There has not been one credible leak of the 5.5" iPhone. Plenty of the 4.7". Sorry folks, but come September there will be one new iPhone and it will be 4.7".

Still solves the "screen is too small" issue to some degree, but won't satisfy phablet fans.

I agree with this statement. Every year around this time is when parts leak out, and that is the best source of information for what lies ahead. So far, we've only seen 4.7' parts leak out so I believe that there will only be the 4.7 model introduced in September. Not to say the 5.5 isn't in the works but it will not launch this year unless we start seeing parts leak real soon.

This. Check out Apple stock which is up 1.4% so far today getting close to 52-week highs. There were a couple analyst upgrades which is most likely driving it, but it seems clear to me Wall Street doesn't much care if there is a 5.5" device (and maybe doesn't believe it exists).

Since when does Apple base their product decisions on what Samsung does?

You aren't that naive. are you? ALL companies based their decisions on what others are doing. Why do you think the iPad Mini exists? Why do you think there is so much secrecy on devices pre-release?

Maybe when Jobs was running things, he didn't care what others did. But the NEW Apple does, that much is clear based on the products recently being released, e.g., the Mini and the iWatch.

Then next week we’ll hear that would have been solved and the product will launch on time.

I wish I could say what I really am thinking about some of these "there will be" or "there will never be" bla bla bla, know it all statements that people post here. It really is ridiculous.

Below is an S5 compared to a Note 3. Is there really a big enough difference between the two screen sizes and size/weight to warrant two devices?

I agree... and I will add that part of what drives the sales of Samsung's Note devices is the S-Pen functionality...

The S pen is huge. I have an iPhone 5S, but I also have a Note 3 and that thing rocks pretty hard. Having a digitizer tablet in your pocket is just great engineering. Don't tell me that Samsung doesn't innovate.

What a dumb comparison. Firstly, whether the girl is "slim" or whatever the alternative is, makes no difference.

And given that only one in about 10,000 men are 6'8" or taller, who gives a ****.

No, I think you are not accepting the fact that we have people here that seem to feel that a 4" or perhaps 4.7" iPhone is a perfect size for a small schoolchild to use.

And yet a 5.5" iPhone would be a stupid monstrosity for a large fully grown adult male to be able to handle

Can't you see how dumb that logic is?

To a small child the iPhone may seem a nice large size, to a grown male it may seem way too small. His hands are probably twice the size of the child's.

Why would any person with half a brain think that both types of people should only have the choice of the same sized item?

If this is true, than Apple can kiss off a future sale by me as I was looking forward to selling my Galaxy Note 3 for a 5.5" iphone just to have a new phone to play with. So either I'll keep my Note 3 for another year or upgrade to the Note 4, but there is no way I'm going back from a phablet to a under 5" phone ever again.

I don't understand why Apple wants to limit giving people choices. Android has gotten really good lately and the high end phones are real good, so their snobbish attitude toward their customers by limiting choice isn't going to work anymore like it used to.

Once Android finishes switching over to the ART runtime, similar to what Apple uses, then Android will be "getting good". There's still too much interface sluggishness at times with their current Dalvik runtime. That's the one big thing holding Android back, compared to iOS. But once that's alleviated in the next 6 months or so (and all the apps that need modifying catch up), I think Android will be formidable.

My Note 3 running Kitkat with a Snapdragon 800 and 3GB ram is already extremely fast. Any extra speed doesn't really matter anymore unless your into benchmarks and bragging rights.

What I'm saying overall is Apple can't keep playing these games anymore as if they are the only smartphone company out there. All the new high-end Windows, Blackberrys, and Android phones are top-notch quality phones these days, they need to keep up with the competition before they get overtaken. GM for a while was also the worlds biggest company at one time too and look at where they are at now.

OK, I'll bite. How is the AppleTV the most important product segment for the next 50 years.

I'm also unsure how you infer that Apple isn't working on the next AppleTV. The MacPro also appeared to be neglected and then Apple debuted a MacPro unlike any other we'd ever seen before. But it was determined to keep the project secret so it only looked like they were sitting on their hands with the product line.

PS Iovine has hooks into all of the Entertainment industry, not just music.

Streaming is the biggest shakeup of the entertainment industry since cable TV. Average person watch 34 hours of television per week. Seems like capturing that market would be a good idea.

I agree, Apple needs to expand their hardware offerings. Prime example, they have been stuck on 64GB storage for almost three years now. My Note 3 has 160GB total storage, thanks to the new Sandisk 128GB microSD card. Plus, it has wireless AC, NFC and IRblaster to name a few technologies that iPhone is missing. They can't keep falling behind like that, no matter how many exotic materials they build iPhones out of. If it doesn't have the tech, its not as "smart" as other smartphones.

But for apps though, there are still a number of apps that are far more sluggish on Android than the equivalents are on iOS. Not a huge number, but enough to be annoying. Going over to ART will alleviate that.

And Apple has a HUGE library of movies and TV shows to stream with. Not developing Apple TV as a primary business would be foolish on Apple's part.

Exactly. And what has Apple done? Not touched it for 2.5 years nor have they made an attempt at a subscription based service.

I remember very clearly that many posters here claimed apple would NEVER release an ipad mini, right up until it was announced.

'I remember very clearly...' you do realize that, despite each person's absolute faith in their own memory, human memory has proven to be very plastic and unreliable.

Ok maybe it's not a redesign but I still don't think Apple would intentionally delay a sapphire screen to next year. We know the phone is getting redesigned this year, it would only make sense to include a new screen at that time.

It's probably not intentional based on the fact they just turned the sapphire factory on and would need 10's of millions. But I wouldn't put it past them either.

Streaming is hardly new. It's not a "shakeup" either. 95% of of the content being streamed is owned by the major media players (TV and movie studios). Only a sliver is original Netflix or Amazon. I don't know of any other independents.

I think what you mean is that streaming is a "shift." But AppleTV already does directly stream TV and movies via iTunes, and has from the start. I don't know of any streaming box that lets users stream live. The cable & sat companies let you stream SOME TV live, but that isn't exactly cord cutting as you have to pay for the full service.

So again, I'm still unsure how you think Apple is missing the boat here. Apple has been slowly adding networks as they get licenses for them. I don't see how that's ignoring streaming. A new AppleTV box wouldn't be to add more streaming, that's already baked into the box. A new AppleTV is going to add iOS apps which has nothing to do with streaming. That is where the $ is for Apple.

34 hours per week, that's 5 hours per day... When do they live?

Hmm, if that is the 5.5" Note 2, then I stand corrected. I would not have thought the size difference was that great.
But in terms of convenience to carry around, a 5.5" phone really won't fit comfortably in the front jeans pocket. So it has to go in a jacket pocket or (somewhat precariously) in the back rear pocket. I can carry my Mini in those pockets and if have the mini handy it will give me a better experience for most things.

But I do understand the concern, double the devices means double the cost for hardware and data plan. So I guess many folks like the Phablet instead of smartphone and tablet combination.

That, and many of us don't want to pay for and keep synchronized those two devices. The battery life on Note is stellar, as is the S-Pen.

Also, most people that own a Note have no problem fitting it into their front jeans pocket comfortably.

Personally, I've gotten a Note 2, 4S and Galaxy S3 in one front jean pocket with no problems. With just the Note 2, I barely feel it there.

Well, luckily you can search the forum history yourself if you don't believe me.

This place was rampant with ipad mini denials.
