The 2019 13” MBP and the 2018 iPad Pro are close, in GeekBench scores. But that’s a pretty short run as benchmarks go. In real world usage, as soon as the iPad Pro reaches it’s thermal capacity, it’ll throttle and performance will be substantially reduced.

That’s to be expected though, and an Apple ARM CPU with proper cooling is a whole different story. Apple’s CPU design group, led by Johny Srouji, is world class.

I’m looking forward to seeing silicon optimized for laptop and desktop computers running MacOS. We’ve already seen what Apple can do with the A-series SoCs for tablet computers running iPadOS, iPhones running iOS, and HomePod and Apple TV streaming devices running derivatives of iOS. (And the S-series SIP running watchOS.)

I’d love to see the MacBook reintroduced as a 1.75 lb. 12” ultraportable running MacOS on an “X”-series CPU, with an enhanced T-series PCH-like companion chipset. A 2 lb. 14” version would be a road warrior’s dream machine imo.

People want a 15-inch MacBook Air.
Yep, that's what the MacBook line really needs. If you prefer performance rather than lightness, then the 16-inch MBP is what you need. But if you prefer lightness over performance while having a relatively big display, then you have no real choice (the MBA is only 13-inch, yet it weighs roughly the same as the 13-inch MBP). However, I don't think Apple will release a 15-inch MBA, because they want to have that kind of customer in the iPad line. A shame.

Apple doesn't sell any touch screen device beyond 13” so it makes sense to release a 15” MBA in the market.

Of course it makes sense, that's what I said, that the MacBook line really needs a 15'' MBA... but my concern is that they want that kind of customer moving to the iPad instead, so I see the 15'' MBA unlikely.

It is possible to see a 15” MBA as long as it makes sense and Apple will lose more customers to another brand of PC that offers ultrabook larger than 13” MBA.

I currently have a 2017 non-Touch Bar 13" MacBook Pro, and while I've never had any issues with my keyboard, I use a cover so maybe that's why, I still hate the typing experience and will sell mine immediately to get the new 13" or 14" Pro with the scissor keys. Hopefully in March!!!

It is redundant to make it 14” if Apple doesn't use 4K resolution. Most newer ultrabooks offer better screen resolution than 13” MBP.
Apple uses displays somewhere around 220-230 ppi. The 16” MBP display has a resolution of 3072 x 1920. A 14” MBP display would be somewhere around 2688 x 1680.

It is considered a negligible increase in resolution compared to other newer models of Ultrabooks.
Well a 14” screen isn’t all that much bigger than 13.3”, so yeah, the increase is relatively small.

But Apple isn’t interested in spec wars, they don’t really care what PC manufacturers do.

Users who want to run MacOS will buy a Mac. If someone doesn’t need or want MacOS, they can probably save money buying a PC. It’s been that way for decades.

Please Apple don't launch a:
- 14" PRO with a 10th gen i5/i7 iGPU-enabled processor (28w)
- 16" with same kind of processor without dGPU

But you can launch:
- redesigned 13" PRO with just scissor keyboard difference from 2019
- update the 16" PRO with hot dGPUs that are always on with external monitor

That way I can keep my money! Thanks 🤣

If they move to a 14", Magic Keyboard (It Just Works Reliable Keyboard), a low powered dGPU but more potent than an iGPU. Does AMD have something in their new 5000 series chips that the 16" isn't using? I wouldn't even mind, actually welcome a slightly thicker chassis to support a dGPU and get some of that 30%+ increase in active cooling. Sum it up for me to replace my mid-2015 MacBook Pro:

1. 14" Screen
2. Scissor / Magic Keyboard
3. Finally a dGPU
4. 6 core option (would still take 4)
5. Thicker chassis for cooling and battery
6. 16GB Ram as default
7. Boost default storage 256/512GB

And most importantly, because you never know in the Tim Cook era, a PHYSICAL ESCAPE KEY (see 2 for ref). Might be asking for a lot but they juiced up the new 16", the rumored new 13/14" should get the same treatment. If they go all out, it will be their #1 selling Notebook, and I bet the next few quarters will reflect such a release.

That's true, but I don't see it happening, at least for this release.

I would appreciate a 14" 16:10 display though, which I hope will happen.

Even if this thing uses the latest 10th gen intel chips, my iPad Pro will be more powerful than it, and run cooler. Can we just get on with the ARM transition please.

well putting A13 chip in will not work. The OS and apps have to be written for it, it is comparing apples and oranges.

The OS and apps are written for intel and AMD not ARM. Such thing would not even turn on that alone get boot error message.

it true most other laptop makers have better screen resolution I have not seen any for under $2,000.

so if you want 2k, 3k or 4K you are paying 2,000 or above there is nothing under 2,000.

Wish list:
- scissor keyboard
- base comes with 256 MB of storage
- mag safe (have that on my Surface pro and old Macbook Pro and it's the best)
