
iPad Air gets M2.
iPad Mini gets M1?
iPad 11 gets A16?
iPad 9 gets axed.

A variant of A17 makes the most sense for the Mini. It will likely have a slight downclock like the current A15 does, to let them use chips that didn’t quite pass muster for iPhone use, it gives it all the newer GPU features, but it doesn’t go overkill on power draw or size like an M1 would do.

M1 is actually behind the current Mini, as it’s A14 derived. It would be a sidegrade in a lot of respects.

I retired my interest in the iPad when the M2 Air came out. They need to do something big with the OS. My Pro Max phone covers most of the reasons I would even pick up my 2018 12.9 iPP.

Apple plans to update its entire iPad lineup throughout 2024, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This means new models of the iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and entry-level iPad can be expected to launch next year.

M3-iPad-Feature-3.jpg

Gurman touched on the lack of new iPads and AirPods heading into the holiday shopping season in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter:2023 is expected to be the first year without any new iPads released since Apple first unveiled the device in 2010, so updates to all models next year sounds likely.

When Each iPad Model Was Last Updated
  • iPad Pro: October 2022
  • iPad: October 2022
  • iPad Air: March 2022
  • iPad mini: September 2021
Gurman previously reported that the low-end to mid-range iPads could be updated as early as March 2024, while he expects new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with the M3 chip and OLED displays to launch in the first half of 2024. The next iPad Air and iPad mini are likely to be equipped with M2 and A16 Bionic chips, respectively.

Pay full price for m3 right before m4 launches? Yea no thanks

Apple: "Today we're adding a 12.9" iPad Air to our incredibly bloated lineup and eliminating nothing."
It would be interesting if they made the 12.9" Air a 10:7 display the same as the rest of the lineup, excluding the existing 12.9" Pro - for content consumption (which would surely be what this is geared towards) that would mean quite a big difference for 16:9 and wider content. They could also move the new ~11.1" Pro back to 4:3 which is better for digital art, etc. If the price increase rumours are true, that will certainly simplify things for a lot of people, I can't think of many that are going to even consider dropping probably £1,899+ on an iPad, no matter how 'Pro' it is.

People who need a new iPad, and don’t want to buy one that’s been out for over a year?

Like the phones - they don’t come out yearly so that people can upgrade every year - they come out yearly so that when you do decide to upgrade, whatever you buy is fairly new and modern. And of course keeps up with the competition, which is good for marketing and sales.

But it seems the yearly upgrade plan didn’t work so well with ipads. Apple did do it until 2014, then stopped doing it because people were keeping the ipads for a longer time, leading to a noticeable decline in ipad sales.

for the IPPs i hope they will get a landscape faceid and usbc ports on the left and on the right for the perfect symmetry and usability

512MB? Surely should be 1TB storage on the base model. Heck, even 2TB.

Come on Apple, you know that everyone needs it.
No, everyone does not need it. It drives me nuts that so many folks whine about raising the spec of the lowest-end devices. Just choose what you need when you buy a new device and let folks with lesser needs have cheaper lower-spec available to purchase.

I realize y'all are just whining about wanting lower prices. So whine about wanting lower prices instead of trying to tell Apple to make their low end higher without raising the price.

I know. I was being facetious and totally agree with you. Typing this on my iPad Air with 64GB, which is perfect for me.

Only iPad I ever got is a 3rd gen mini in 2015. With iPhone screen size getting bigger over the years I haven’t touched that thing in over a year. Wish the OS was more like on the Mac so I can use it like a normal computer.

It’s all about use case, right? Personally I use my 12.9 Pro for all sorts of things. I draw on it, I jot some notes from time to time, I edit photos on it, I read comics in their native size, I read magazines on it…

The issue with iPad is that the best aspects target a specific user. It’s positioned primarily as a content consumption device, and that’s why it feels off.

As others have said, iPad needs a fundamental rethink that makes it more content creation friendly. It also needs full on multitasking. I mean, even System 7 would be more useful on iPad than iPadOS is right now.

This doesn't count as a new iPad?

Apple today announced an updated version of the cellular 10th-generation iPad with eSIM support in mainland China. Apple says the device will be available to pre-order in mainland China starting October 19 and released on October 25.
