The law did not allow that. It took immediate effect and a lawsuit would not put it in hold
Even if UK courts rule against Apple, I do not think they have any jurisdiction to force an American company to hand over data of French users for example. Otherwise courts in any country could demand that.

Nope, this policy was introduced by the previous government, the right wing ones, so not socialists. Both parties backed it though…

In reality this law is not intended to annoy Apple or anyone else. It was enacted to help catch terrorists and peadophiles.
Whether or not that’s a satisfactory trade off is up to the voters.

Yeah wake me up when there's actual arrests of those people going on, including the members of the royal family who got a little too friendly with Epstein. Seems more like a crescendo of anarchy-tyranny.
Bonkers that a 1000 year old nation can’t figure that out. Back in ol’ days kings had never bothered with “cultural issues” when hearing out murder cases. Indeed, a country with no free speech. Either British voters do something about that or they will find themselves out in one of the George Orwell’s greatest works, but in real life.
But what bothers me as a person from outside UK is that their MI6 wants not just the data of British citizens but also from elsewhere – be it Poland, Estonia, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland or even war-torn Ukraine. This is insane, Apple should never fall for that even if that means they will need to quit the market. Why? Because it gives so much headspace for misuse
They want access to data outside the U.K. because peadophiles around the world are using encrypted cloud services to share child abuse images. Presumably if they catch someone in the USA they would pass on that info to the USA authorities.
Where do you get the idea that the U.K. has no free speech? That’s simply not true.
I'm from the UK and I wish Apple all the best of luck in succeeding with this and getting this overturned against the fascist government we have.

To me, the hash checking solution was to preempt this action being taken by the UK gov and would have been much better than what’s being proposed now.

You say that when Trump is basically doing anything to keep Putin happy? You should be worried about your own government.
Is this really "socialist"? This law was passed during the British Conservative government administration. Authoritarian acts are means of control that extreme factions will use regardless of their position on political axes.

Do you understand the word "socialist"? It doesn't seem so. The British government is solidly capitalist.
Also the Gestapo was not socialist, it was fascist. Don't get fooled by a naive interpretation of "national socialist" as the name of the Nazi party. That was a cloak on a right-wing authoritarian regime.
Also the British law was passed under the conservative government.
