Vision pro with live stream immersive 3D would sell some units... imagine 3D cameras in the pit lane or onboard the cars.
AVP is the best sports viewing experience. Although it is not a 3D video stream, I tested the Lapz app (https://www.lapz.io) for AVP for a while, really showed what could be possible for F1. Being surrounded by the main feed, onboards, virtual track... just incredible.

Exactly this pretty much.

It was Geoff Crammond’s Grand Prix game that got me interested in F1

Gave up watching a few years back, found it a bit sterile, especially the new tracks, and DRS made overtaking much less of a challenge.

Seems to be getting really popular now. Not sure why though.
Drive to Survive - Netflix. That's why it's so popular now in the states.

IF Apple hasn't secured rights for immersive 3D, that would be silly.

It doesn't need to be live. It could be 24 or 48 hours after events.

Also, Apple should cut separate deals with the rights holders for the NFL to provide this service as well.

I really expected Apple to be working actively on these things when the originally released the AVP. That they've been slow to do so has been my biggest dissapointment in the product.

In my youth I used to watch them on sunday afternoons, falling asleep to the sound of the cars (that is, if it wasn't winter and there was no ski jumping).Sure, they need skills as well, but again, back in the day it was either McLaren or Ferrari leading the worldcup, because they had the most money. I haven't watched it for decades, but I've heard that Red Bull entered. They have a lot of money, so, how is it going for them? And yes, the dudes are short.
You do know there is a spending cap since 2021 now right?

A quick google just told me the NFL averages 15-20m views per game in the US.

While an F1 race averages 1.5m views.

F1 might be bigger globally. But this is in the US only where it’s much smaller than the NFL.
This is true. Although, I think NASCAR has tumbled pretty hard in viewership to the point where F1 is considered high ratings for US TV in terms of racing. The bigger downside with F1 races is depending where they are racing in the world. NASCAR is pretty consistent with its time during the season, where you could be watching F1 live at 3am.

Indy has started to rebound, plus they’ve had some collaboration with F1 from time to time.

Again Apple is quick to greatly overpay for media. Timmy Apple thinks he can become a Hollywood mogul by writing large checks to everybody.

Or Williams beating everyone, if you remember those times.

I haven't watched F1 since the 2.4L V8 engines went. My times had 1.5L engines doing 1300hp, we had Murray Walker and James Hunt, then later Murray and Martin Brundle doing the commentary.

Imagine if you could have Apple Vision Pro for onboard camera views in virtual reality. And with good sound quality, for every car. It might be interesting.
V8s will be back in 2-3 yrs. Still not same as the V10 cars.

My favorite F1 was th era from the 60's and 70's; it was a very different sport back then; it's still fun to watch but very different. Interestingly, Cadillac is fielding a team next year.
Cadillac is the Andretti team without Michael. His partner is heading it.

Here’s pix I took of Mario at Watkins Glen GP in 1978 year he won driver’s title. The good old days of F1 racing.

It is true that nobody else (ESPN, Amazon, Netflix) seemed to be willing to pay anywhere near USD150 million, but perhaps Apple has plans beyond just running the live SKY Sports feed like ESPN has done since they landed the contract and therefore were willing to pay a "premium" to ensure they secure the rights.

If you really want to watch F1 and all the behind the scene's programming that you never see on national broadcasts, you should buy F1 TV from f1tv.formula1.com like I do. I think its $85/year or something like that now.

No way Apple TV will ever have the features the native service offers. If you even dare to pair it with multiviewer.app, then you have a baller level F1 streaming setup!

Yes, I have.
Can be entertaining, I still find pro sports a mostly disgusting phenomenon.
Your comment is exactly the absolutely empty "sports is fun because it's fun" kind of objection I expect from fans of sports.
"Disgusting" is an interesting description. Humans by nature are competitive. Competition pushes us to achieve bigger things. Not just in sport, but in life. Is that "disgusting" too?

Great picture, back in the day when cigarette companies sponsored cars and series. IIRC, the JP company was one of the first to sponsor a car so the livery was not the FIA country colors.

You need Apple TV+ to watch a race? That seems short sighted on F1's part.
$150 million seems to overcome their doubts…
