Not that I'm going to buy the 5.5" model, but I hope Apple doesn't do the same thing they did with the white iPhone 4.

If this is true, the 5.5" version will be the iPhone 6S. I don't see Apple releasing the purported 5.5" version mid-cycle - that'll never happen.

Also, I highly doubt that there even is a 5.5" version due to the lack of parts leaks and the idea of Apple releasing 2 versions of the same phone in one release stage without a significant difference.

Answer me this.

An Apple store has an equal amount of 4.7" and 5.5" iPhones on Launch day.

People rush in, wanting the latest and greatest iPhone.

What do you think will happen?

Yeah right, Apple isn't delaying their iPhones for anything. There may be shortages but it will be probably be released the same time it is every year.

These rumors are all to help the "we sold out over the opening weekend story" we will undoubted get!

Every "S" model iPhone has had the same form factor of the previous model, spec bump and something unique to it. For example the 3GS featured "speed", the 4S "Siri", the 5S "security (fingerprint sensor".

If Apple did release a 6S it should have the same form factor as the iphone 6, a spec bump and something unique to it. I mean its quite possible the "S" in the 6S could be "size". who the hell knows. Apple is changing.

An Apple store has an equal amount of 4.7" and 5.5" iPhones on Launch day.

People rush in, wanting the latest and greatest iPhone.

The latest statistics show that 10 percent of smartphone users last year got a "large screen" phone, 5.5-5.7 in size (up from 5 percent the year before). So logic says 10 to 20 percent.

But since its Apple and their customers tend to go with a different "metric", I would guess one-third. (make no mistake, the 4.7 will still sell the most, but the 5.5 will take a good chunk too)

That, and many of us don't want to pay for and keep synchronized those two devices. The battery life on Note is stellar, as is the S-Pen.

Also, most people that own a Note have no problem fitting it into their front jeans pocket comfortably.

Personally, I've gotten a Note 2, 4S and Galaxy S3 in one front jean pocket with no problems. With just the Note 2, I barely feel it there.

I agree completely. I have no problems putting my apparently "too big" Note 2 in my pocket. And I don't like one hand use on my phone. So for me what is wrong with a large phone? I won't be buying an iPhone if they only release a 4.7 inch iPhone, and I'm sure that is the same with some other people too.

If Apple wanna steal some of Samsung's Note market. They need to challenge the Note. They can't challenge the Note with a 4.7 inch phone

Repeat of the iPad Mini production problems just before release. I had no trouble getting my Space Gray iPad Mini Retina LTE 128GB. I don't expect any trouble with either size. Now it the oppose where the bigger size is having trouble with the screen production and case; where back in 2013 it was the Mini that had the same problems. LOL!

Streaming is hardly new. It's not a "shakeup" either. 95% of of the content being streamed is owned by the major media players (TV and movie studios). Only a sliver is original Netflix or Amazon. I don't know of any other independents.

I think what you mean is that streaming is a "shift." But AppleTV already does directly stream TV and movies via iTunes, and has from the start. I don't know of any streaming box that lets users stream live. The cable & sat companies let you stream SOME TV live, but that isn't exactly cord cutting as you have to pay for the full service.

So again, I'm still unsure how you think Apple is missing the boat here. Apple has been slowly adding networks as they get licenses for them. I don't see how that's ignoring streaming. A new AppleTV box wouldn't be to add more streaming, that's already baked into the box. A new AppleTV is going to add iOS apps which has nothing to do with streaming. That is where the $ is for Apple.

Considering Apple has fallen to 3rd place behind the pitiful Chomecast and Roku and the fact that it hasn't seen an update in 2.5 years and continues to use a draconian interface and lack of DLNA, I would certainly say Apple is missing the boat.

Apple needs an 'iTunes match' for video and/or a unlimited streaming service like Netflix to compete.

The Apple TV offers one advantage over other platforms and that is AirPlay and Apple cannot even get AirPlay direct out of the door.

Are you kicking me

So a rumored product, is rumored to show up at a later date then was originally rumored because of rumored production issue. Yeah, ok and people get paid to write this stuff.

Nope.

First, Apple TV led in market share of stand-alone streaming devices just before the Amazon box was announced, at least according to one report: http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-tv-streaming-device-2014-4. If you have a legit report to refute please share. Apple is likely still well ahead of Chromcast and Roku.

Second, stand-alone streaming devices only account for about 10% of the streaming market. Video game players make up the bulk, with Smart TVs next. That's just for "in home" non-portable, non-computer devices.

So the boat hasn't exactly left the dock. But Apple is on board so doesn't matter anyway.

