This doesn't count as a new iPad?

Apple today announced an updated version of the cellular 10th-generation iPad with eSIM support in mainland China. Apple says the device will be available to pre-order in mainland China starting October 19 and released on October 25.

It is, but it’s market specific so it doesn’t “count” in the same way that a wide release product covering the US, Europe and Asia does.

It's not a new iPad. It's basically what the rest of the world got a year earlier. Nothing new about it.

I would go farther and say that all tablets should have a 3.5mm jack because it’s practical and versatile as you say. Many users have very pricey legacy gear that uses that jack.

Well, to be fair, there are a bunch of excellent USB C dongle dacs out there that far exceed Apple’s built in audio circuits in terms of output quality.

Maybe instead Apple should add a second USB C port to the line.

But I'd reconsider this plan for an iPad Mini PRO, basically iPhone Pro Max in an iPad Mini form factor, even if priced like existing iPad Pros. Else, this 6 keeps right on rolling for perhaps the balance of the 2020s.

Omg that is like my dream device. It’d be perfect for almost everything I do.

It was acknowledged, but it was a minor update with little impact beyond China.

It is not acknowledged as in this article and other articles about correct rumours did not mention this at all.

There is a USB-C 3.5mm adaptor available.

Exactly. Everything from extremely compact dacs built into IEM cables and dongles up to full fledged, virtually desktop grade dacs that are compact, full featured and include other output options including 4.4mm balanced connections.

Is it possible that Apple might put an M3 Pro in the iPad Pro, and could be the reason for the change in the ratio of performance to efficiency cores? If they limit the Pro a bit, it’s possible they can use it in more machines.

Probably not, but it’s an interesting possibility.

I’d like to see the big pro iPad get slightly bigger so that the screen is the same size as an A4 piece of paper. I’d also like to see some weight shaved off of it. The big Pro is very heavy.
How do you suggest Apple accomplish a significant weight decrease without a major reduction in component quality?

Especially with Logic now on the iPad. It would suck needing a dongle just to plug in pro headphones….on an iPad PRO.

There’s this from earlier this year:

I’d assume they’ll move to titanium for the frame. Presumably the OLED assembly is lighter weight as well.
