Only thing I can think of is that AirPlay from Smart TVs doesn't have the ability to read the data off the Apple Watch like iPhone, iPad and Apple TVs can. Now since those devices CAN read that data, to me its seems like a software bug or an intentional block to prevent iPhone and iPad to send/screen mirror that data to compatible AirPlay devices.

That’s a shame... I don’t get why macs don’t have native fitness app.. I mean they are trying to close the differences between macOS and iDevice OS.
I don’t have an Apple TV nor an iPad, my only option is my iPhone 6s... this is probably the only time I wish I had a bigger screen

I don’t understand why you can’t natively airplay to a Mac. If you feel bad about the iPhone 6s, just think of all the suckers that just bought an iPhone 12 mini. Hopefully this is just a bug and not a feature as it’s so much better on a big screen, like with Peloton

I wonder if this is a legal thing- their contracts with the athletes may have said they could be displayed on a person’s device but not “broadcast”.

That’s just a guess, but either way, if apple is blocking airplay for one of their apps, it’s particularly disappointing. They are supposed to be the champions of this system to let apple users see their stuff on a big screen, and there is a real threat of developers preventing that from happening just like apple might be doing here.

Just another feature that does not quite work in time for the Keynote. Give it a couple of years and Apple will eventually get the features up to average. Want excellence? You're going to have to wait a long time. But the devices look good. I suggest that you just sit in the corner and stare at your Apple device. It does look so pretty.

Add me to the group of people who do not think Apple TV’s are obsolete just because TV’s are “Smart”. Those experiences aren’t for everyone, and certainly not for me.

I do see how this could be upsetting to some, but I suspect watching fitness videos on a big screen isn’t a hard requirement for more people than the echo chamber might say otherwise.

Fitness+ working on my iPhone 11 Pro using Airplay to a Samsung TV with the Airplay app. Works without problems for the video and sound. Just what I expect and like it.
Hmmm. What model do you have? I haven’t heard of anyone who has had luck getting it to work.

Same here spent an hour updating both watch both ipad and both phone - just for it not to work on my lg oled cx.... like wtf this is a 2k$ tv that can airplay any video or music wtf is the difference with a workout.

either engineer were told to force customer on apple tv device but im the type of client that hate to be force to buy uselesss crap to add to my tv....

Like never in my life i was like yea lets buy an apple tv i dont need this other than today. why do i have an apple tv app on my lg tv but cant stream a workout.

lets all hope this was a mistake and it will be fixed in a patched, but deep inside i know its a crappy sale technique.

i was blaming peloton for not updating their app to work with ipad and the ios watch but now looking back peloton is far more advance than fitness+ and you would think that apple knew what was the market they were getting them self into ...

also just so apple is aware i tried leaving feedback on their site but there is no apple fitness icon on their apple.com/feedback but i know here was my next best place to explain my story. I waited on apple fitness + lunch to cancel my spotify , peloton and netflix to group all those together and im already having buyer remorse lol. #rentisdone

edit: pick your choice 10 in ipad or 120 in screen lol - today's workout was mental resilience,,

I have an Apple TV 4K, and recently bought a Vizio (I know I know) with airplay 2.

Haven’t touched the Apple TV once since.

I originally bought the Apple TV because smart TVs OS’s were slow garbage. This has changed DRAMATICALLY over the past few years. They are fast, responsive, and allow downloading new apps as they come out so you’re never left behind. Combine that with how crappy the Apple TV remote and I can’t see a reason to use it anymore.

OK.... like what? What's the killer app thats worth the additional $200....I guess now, Fitness + ?

Apple TV 4k gives you:

- An elegant and intuitive UI.
- A simplified single login system across services.
- Siri voice smarts.
- Intelligent content recommendations.
- The best Apple TV+ experience.
- Seamless integration with all your other Apple devices
- Phenomenal picture quality and sound
- Fitness+.

I think it's well worth the money. There's nothing like Apple TV on the market.

The incentive to buy an Apple TV is that you can use Apple Fitness+ on your big TV

unless apple come out with an apple tv that has a screen included in it those streming boxes are a thing of the past, even a cheap rca tv that you buy at walmart for 200$ has a smart tv feature / airplay on it.

its 2020 not 2004.

Does the Apple Watch have to be within Bluetooth range of the Apple TV for this to work, or just both on the same wi-fi network and logged into the same Apple ID?

My Apple TV is located in a different room (in a server cabinet) from the tv it’s playing on....am I just out of luck on this one?

I do feel there is a hard requirement in being able to see the video. I just finished a workout with my daughter. We did yoga, some strength training, and a HIIT thing. We propped up her little iPhone 7, leaning it right up against our 75 inch TV. I couldn't even see the phone.

My eyes aren't great. Even an iPad wouldn't really work for me (and I don't feel I should have to buy one). A reasonable size TV (20" maybe) would be a minimum to really enjoy the workout experience or even capture the details on form being presented.

It's hard to imagine that Apple envisioned people using a small device for this except in situations where the device could be positioned close in, like on an exercise bike. They had to imagine that their customers would expect a larger display. It's also hard to imagine that they would expect all their customers to go out and buy an Apple TV device just to get the expected experience.

I have to give Apple the benefit of the doubt. This must just be a bug.

This is trash. I have a home gym in my garage with a Vizio that is airplay 2 compatible. I have an Apple TV in the living room. I don’t see why you can’t just airplay it. The peloton app lets you do this and the Apple Watch tracks your heart rate with it. Definitely gonna keep peloton app until Apple fixes this

This is also the case for me. No airplay. But I can’t even get it to play on my tv with my atv4k, which is connected to a soundbar and an hdmi switch (for “reasons”).

We don't even ask for a proper implementation. Just let us mirror our iphone while using the fitness+ app.

I agree on needing a larger screen. I did an iPad workout -- 10 minutes core and 10 minutes strength (beginner). My iPad went from tv tray to floor, to tv tray again, and I had to wear my glasses to see what was going on.

I have an ancient Apple TV that's been okay for what it does, Amazon Fire Stick for everything else. I'm finally giving up on an Apple TV refresh and just going to buy the 32gb 4K soon. It'll make workouts much easier.

Considering I gave up the gym fees (covid spreader that it's been in AZ), I've been using Ring Fit Adventure and Fitness Boxing 2 on Nintendo Switch, and now Fitness+, I can afford to just upgrade the Apple TV finally. Just annoyed that it took this -- I really had no reason to upgrade the Apple TV at all until now, the old one worked fine. I wouldn't upgrade either, if I could AirPlay / mirror device to the TV.

I think phone/iPad are fine if you're on a treadmill or spinning on a bike, but for the strength, yoga, core, HIIT... much easier to see what's going on if it's on a big screen.

I also couldn’t get the video onto my TV using the lightening to HDMI adapter/cable. audio worked but not video. No way I am trying to follow along on an iphone sized screen. (and the iPad app isn’t even working..)
This has to be a serious dumb bug... that’s so limiting and annoying. Doesn’t need to be full quality or whatever, just mirror 1:1 the content of the screen to the tv.
Does it work with smart tv that have the Apple TV app already?
