While I'm interested in seeing the integration with Notes, good to excellent free (and ad-free) calculators are not exactly scarce for the iPad, nor are inexpensive to more expensive but powerful options. Just off the top of my head on the free front:

- The Spotlight search field (yes, I know - but I'm always surprised to find out someone doesn't know about this option);
- NumWorks (powerful, classical layout);
- The GeoGebra and Desmos apps (multiple types and layout options for both);
- Microsoft Math Solver (handwriting oriented);
- PCalc Lite (ad-free - can be enhanced via in-app purchases)

On the paid front, I'm pretty sure that every possible option, from traditional four-function versions to symbolic math apps, as well as virtual versions of pretty much every calculator ever created by HP or TI, is available. In fact, TI has a version of its top-of-the line TI-Nspire specially designed for the iPad...
Every iPad comes with Numbers for free. Should cover anyone’s calculating needs…

Curious to see how it will handle the portrait/landscape orientation.

Whoopie this really does not mean much to me 14 years to put a calculator on the iPad really is not news 🗞️ 😂🤣

Why not just release this through the App Store instead?

Because I suspect it will be integrated into the OS somehow similar to making a quick note or PiP video, it won't just be a giant full screen calculator

I’ve got Everday Calculator for iPad. No ads and it’s free. I don’t need Apple’s version anymore. And if they don’t get their act together, over the next two or three years I’m going to find solid alternatives to each Apple device I own. The chickens are coming home to roost.

It would be cool if Apple implemented a good fractional calculator in the Calculator app. For carpentry with these silly imperial units is tough without a fractional calculator. Who can do 3 3/16" + 2 5/8" in their head? And doing on a regular decimal calculator is useless. There are paid or ad-supported apps that do it, but it will be a cold day in hell before I pay for a calculator app.

Finally they did it. And it is high time for revamp of iPhone native calculator app. It is seriously lagging when compared with competition.

1. History feature is still missing. I have to simply rely on using search option when I want to see history of my current calculation.
2. After choosing an operation, entering the second number causes the first one in the equation to disappear. Why Apple needed to blatantly replicate physical calculator?
3. I guess asking for built-in unit converter is too much while Samsung had it for years.
4. Can they simply allow us to delete any number instead of using swipe (hidden gesture) to delete numbers which is still cumbersome process as I simply can't tap, hold and drag my finger to delete my desired number. There is no backspace.

For now, you can do that in the spotlight search box. Just type something like "100 yards to inches", for some common ones you don't even need to type the latter part, like in this example, it converts it to 91.44 meters as soon as you finish typing "100 yard".

Everyone who wants Apple to develop a calculator app, why haven't you supported a developer and paid for one of theirs calculator app?

I feel like I’m in an alternate reality. USB-C iPhones? 3rd party app stores? Emulators on the App Store? Calculator app on iPads? What is this world coming to? 😂 Totally in favor of all of these btw. Took too long.

I was beginning to think the Apple TV would get a calculator app before the iPad.

That is what I am doing. I am also using the same spotlight search when I want to see history for my long addition numbers.

This is still not at all user friendly method.
