Yeah, I have a 2012 MBP that is on it's last legs & I will not upgrade until they upgrade the 13" to the 14" like the 16". Hopefully this is what the article is referencing.

I have a 2011 MBP and am also thinking of upgrading. If they go 14" I may pull the trigger this year even though I was hoping to get mine to the 10 year mark.

Same here! The return of the 12” with two true thunderbolt ports would do as well! Let me upgrade it to 32gb RAM and 1tb ssd while we are at it.

The Air can be had with 1 TB, FWIW.

As for RAM, the current CPU doesn't do that. But its Ice Lake successor (which hasn't launched yet) does.

Still, I don't think Apple will offer that any time soon. The bigger brother, the 13-inch Pro, also doesn't do 32 GB RAM yet.

Issue with the air (for me at least) is the choice of CPU.

Appe dropped the Air's CPU to intel's "Y" series instead of sticking with the "U" series they had been using for all of the Air's previous generations

Making the new Air effectively just a slightly upgraded MacBook. Which is not quite what I'm looking for.

Yeah, but I get why. Differentiating the Air and the 13-inch Pro is rather difficult, and this is one way to do it.

(Also, "all previous generations" isn't quite right. When the Air started, "U" CPUs weren't yet a thing, and if Intel could've offered a reasonable level of performance at 7W at the time, maybe that's what the Air would've started out with.)

The 12” MB is $400 more expensive than the 11.6” MBA. The price on newer 13” MBA and 12” MB will be more acceptable and remain the best selling entry Apple Laptop if it sticks with U-Series CPU.

Why would Apple bring back the 12” MB?

I have the 2019 MBA with 16gb and 1tb. Pity is that it’s complete piece of crap! I’m on my 3rd logicboard in 2 months, and it’s not fast enough for a simple google hangout video call on an external monitor...

No. We are talking built-in MagSafe port/cable to the MBP that can be used with USB-C Charger not using a third-party approach that looks bad.

Yes, and you can make that argument for any port that MacBooks no longer have.

Personally, I would benefit from having a built-in Ethernet port, but MacBooks haven't had those since 2012. It's unfortunate, but it also allows the machine to be thinner and lighter.

They buy the 12”MB for better lightness and smaller package than the 13”MBA. As a result, it can be even cheaper to produce and less expensive than the AIR model.

That's not how things work, which is why it was in fact more expensive than the Air.

(It's also unclear at this point that Intel would even have a suitable chip. The 4.5W Y chips went to 7W, and are now at 9W. Apple could move to Atom, but that would be way slower, and at that point, they might as well consider moving to their own chips. Another 12-inch Intel-based MacBook seems unlikely.)

14 inch MUST have

ofc, SCISSOR kb
256Gb ssd by default
16Gb ram by default
6 core CPU option

and, to complete ny wishlist, not necessary but it would be great to have dGPU option as well, something like 5300 with 4Gb would be enough

While we're wishlisting.. a matte screen would be pretty good. Although with a retina screen, I don't see them doing it.
