Macbooks and iBooks have done this for years, except that they show the actual %. I can see how people would get confused. It's a common battery management procedure, as you can't keep them brim-full all the time for reasons I don't claim to understand.

While its nice apple makes these statements does this not say apple owners are stupid?

No, but many of them are!

Edit, I should have said, you can't become the most valuable company in the world without catering to a bunch of them!

One thing that some may not be aware of is that the 100% is an arbitrary level, and will be below the absolute maximum battery charge voltage, so there is headroom for controlled additional charging. This protects the battery from possible overcharging. In the other direction a LIon battery still has a considerable charge when the charge indicators read 0%. This is controlled by the battery's internal charge control circuitry. Operating a battery within a range less than its absolute charge/discharge levels, or watt hour capacity, will extend its useful operating life.

Apple should sell a 220vac iPad3 charging station. :)

Look at the small print on your charger. It does even more. 100-240 Vac, 50-60Hz.

Red and yellow are 100/110/120/127 Volt systems, various shades of blue and green use 200/220/230/240 Volt systems. It's a bit like driving on the left side of the road or measuring things in bodyparts.

For any given group of people, unless they are grouped by some criteria related to intelligence, some of them are stupid, most of them are average and some of them are smart.

I produced a picture that makes a supposition that is relevant to this topic.

It would be pretty great if someone clarified this on MacBooks.

So many people keep telling me that I can't leave my Mac connected all the time. Because the battery would start losing it's health. I've always said that is BS. But it wouldn't hurt to be sure of it.

As for what you said, it has to be with keeping the health of the battery, supposedly.

Depends on how old your macbook is, and what model. I know that the pre unibody macbook pros do not manage charging for you. (I still have one) i'm not sure about normal MacBooks though.

I dont think this effect was ever reported for any other ipad model 1/2.

I'm pretty sure my iPod Photo does that. I'm certain my iPhone 3G and 4S do it, as does my iPad (1). Why would anyone report expected behaviour?

Within days you will see at least one news story reporting that the glass of a New iPad will break when you drop it onto a concrete floor. Mark my words.

(damn: https://techwingz.wordpress.com/201...handles-concrete-floors-and-machine-gun-fire/)(I really need to google ***** before posting..)

It's a shame people need things explained. Didn't we cover this with the "not charging" thing the first time around?

That explains what's going on with my iPhone. Also, when I use it all day, it only goes down to 65% charge, while my friend's new Nexus dies in a couple of hours.

That's the beauty of Apple, they never do anything wrong.

That's not true. They made iMessage, the unreliable messaging system that will only be for Mountain Lion and iOS 5. Not only do they make it less accessible (many Mac and Windows users can't use it), but it's also terrible. It rarely sends my messages quickly, and half of them never send or send 30 minutes after I press "send".

They also made Ping, the buttonless iPod Shuffle, and the unreliable iMac G5.

But their products are, in general, the highest quality.

Ummm, I wonder what that would look like if graphed out...

Please let this stupidity go away now....please?

We'll always have stupid as long as people accept and believe anything and everything they hear, read, and see. If it's on TV, radio, book, magazine, newspaper or the internet, don't believe it. Everything is reinterpreted perception based on years of personal ignorance, misinformation, and bias.

They do! The current 10 watt charger works 100-240V and 50/60 Hz AC. I think you want a 20 watt charging station. Potential is measured in volts, power is measured in watts.

Likely a standard every-day natural bell-curve.

I'm pretty sure the MacBooks do that too.

Just out of curiosity: why can't the electricity from the charger simply bypass the battery and power the device directly once it's fully charged? That way, the battery would not discharge, and would not need to charge/discharge constantly, no?

Because there would be a momentary drop or lack of power when the device was unplugged causing the device to go off or crash. They get around this issue by having the device run from the battery at all times.
