there is no way the emac is going away, not for a long while
Well at-least until LCDs are comparable in price to CTRs.

But you've also got to compare things like how much power they use, and how much heat they give off. If the iMacs and eMacs had the exact same specs, and the only difference was a CTR, and the eMac was $100 cheaper, in the long run I'd say the iMac was a better choice.

Schiller: Behind this curtain, you've all been waiting for it, the ALL NEW POWERBOOK!

*applause & curtains pulled apart revealing a PB G4*

look, it has an all new extra USB port, and cool white stripe on the back

*cough*

that's all...

*Barrage of gunfire*

Funny, but I hope not!!

I would love to see an update to the Powerbook line, as thats what I'm in the market for, but I just don't see that happening in Paris. We haven't heard any rumors about depleting the channels of the current Powerbooks, and the latest revision is only 4 months old.

Bring on the iMac G5, I've been waiting a year for it.

My only decision, order from Apple or wait to order from Amazon and use my $575 in gift certificates. Probably go with Apple so I can get the damn thing and possibly CTO it.

I hope the rumours of a dual core PB are correct. I would never buy a current G4 - I'm holding out until the G5 with my iBook 800 which is starting to show its age.. but still very reliable. However a fast dual core G4 would definitely tempt me.

iPods - Really I'm getting fed up with the "new features that we aren't telling you about". Apple just tell us these bloody features.. you aren't at school now.

I hope Apple release a sub $1000 next gen iMac... but I doubt it.

The most obvious products to be launched...

As always, the standard rules should apply when hypothesizing about which products are going to be launched in Paris. Whatever you've just bought is going to be cut in price by 25%, and increased in speed/performance by 50%. And if you've just bought a piece of hardware which Apple doesn't currently sell, they're going to introduce their own version of it which will be 5 times cooler than the thing you just bought.

In my case, the last Mac-related thing I bought was a copy of MacWorld magazine, so I fully expect Apple to launch it's own magazine, with a complementary iSight Rev B stuck to the front cover, for $6.95 (not available to current MacWorld readers though).

I hope Apple releases new emacs with further price cuts to reflect advances in technology and manufacturing effeciencies...

I think we might see the new iMac edu version really drop the imac price line entry if it only comes in one standard config with no optical drive...

I really hope the bring out a new machine, halfway between the emac and imac, the so called rumored tablet mac. Cut down pb designed to slave off an existing wireless network or other machine, but powerful enough to use MS Office (with BT keyboard), Internet (with wifi) and watch movies on. Dreaming I know but it would make a fine second computer for the home

'A SuperComputer On Your Desk. What's next?'

Obviously the answer is not 'another supercomputer on your desk' so that leaves out the iMac unless it really does hang on the wall. I will go out on a limb and say we will see a 17" PowerBook G5 announced.

I would like to see more new features that have been added to Tiger 10.4 in the past few months since Steve's last demo.
....

-Superdrive

Uh there have been no updates to Tiger since Steve 'pre-viewed' it, infact Im happy to day i still have no iChat with 3 way vid, Automator is still called Pipeline, and there is a whole load of things that you saw that I am still unable to play with, ill go and cry now.

And yet im still annoyed that Im not going to this years expo again, oh well roll on London....

I think its the iMac with G5. G5 chip supply is a real problem at present so I dont see them pushing out another G5 machine when they have a demand on the PMG5 (1.8 especially) and now the iMac...

no new iSight

After a 5 week backorder, I got my (M8817LL/B) iSight 3 weeks ago. Its the same, except for a new manual and magnetic mount.

I had been hoping for an updated version, but when I got mine, I made sure the iSight and package said it was (M8817LL/B), and it does.

I think we can safely say (M8817LL/B) is not new one. Maybe another product number will satisfy this rumor, but not (M8817LL/B).

I just know Apple is going to have most of its new products in short supply. [...] And if they do ramp up production, then I expect there to be some recalls or quality control screwups. That just seems to be the Apple way these days.

It's hard to think of a quality control problem that hasn't plagued new releases recently.

My guess—the first new iMacs will spontaneously combust. Apple will state that this is "normal behavior" and "within specs."

After 6 months, Apple will quietly issue a recall program, posting it at the bottom of www.apple.com in small print.

And if Apple marketing is not sleeping, it will not be a supercomputer in your monitor of a supercomputer on the wall. What comes after that? a supercomputer in the fridge? under the couch? on the porch?

that would be stupid.

There have been no updates to Tiger (and there wont be till GM), but there has been plenty of work done on it. Remember how Steve said there were around 100 new features? The WWDC build had about 10 usable. Now there are around 40. Of course, miles to go until Tiger is ready for release, but I am doing my part with the AppleSeed program to get it ready.

And so am I, and there has been one update...

I bet you we will see a 15" Pbook G5. Just no 12" pbook.

Here's what I think we'll get:

G5 iMac (no secret there)

iWorks (new version of Appleworks, pre-installed on the iMac along with iLife 4. "Everything you need out of the box")

Keynote 2

And that's all folks.

I wonder how this lack of chips will effect iMac updates say six months from now? Will we ever see IBM to make single G5 chips exceeding let's say 2.5GHz? That doesn't even seem to worry me as much as the heat issues do though. Maybe they'll save people money on their power bill this Christmas by heating your house too :p