It would be interesting if Apple could get a license to stream movies and TV shows. So far that hasn't been the case and is why they bought Iovine... I mean Beats. We'll see what develops there.

In the mean time AppleTV will continue to do well if they bring on apps. THAT will become "the differentiator" among boxes, and also help solidify the iOS platform and user base.

No, I think you are not accepting the fact that we have people here that seem to feel that a 4" or perhaps 4.7" iPhone is a perfect size for a small schoolchild to use.

And yet a 5.5" iPhone would be a stupid monstrosity for a large fully grown adult male to be able to handle

Can't you see how dumb that logic is?

To a small child the iPhone may seem a nice large size, to a grown male it may seem way too small. His hands are probably twice the size of the child's.

Why would any person with half a brain think that both types of people should only have the choice of the same sized item?

4-4.7" is fine for a kid if they use both hands. The same is true for most people with a 5.5" device... they'd need to use both hands. If they want to, fine, I don't care. My mother wants the 5.5" that's coming out. I have no problem with anyone wanting any sized device.

I'll be getting the 4.7".

A fully grown male's hands are almost never 2x the size of a child's =P

I'm only 5'10", but at 7.75" long and a bit over 4" wide, my hands are a bit larger than average. On the other hand, only a very, very young/tiny child has hands that are 3.87x2" lol. Measure taht out and you'll see whwat I mean =P

I wasn't even in on that particular discussion, I just thought the 6'8" construction worker (and why is someone 6'8" more likely to be a construction worker? Or vise versa?) vs. 8 year old "slim girl" (really weird thing to say") was an incredibly stupid comparison, one that warranted scoffing at.

I wonder why HTC and Samsung don't face any of these kind of issues. New products are being released every year with multiple screen sizes.

Is there an AndroidRumors site out there? Maybe they have the same report's each year too.

I think this story has happened for every phone release and even desktop Mac too.

That's what I was thinking. Sign me up.

This just in: "a new iOS device is expected this fall, with an increase in processor speed and other improvements."

Cheque please.

My gut feeling is that once people see the 5.5" in person, they will choose it over the 4.7". The vocal minority on here that is complaining that the larger screen is too big is not representative of the market as a whole.

But if people on here had their way, the 5.5" would be produced like the 5, and the 4.7" like the 5s.

But if the 5.5" isn't coming until 2015, then people will just move to other devices that can provide that kind of screen real estate. The G3 comes out this week...

I just want a faster 5s with better battery life and camera.

I have one. But I'm going to hold on to it for now. Otherwise I'd offer to sell you my plenty fast 5s with generous battery life.

(Try to keep in mind that the 5s is light years ahead in technology for what the average consumer needs)

I'm planning to get the 4.7" but I hope they do release the 5.5" for those who want it. It's hard to hold out hope with no leaks. But I guess we'll see

My guess is, that Apple canned the idea of a 5.5" iPhone because they realized with its current design philosophy this device will simply look ridiculously huge. Face it, sticking with a Home button with scanner, symmetrical and rather biggish bezels and you simply can't come up with an elegant, compact design.

What a pity, if there is no larger screened iPhone. It would be nice, if Apple would give their customers a choice. The market for bigger screen phone is there obviously. If you ever had been to Asia, as an Apple Fan you would cringe if you see how many people are using 5+" screen sized phones. It is a market segment, Apple was totally ran over.

What I found hilarious is, how some of the posters here are justifying every step :apple: *might* be taking when rumors are popping up, by how well the frikking stock market is doing on a particular day

The G3 comes out this week...
I fondled one yesterday. It's a nice device.
There are a few other devices slated for this fall as well. The Note 4 and also a rumored "Galaxy Alpha" which is supposed to be a bit more premium than their current lineup.
Apple has a chance here to hit samsung hard. Time will tell if they can cash in on it, or blow it.

How would Apple manage all of supposed new products?

Individually each supposed new product makes sense but together it makes for an unrealistic pace for Apple introducing new products at the end of one year. Why wouln't Apple save products for 2015 to keep a steady rate of new products?

How could all the following be introduced end of 2014:

iWatch
retina Macbook Air
5.5 inch iPhone

I had no trouble getting my Space Gray iPad Mini Retina LTE 128GB.

I would say that's more to do with you buying the "least popular" (and by that, I mean the most expensive model), rather than there not being difficulties in getting them across the board.

I agree, I want a larger display than my 5" Verizon HTC Droid DNA not smaller. The G3 looks interesting but by my next Verizon upgrade in January 2015 there should be even better choices.
