Vision pro with live stream immersive 3D would sell some units... imagine 3D cameras in the pit lane or onboard the cars.
Yah if they’re not planning live immersive streaming with Vision Pro then what is Apple even doing in the media business.

This is literally the perfect live streaming opportunity for Vision Pro.

Make it happen Tim Apple!

Sports have never been my thing, but I always watch the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. Racing those cars through streets in the middle of a city is a great watch. As it'll be on TV+, gives me more of an incentive to watch more.
Monaco is literally the worst "race" of the season and has been for decades. It was different in the 60's and early 70's when cars were car narrower allowing multiple chances to overtake. But it's mostly just been a boring procession for the last 40 years.

I wonder if we are seeing Apple slowly build up their portfolio of sports rights and seeing what is the best fit for them as a company and for their TV+ service.

I was really surprised Apple didn't seriously bid on NBA rights but perhaps they're waiting for the next round which will likely be very different from these new contracts. Amazon is the new TV partner and will likely do very well.

I guess the one to go for in the future is English Premier League rights but then these will be expensive and Apple will have to pass on the costs to their subscribers.

I think if that is the part of Apple's goal, yes, that would be very cool. However, we've had very fast internet speeds of over 500MBit/downstream for 10 years now in my suburb town and Apple and other streaming services still pale in quality compared to standard Blu ray. Until all these services figure out how to get proper 1080 or 4k showing up on tv (4k is ubiquitous now with brand name tvs starting under $300) , I don't think people are going to plunk down $3000 for Vision Pro goggles to watch F1 on Apple TV for some unknown monthly service fee.

Or simply sell it as an add on like MLS.

F1 is not owned by liberty media ! Liberty media owns the commercial rights ….

And that is what would be valuable for Apple, and at an estimated value of 7$ billion, based on Formula One Group's capitalization, certainly not beyond Apple's ability to buy it. If they made it an Apple TV+ exclusive worldwide it could drive subscriptions and hardware sales.

They are buy a stream ! They have no control over content …. The can add additional commentary and presenter content but you will not get immersive Vision Pro content cause it won’t exist

F1 is not owned by liberty media ! Liberty media owns the commercial rights …. The sport is covered by the FIA which covers many branches of motorsport ! You can’t buy the governing body the FIA. 😂

Liberty actually does own the sport. The FIA is the governing body.

When American pretend to know how the world of f1 works after 5 minutes of drive to survive ! Buy this , do that , make it 4d for Vision Pro … 🙈 your buying USA right to stream some else recorded content witch is highly dictated and controlled by liberty media! And it will still be available on f1 tv pro! So it not exclusive. Apple is not buying the whole sport or the governing body or world wide coverage.…. Jeez

They have a 100 year lease lease on the commercial right from 2011!

I've followed F1 for decades and their assessment sounds pretty fair to me.
Eh, there is a budget cap that means there isn't a "richer" team, and with the recent length increases driver height isn't an issue. Its something you could say in the 90s but now is just ignorant.

FIA makes the rules... but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_One_Group

FIA sold the commercial rights to Formula One to the Formula One Group for 100 years for $360 million.

You absolutely can.

Cool, cool, cool... another service available only in U.S. And I am still waiting for language support for Siri 🙃

This is seriously fantastic. Apple has already shown F1 what they can do for the sport via technology. If you've watched F1, you've had your mind blown by the onboard cameras on the cars.

I hadn't watched Formula 1 for years and when I went back after watching F1, I was disappointed at the boring camera angles. They don't show the speed and intensity of a race. Build the whole broadcast around on-board cameras, switching between a POV from the driver and facing the driver, and include their on-board audio plus driver radios and you've got an exciting sport!

This has been the promise of Formula E. The cars are quiet so the races can be held in cities which makes it more exciting. The sport has been developing and getting better but it's not quite there yet. Originally, you had to change cars mid-race because the batteries wouldn't last long enough and you can't charge a car in a pit stop. As the cars developed, they now last the whole race and managing battery is a part of the strategy.

With Apple only getting the US rights for F1, maybe they can acquire the worldwide rights for the much cheaper Formula E and help develop the sport with their own broadcast technologies. Driver POV cameras to give a better sense of the speed, on-screen graphics developed for CarPlay showing the battery strategy. It has potential.

if i could afford an apple vision pro, and could watch the races in it, either with a POV shot of the driver..
You can see so little from the seat of an F1 car that this is the last view you'd want of any race. (Doubly so because it's incredibly bumpy, and a camera can't filter out that movement the way your brain and body do when you're sitting in the seat.)

It really doesn't, though. Street circuits are awful to watch at all levels of racing... drive a bit, 90 degree turn, drive a bit, hairpin, drive a bit, 90 degree turn, drive a bit, hairpin... and as a spectator, you're lucky to see 100 yards of track because of all the buildings in the way.

Are you joking. Crofty is terrible. Can’t stand to listen to his screaming for a minute.

Brundle is fine. He used to be better, but either he's gotten old and tired, or I've gotten old and jaded, or maybe both.

But you're absolutely right, Crofty is nearly unbearable for me. The most unrealistic thing about the movie is that Crofty didn't say anything outright stupid or even just dopey. I forget which race it was this year, and what the exact circumstances were, but I actually had to mute the sound and center myself when he said that somebody was "having a right old ding dong."

Im not into the sport at all...but that said...if i could afford an apple vision pro, and could watch the races in it, either with a POV shot of the driver...or a multi window view of all of the drivers over a holographic map of the track and where each car is, with live feeds of those POV shots...that be insane.

I saw some wild concepts (i dont know if they are actually implemented in the AVP) of Basketball, Racing and even Golf..(the most borning sport on the planet...watching and playing golf to me is like watching paint dry) though an Apple Vision Pro...with where the ball is, the various stats, etc...that be kinda cool, enough for me to want to try it out.
Honestly, the in-cockpit shots from the F1 movie were pretty cool. And apparently Apple stripped the guts of an iPhone to make those cameras movie-ready so we know they could do this for AVP.

I still won’t drop thousands on an AVP, but dozens—perhaps hundreds!—would. 😜

, back in the day it was either McLaren or Ferrari leading the worldcup

Or Williams beating everyone, if you remember those times.

I haven't watched F1 since the 2.4L V8 engines went. My times had 1.5L engines doing 1300hp, we had Murray Walker and James Hunt, then later Murray and Martin Brundle doing the commentary.

Imagine if you could have Apple Vision Pro for onboard camera views in virtual reality. And with good sound quality, for every car. It might be interesting.

Is nice to have a sport where some short dudes are treated like demigods to risk their lives and the team with more money is mathematically bound for victory.
Edit: love to see the triggered F1 fans ;)

I thought that was football/soccer.
