How so, they are selling faulty equipment. Not sure why so many people give Apple a pass on these type of things.

How so, not using your warranty to get a new one until it's okay?

If the returns pile up, that flaw will be acknowledged. (Most likely has been already)

Don't think manufacturers have to disclose what is inside an electronic product and where parts are from.

Either the product works or not.

Lawyers will get a few million and the guy who started it all will get an iTunes gift card for $ 25.

Have yet to see a class action suit were the consumer got something substantial.

Is that true? Why is there such a long thread about it? Are that many people doing that? Good it sounds like the whole, hold the iPhone a certain way you have problems thing...

Maybe at first, but the problem gets worse over time. By 2 months my LG would ghost text from an email I may have spent give minutes composing so clearly that it could be read over the arabesque screensaver.

Let me guess...this is somehow not Apple's fault... right? It has to be someone else's fault!

Well put. No matter what the issue these days, it's always someone else's fault. Sickening.

BTW - I had a MBA (last year) with a bad display. Went to the Apple store, they gave me another one. We opened and tested it there, new one had same issue. They grabbed another one, we booted it up and...... perfect.

I like how that video fails to give any info on the most important variable on screen burn in - how long had the machines been sitting on that page with the screen on?

I have a 13" rMBP but haven't had any burn-in issues. I may just have a samsung panel, or it may just be I have my computer settings set like a reasonable person does, and the screen turns off after 15 minutes of idling. Not sure which at this point.

Image retention left yellowing and dynamic contrast (and a flimsier build) are why I returned to my cherry picked (I believe Sharp) Dy-serial ipad 3 from ipad 4.

They definitely need to toss ipad lack of quality control in there too. Every ipad 4 display had IR that I saw at the store and personally experienced

This issue is prevalent on my iMac even though display was replaced just before warranty went out. My next desktop Mac will not be an all-in-one model. I'll purchase a third-party display.

Exactly. If it was something that occurs within a few minutes of normal use, that would be lawsuit ready. If it's something that requires a specific brightness setting, lack of any power saving or screen saver use, and an abnormally long period of time with a static screen...not so much.

Gosh dang. I feel so sorry for those poor people who spent that ridiculous amount of money and got a freakin LG screen.

:(

I'm one of them. Don't feel sorry for me, Apple replaced my screen with a Samsung for free. Feel sorry for those with a screen issue that Apple refuses to fix.

nice to see apples usual stand on quality control and faulty components is going strong after all these years

that is, they stick their finger in there ears, cover eyes and keep stating that "we are not aware of any widespread issues, it must be just your unit that's defective" in the hope that other people might not notice the issue until they are out of warranty and then apple can sell them a new unit or charge them an astronomical fee for a "repair".

As with the Timecapsule PSU issue, the iMac screen seal dust issue and the Macbook Pro Nvidia GPU issue, and the iMac HDD issue, it takes a class action lawsuit, and a lot of negative media attention before apple will admit an issue and rectify it.

Apples treatment of customers is just like the hardware, Shiney and supurb on the surface, and as shoddy and cheap and as corner cut as they can get away with under the surface.

APPLE, Superficial is they name..

Saying that, i love my Macbook Pro (took 3 attempts to get one with no issues) and my iMac (Took 7 attempts to get one that didn't suck dust into the screen) and my iPad mini, (2nd attempt at the moment 1st one had screen issues).

If apple just admitted to these problems and dealt with them when they appeared instead of trying to ignore them in the hope they are going to go away, it would boost the perceived value of the company in the eyes of the consumer even more, give them an integrity that they have lost in recent years.

Sigh, another stupid lawsuit. Just take the thing back, I'm sure Apple will refund you.

Everyone wants a piece of the Apple pie these days.

really they will refund you? not all apple stores are so generous. some apple stores will take you to task.

and why is it a stupid lawsuit? people pay good money for rmbp and expect that they work properly.

I think its fairly shady that Apple does use two different panels and doesn't distinguish a difference.

To those who say "Oh, they will just swap it out for you, no big deal". Actually, it is a big deal. As Sweet Brown would say, "ain't nobody got time fo dat".

I know the feeling. I went through 3 MacBook Airs trying to get a Samsung screen and finally returned it all together out of frustration.

My Retina does have a Samsung, and for that I am thankful.

Wouldn't be surprised if Samsung is behind this. Would be a business strategy that is quite typical for them. Tax evasion, bribery and price fixing - why not a proxy lawsuit to smear two competitors in one go.

Nice article describing what happens to you if you speak up against Samsung in South Korea.

Whereas Apple would never be involved in tax evasion, bribery or price fixing...

:apple: Store staff should just check to see if the customer is wearing glasses and sell them the LG model. Anybody without should get the LGs. ;)

Wait I just finished watching the video.

I take it back. People do have a case.

Maybe yours, but not mine. I was told that mine was within spec and it has to be really bad before they'll replace.

They told me that too after replacing my first Samsung screen with an LG that developed the problem over time to a greater and greater extent. I told them within spec or not this was unacceptable. They agreed to replace the screen and I got a flawless Samsung.

Why is it so hard for people here to admit that Apple did something wrong?

EVERY COMPANY anywhere near that size does something just plain wrong. Why is it so hard for you to admit it?

I've spoken about it and showed it to one of the Geniuses, who acted surprised (very bad and over-emphasized acting) like he didn't know what it was. He asked the Genius next to him, who reacted the same way as if this is something nobody has ever spoke about. I mentioned it to a personal friend maybe a month later, who works at the Apple Store, and she defended them, claiming Apple doesn't inform them because Apple doesn't know either.

Looks like Apple trains their employees well. But to be honest if they want to lie to our faces or hide information from us, they should hire acting coaches.

FYI if you have a defective screen and you try to show it to a Genius, they'll act like you're crazy unless you reproduce the problem. The best way I've found to reproduce it is to turn the screen brightness all the way up for half a minute to a minute, then switch the image to a gradient. Gradients show ghosting really effectively.

The geniuses at my store knew of the problem and didn't do any acting. In fact they were quite forthright in admitting it was a problem only with one manufacturer and not another, I said LG right? And he replied yep. That's when he said they have an internal test and he'd run it to find out of the problem was in spec. Maybe it's just your Apple store that sucks.

Shouldn't matter if multiple suppliers are used as a source for components; however, it is Apple's responsibility to make sure the contracted components meets their quality standards and that those standards are specifically stated in the contract.

Now if they can prove that Apple knew there was an issue and consciously lowered their standard to meet production demands.........

Nicely put, I guess you didn't spend over 3000 Dollars on a defective product that Apple insists on being "within specification".

I would put it the other way around, Apple wants something from us (money) and at the same time ask us to keep quite when we discover that Apple sold us a sub par product.

It's obvious that a lot (who knows, maybe all) of people with LG displays (me included) have a defective screen and if Apple wouldn't be so spineless when it comes to their products' quality they would fess up and 1.) Respond to the lengthy thread on Apple's support forum and 2.) Don't give their customers lip when they ask for a screen replacement.

But I have realized that it's simply Apple in a nutshell... "You're holding it wrong".........
