Weak
Since they made such a big deal over the Nano and Rokr not too long ago, I guess Apple felt they didn't need to release anything new.
If Apple is going to update their products once in a blue moon, for God's sake just release OS X for Intel so we can move on and get decent hardware!! My Powerbook used to be the envy of my co-workers and now they laugh at how heavy it is and how crappy the screen looks while they all sit with shiny new Vaio laptops that, hardware-wise, are vastly superior to my Powerbook.
Just looking at the 12" Powerbook, this is how lame the upgrades have been since I bought my first Powerbook:
1/7/03 - 9/16/03 G4-7455 867MHz
9/16/03 - 4/19/04 G4-7447 1.0GHz
4/19/04 - 1/31/05 G4-7447 1.33GHz
1/31/05 - Present G4-7447a 1.5GHz
So, in over 2 1/2 years the CPU speed hasn't even doubled, the video card has only marginally been upgraded, slightly faster bus speeds and RAM speeds (much of this relative to the rest of the industry), and a few extra add-ons and boosts in HDD capacity. But other than some relatively small upgrades, my PB G4-1.33 isn't all the much different than my first PB G4-867 and almost 2 years lapsed between purchases.
There's been virtually no change to the design, the screen, or anything else... oh, at least the little rubber feet don't fall off like they did on my rev A Powerbook G4 and it doesnt' wobble as much and the screen wasn't put on as crooked.
Well, the latest Powerbook/iPod special ends on 9/24 which is the last day of MacExpo. Maybe, just maybe, Apple will for a change announce new hardware at the end of a conference. If not, they'd better have an upgrade coming down the pipeline soon... the Powerbook/iBooks are their best selling computer products and it's hard to justify to a non-Apple person why they should buy 2003 tech when they can spend $1700 on a 2005 Sony (or less on a Dell).
