Nothing new from Apple here. "Neo" has been used by several companies already. Actually Microsoft once was about to launch a Surface Neo. DJI had a Neo version of their drones. Airbus had a A320Neo plane. Apple simply copied from others.

I doubt that any of the negative commentaries have actually even seen or touched this product. Old saying "contempt prior to investigation leaves one in ever lasting ignorance."

Drop by an Apple Store and actually see one or even touch it. then make your judgment. I have been around Apple's products since 1990, and seeing and using a product either confirms or denies the public discourse.

This is not a computer to design space shuttle re-entry, edit a feature movie or others projects that need lots of cpu and graphic cores. The processor is from iPhone after all and we need to keep our expectations in line with what an iPhone could due on a small remote screen.

Giving it a name, along with the colours will ensure people make a "connection" with it. Like they did with the iPod Nano

You're all funny. Why can't someone own a pair of AirPods Max and still have a NEO? You are all obsessed with the idea that she should have cheap headphones or a MacBook Pro.

Finally something fun... I had the orange clamshell Mac Book 20 years ago and I loved it. iMacs were colorful and translucent, harmann kardon did Apple speakers, we had robotic arms on white iMacs, cubes, etc...
Where has all the fun gone?
Meanwhile Xiomi and other Chinese companies are releasing folding PC's with 2 screens, detachable keyboards... Phones with 200mp cameras and Leica or Zeiss components. And now a new Phone with a built in swivel camera with a stabilizer like a DJI Osmo Pocket...
Apple has a green Mac book... Yeehaw!
😛

I mean, amidst the geopolitical goings on in the world, there obviously was a deafening clamour for Apple Marketing to come out and EXPLAIN the name.

I for one, will now be able to sleep tonight.

If I didn’t have better uses for 500 notes right now, I’d be tempted to buy a ‘citrus’ one for the collection to display alongside the Key Lime (Pie) clamshell iBook.

Smart. It's a laptop filled with old tech and compromises so a brand that leans into what little is new about it is a good move.

Neo
Air
Pro

The clearly wanted a three letter MacBook modifier to fit in with all their MacBook graphics.

I guess I will be the Debbie downer here. I just don't see this. Young people and kids are growing up with touch. I just don't see how this flies with them when you have something like this (currently $399 at Costco):
Two words: Brand and ecosystem

I wasn’t really into the name at first, but it’s growing on me. I think keeping in mind the implied target demographic for this, it makes a lot more sense. The MacBook (not Air or Pro) has been out of the lineup for a while, and I think most people use “MacBook” to refer to that product category as a whole, so using the name for a singular product, at this point, would diminish the product recognition and differentiation, I feel.

I could see them using the Neo name for the iPhone #e line in the future, if they change the branding and direction of it a bit (and especially if they eventually drop the numbers altogether). Maybe even the base iPad. I don’t see it happening, but a Mac Neo could be an interesting proposition…
