who said anything about iPad 2?

apple-imat.png

I love how you can take a photo of Steve Jobs from just about anytime and other than his illness and extreme weightloss and not know from when it was taken. The guy only wears one outfit for photoshoots! Other than his early years with a bowtie, he's wearing jeans, a black mock turtleneck and running shoes.

I want an iPad, but will hold off until 2.0 arrives.

6M/month - I dunno, but it's gonna be big!

My 2011 wish-list:

1. iPad 2.0

2. Apple stock

I've had an iPhone since 2007, but may not keep one once the smaller iPad debuts! Maybe I'll get a trac-phone for emergencies!

ha! buy aapl already............. i have too many apple too few aapl.......

i'll be in for an ipad2, heaven knows what i'll do with mbp13 after that?!

:D

Agreed that whatever it is, they're all in

Since the iPad is the runaway über-technological hit of the past year, and it paved the way for the future format of computing while opening a new market, Apple should (hopefully is) putting all chips in. That means they will be making the iPad far more than it was and taking leaps in tech.

Yeah, I agree that my #1 was kind of a reach. But I think you are right on when you say that Apple is putting all chips in. Whatever they release, it will be stretching the limits of what is possible. Even the current iPad has no match in terms of price for features. (Neither does the iPod touch).

Nothing short of propaganda and nonsense :)

Like, for example, every post you've ever made on macrumors? Lol

iPad is doomed.

(you do understand that Apple has to make enough to meet demand, which they could barely do in 2010. They're not just guessing. )

Wow, this is huge. Maybe this could happend if iPad2 cost 500 US$ and iPad1 cost 300 US$

Looking forward to jan-2011

I've been dying for an iPad, but I told my husband to give me a raincheck for Christmas...I'm waiting for the new iPad too. I could care less about the camera(s), but I surely would like better screen res and a faster processor

Slight tangent from the OP....sorry :)

.....When people see they could buy a brand new 42" flat screen TV, or two Xbox360's, a quite high power laptop etc for that same amount of money, the iPad can't help but looked very overpriced.

I'm with you on this but I think the real problem is.... people who can't "afford" an ipad are the same people who would look at it that way. Meaning, they'll go out and buy a new 42" flat screen or an Xbox for the living room and kid's room. Maybe they shouldn't do either; this is part of the reason our economy has gone down the *******.... don't you think?

When used "properly" an ipad could make a person MUCH more productive than a 42" flat screen or 2 Xbox's.... but, if they can't afford the ipad, they can't afford the 42" flat screen or 2 Xbox's.

This isn't a bad thing, it's just not how many people think anymore. It IS how our grandparents and great grandparents used to look at consumerism; it's what helped to shape the economy of the 80's and 90's.

6 million a month? 72 million a year? I have a hard time believing that.

I believe it will sell well, but not to the point where 72 million+ people a year (more 1/3 the USA population!) are buying a $500 tablet. Nice device which has its uses and lacks uses, but not needed by a lot of folk for various reasons.

I would like it if it had a killer and reliable Facetime...current FT is pretty finicky.

I predict minimal feature increases (same resolution, better ram, more storage space, maybe better battery and lighter weight, probably the same or slimmer design, face time camera and possibly rear camera), coupled with a significant price drop and standard 3G on all models. $399 base model anyone? I think they have to be lowering the price for these kinds of sales estimates, and too many new features wouldn't allow for that, nor generate a significant amount of additional interest.

According to Digitimes' sources, Apple's iPad 2 orders are expected to top 6 million units per month. In contrast, current iPad orders are only at 4 million units per quarter.

That is truly astonishing, even if high by say 2x. I remember when the iPad announced and all the naysayers thought 1-2 million per year was all they'd sell :)

Because as we all know, nobody wants one of these toys that is nothing moe than a big iPod touch, blah, blah, blah.

This is for entering new markets, but also selling to first-timers. There are many, many millions more to sell before people get their first tablet in this, the new Tabler Era of computers. This is big. Real big.

Such estimates, if true, would certainly point to greater-than-standard-Apple incremental improvements to the iPad2, as well as several new markets including China as one commented noted.

Whoa, 72 million iPads in 2011, that's nuts. The highest estimate I've seen anyone make is 50 million, with most predicting 35-40 million.

