5.5

5.5 inch phone doesn't even seem necessary. It is so similar in size to the mini ipad why bother? It seems much more logical to just release the 4.7 as the new phone, knock prices down for the 5s and 5c, while you sell refurbs of the 4s and 5 through back channels.

the 5.5 seems unnecessary and also the parts leaks have been much much less. Sure something is out there getting tested, so there is some stuff reported to be applicable. But the level of leaks is low.

This comment is just comedy. The limits of this ilk were pushed quite some time ago by several other manufacturers. Just keep it real.

OK, so what is the reason for the delay?

Not being a fanboy; the reality is that Apple is doing something different. It may not be better, but it is different and new, so there is a delay.

EG: Would an 8 year old slim girl holding an iPhone to her ear, be exactly the same to you as a 6ft 8" 260lb construction worker?

What a dumb comparison. Firstly, whether the girl is "slim" or whatever the alternative is, makes no difference.

And given that only one in about 10,000 men are 6'8" or taller, who gives a ****.

The Mini isn't a phone and most people can't pocket a Mini like a phone anyways.

Then substitute a 6-0 or 6-2 person. His point is the same.

Since new products always have flaws my policy over the years has become to wait for 3 months minimum with new Apple products.

By then there is plenty of supply and most issues have been taken care off.
And, sometimes you even get a spec boost here and there.

Thank you to everybody for testing the latest iPhones immediately when they come out.

There has not been one credible leak of the 5.5" iPhone. Plenty of the 4.7". Sorry folks, but come September there will be one new iPhone and it will be 4.7".

Still solves the "screen is too small" issue to some degree, but won't satisfy phablet fans.

I Figured Apple would milk the 4.7" for a year or two (or four years) THEN come out with the 5.5". Why not? They did it with the 4, 4S, 5, 5s, and 5c.

Milk the Apple fans that want larger phone (5.5") and have them buy four or five - 4.7" phones (different versions, colors etc) before you release the 5.5", and then milk THAT one as well.

Keep stock holders happy. Thats all the counts anymore.

To those FBs who are bleating "Ain't buying one" now.
Not only will you buy the 5.5" come the day, but you'll jolly well like it as well!
Because whatever Apple makes. You WILL buy. It's not debatable.
Thanks

What happened to the news about 68 million phones that were ordered by Apple so there would be no shortage and demand would be met?

If you say there is no essential difference, between an ipad mini 7.9-inch(4:3) and an 5.5-inch iphone, to be bothered about, then why bother about an 5.5-inch iphone, which is way closer to a 4-inch iphone?

Phone name of 5S in plastic

When the guts of the 5s are put into the plastic shell, will this phone be called the 5c, 5sc, 5cs, or other?

Instead of stifling the rumor mill in the SJ days, now Apple just poisons the rumor mill. Apparently.

Or... who knew it could be so difficult to make a phone with a screen larger than 4-inches. No wonder no one has done it yet

This is why we all love Apple.

They never rush an unfinished product to market. New iPhones will ONLY launch when they are perfect and ready to delight every single consumer from the moment they initiate the power on button.

This is what separates Apple from the competition - you know the masses of OEMs who are happy to launch good enough products with a ton of compromises just to meet some artificial launch date. Apple doesn't do this, and it's something we should all celebrate.

OK. Explain the iPad 3 then.

I remember very clearly that many posters here claimed apple would NEVER release an ipad mini, right up until it was announced.

But I am not basing my statement on thinking I know "The types of products Apple would or would not release."

My statement that there is no 5.5" iPhone 6 on the fact that there hasn't been any part leaks. It has happened before. In 2011, people thought we were getting this "iPhone 5":

But there were only mockups and no part leaks. There were leaked parts for the 4S, and that is the phone we got.

Of course there's going to be a 5.5 iPhone. Samsung has a similar size that sells well, so Apple will have one too. Its as simple as that. It might be later this year or early next, but it will come out.

This. Check out Apple stock which is up 1.4% so far today getting close to 52-week highs. There were a couple analyst upgrades which is most likely driving it, but it seems clear to me Wall Street doesn't much care if there is a 5.5" device (and maybe doesn't believe it exists). Below is an S5 compared to a Note 3. Is there really a big enough difference between the two screen sizes and size/weight to warrant two devices?
