just have to say, even speculation that Apple could/would raise the price, is laughbly ridiculous. i dont care if has a lightsaber blade that shoots out of the headphone jack...they will never, ever raise the price of this product.

I think it's possible that they offer a more expensive iPad Pro. Not likely. Possible. An iPad with a Retina display for a 1000 bucks. I would definitely get one.

6 mill a month?! Honestly?!?

This can only mean one of two things:

-It's gonna be cheaper, or...
-They're adding a crap load of new stuff to it.

Or, it could mean both.

Or, it could just be speculation.

In any event, as has been mentioned earlier in the thread, I also know a lot of people who didn't purchase the first gen and are waiting to see what the 2nd gen brings.

iPad 2 is gonna be HUGE! Like bigger than the 1st gen iPhone HUGE. Seriously.

I don't know guys. I mean the current iPad is plenty good for me and like the orginal iPhone and iPhone 4, I love the build quality too!!!

I think what's going to happen is that the iPad 2 will be cheapened in build quality just like the iPhone 3G and 3GS were.

If that's the case I'll have to think long and hard about upgrading to iPad 2, regardless of the features. I don't think history will be kind to the 3G and 3GS in terms of build quality and if the iPad 2 turns out to be built of plastic you can look for the same complaints and feelings of being cheated arise all over again.

Cracking iPads anyone!? Not me!!!

I want an iPad, but will hold off until 2.0 arrives.

6M/month - I dunno, but it's gonna be big!

My 2011 wish-list:

1. iPad 2.0

2. Apple stock

I've had an iPhone since 2007, but may not keep one once the smaller iPad debuts! Maybe I'll get a trac-phone for emergencies!

In that case I suspect you'll have an iPhone for a long time to come.

So ~1.33 million a month to 6 million a month. Apple really thinks that many people are holding off their iPad purchases because it doesn't have a Facetime camera? It's pretty optimistic.

Yep, they couldn't possibly be planning any other improvements.....

Yes 3G and 3GS sales really crashed due to reduced "build quality".

My prediction is that the iPad 2 could go one of two ways:

1. Major improvements with a price increase

- retina display or fairly close to it.

The fact that Apple is adding two more panel suppliers indicates that the panels will not be anything special. It's even possible that Apple will add some models with cheaper screens to compete with Android tablets.

If it doesn’t come with a lightsaber blade it will now be considered a disappointment. And it’s all your fault.
:)

If they wish to flood the market then, honestly they need to half the price of the bottom end iPad.

Of all the people I work with in my company, only myself and 1 manager has an iPad. Everyone else is struggling to make ends meet money wise.

Recession is still here, job market is very tough and prices for basic things are still going up all the time.

Currently an iPad is way to expensive for, as they say, the man in the street.

I know if you are on reasonably good money, or have a comfortable lifestyle then this may be hard to believe.

When people see they could buy a brand new 42" flat screen TV, or two Xbox360's, a quite high power laptop etc for that same amount of money, the iPad can't help but looked very overpriced.

6 million a month is incredible, thats 200,000 a day and 8,333 an hour! Imagine the rate of manufacture and the number of production lines required to knock them out that fast. It is no wonder the Chinese factories are more like cities.

Was waiting for a pocket sized iPad, but may have to take the plunge when iSight comes in.

By summer I expect every apple product from the touch upwards will be facetime compliant. And with those kind of numbers - i really do see this as the beginning of a popular new future of videochat for business and family.

Looking forward to the january relaunch.
The beginning of next year's iCal is littered with URLs to early this year of people saying it will never fly.

The iPad hasn't been out for more than two days, and it's already sinking faster than the Titanic.

Yeah, this won't just be a minor spec bump. Apple wants to dominate the market, whatever they bring to the table will be awesome; I want a retina display, dual core "A5", 1GB RAM, and less weight :p

????
There already is a pocket sized iPad - its called an iPod Touch!

I for one, certainly wont be upgrading from my current 32GB iPad to the iPad2 - especially if all I get is a front facing camera and a slightly better screen.
I have no interest in the camera - I use my iPhone 4 for FaceTime etc - and wouldnt use my iPad for that.
I have no interest in a rear facing camera - how annoying would it be to hold up a large slate to take a picture!!
Gyroscope - have it in the iPhone4 and hardly ever use it.
Screen - would be nice, but Im also happy with the screen on the current iPad for now - for me, its clear enough!

Now, if they are the only updates, I wont bother upgrading.
However, if there is more in the pipeline when the iPad is actually announced, then, and only then, I may be tempted.

if they wanna sell 6,000,000 (look at all those 0's) a month then apple will be lowering the price of these things to a base price of 400 or maybe 350 dollars.

However it is unlikely that will happen. There hasn't been any reduction in demand for the ipad so why lower the price if your already selling every device you roll off the line?

I am seeing for sure a front facing camera possibly a rear camera.
I see the same display (retina display would make the ipad cost 1,000+, and making yet another version for app developers to worry about)
512 ram for sure
possibly the same a4 chip (at this point there is no demand for a better processor in the ipad and as long as developers are happy i don't see apple upping specs for no reason apple normally doesnt get in spec wars with it's competitors and apple won't let battery life be effected for a small performance bump)
weight possibly reduced might use lighter weight materials to accomplish this.
32, 64, 128 GB versions.
same battery life.

who said anything about ipad 2?

lmao:d

Whoa, 72 million iPads in 2011, that's nuts. The highest estimate I've seen anyone make is 50 million, with most predicting 35-40 million.

They really need to improve the pdf handling capacities in order to appeal to students and the like.. at the moment, they don't even support the obligatory table of content...... it's all about pdf ;)

6m per month? yeah right lol. The only way that's going to happen is if it drops in price significantly.

I wanted the first gen, but I was going for iPhone first, I have that now. And am patiently waiting for second gen.

The iPad 1 is certainly quite awesome, why not buy the second gen? I can only imagine it will be an improvement, no matter what. Unless of course, they make it 5 inches and remove the 9,7 inched version. lol

6 million is quite a high expectation.. But I'll be pre-ordering mine! My current iPad will go to my wife. :)