Astonishing (and wonderful!) even at 50mm.

For my part, especially using the iPad as my primary computer as I do, I most want:

-more RAM
-more powerful processor

iOS 4.2 is laggy compared to 3.2. Noticeably. And even after several restores, etc. So for me it's horsepower I'm after. Other things - better screen, cameras, etc. I would certainly welcome, but by themselves may not be enough to get me to trade up.

Ah he'll who am I kidding. I'm totally getting one :)

Not only waiting on a hopefully better iPad and sales numbers
Even better if aapl stock breaks out to 400+
And a stock split - please Mr. Jobs

more likely $499 for iPad2; $399 for iPad1 8gb.

(sorta like how they kept iPhone 3GS alive when the released the iPhone 4)

So ~1.33 million a month to 6 million a month. Apple really thinks that many people are holding off their iPad purchases because it doesn't have a Facetime camera? It's pretty optimistic.

Consider these facts:

1. Some countries cannot still buy iPads.
2. Some countries have only now been able to buy iPads.
3. In well established markets, iPads have generally been bought by the more affluent market-pioneers.
4. Version 2.0 will be a more compelling product.
5. The iPad app store infrastructure is now firmly in place (built from nada in less then a year).
6. Competition will bring more attention to the tablet market which Apple dominates.
7. The NC data center will come on-line in 2011. It's anyone's guess how it will further enhance iPhone and iPad usefulness.

It's only speculation on my part, but clothing manufactures may soon be adding a tummy-pocket to help transport the 10"iPad. See photo of Steve Ballmer showing where the iPad pocket will be positioned.

I don't know but, geez, 6 M is quite a lot!
So that would be something like than 70 M a year

If the iPad V2 comes out in April, as predicted, that only leaves 8 or 9 months of pedal-to-the-floor sales in 2011. That comes to 48 to 54 million iPads V2s, which is in line with previous estimates of 50 million.

Well, despite being a pain-in-the-ass gadfly to Apple (because I expect them to live up to what they claim to be like they used to), I was very impressed with the iPad's functionality. I did not buy one because I felt they left out important features. It looks like they are correcting those and I will definitely be buying one if that is the case - EVEN IF I ALSO BUY A WIN7 PAD! I enjoy my iPod touch and a large version of that for sitting on the couch or lounging is what I want and the book-reading for PDFs is fantastic. I have many pdfs and this makes them instantly practical whereas they weren't before. Electronic periodicals here we come!

I plan on being one of those 6 million orders per month when iPad 2 launches. I was going to get the iPad a couple of months ago, but never did. We're so close to iPad 2, that I will stick it out and wait for it.

I am not really interested in the camera's that much, but I am in hopes of increased RAM and maybe CPU speed.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Definitely want one. Was using one the other day. Every time I pull out my phone I always think to myself, "it's so tiny"! Anyways, anyone think it'd be a practical product to use as an alternative for laptops every now and then? Is the keyboard any good for it to say start an essay and later transfer it to my laptop?

I did not purchase the first version of the ipad. Im not sure why really it just didnt appeal to me. However this second version really has me excited. All the new stuff that its suppose to have really has a hold on me. I was able to shrug off version 1 but it looks like I will be buying version 2 for sure.

the only concern i have with version 2 is there has been rumors it may be thinner or using thinner glass and i dont want something thats going to crack under the slightest stress.

That's a good list of reasons, but you can also follow the iPod marketing and success. Sure, mp3 players existed before iPods, but they were totally awful and clunky. Tablets existed before ipad, but they were awful and clunky.

With the combination of portability, utility, and price, the iPad is paving a new market where it will stand pretty much alone for a few years. Because of the app store and Apple connectivity to media, the iPad will surge as the features improve and computing power widens.

Due to the rounded stomachs of most people, now, I think the pocket will be a hanging hip flap.

6 million per month? Sorry to rain on your parade, but that's never going to happen. You know why? Well, because by the time ipad2 comes out, there will be enough competition from Android tablets to reduce ipad2 demand by a significant margin.

Just because analysts or any other crackhead thinks that ipad2 will gain enough demand to even be close to 6million units doesn't make it true.
