I have a series 7 Samsung UDH and it will let me airplay the previews of the workouts on the TV but not the actual whole fitness routine-keeps saying there is a problem connecting to Apple TV.

.... I got to address this...

- Elegant and intuitive UI - the Apple TV app on my Samsung TV mirrors this interface.
- Login across services? Like how I'm currently logged into Netflix, Prime, Disney and Apple on my TV without ever having to think about it ever?
- Siri voice smarts.... ok... touche on this...but like...seriously how useful is it?
- Intelligent content recommendations. We all get this.
- The best AppleTV+ experience... ok thats' a stretch. What shows do you get to watch that I don't...also in 4K HDR..
- Seamless integration with Apple devices. I get this too on my Samsung TV... resume play, Airplay 2....
- Phenomenal picture quality??? seriously?? better than 4K HDR??
- Fitness+...ah finally... that's what we don't get... I better dig up my AppleTV for this then..

I had the 4th gen and didn't upgrade to the AppleTV 4K when I realize I can get a Samsung TV with an Apple TV built in that has all of the features. I don't miss needing yet another box at all...

I can guarantee you don't get the same buttery-smooth experience as I get on Apple TV. The Apple TV app on Samsung IS NOT the same thing as premium Apple TV 4k. Youi don't get fitness plus. And you don't get access to the Apple TV App Store.

Wholeheartedly agreed.
I’m usually lost or disappointed for those one or two features that do not work on Smart TVs like I’m used to with the Apple TV... they’re not bad, have come a long way but for example, I finish working, I already have my AirPods Pro plugged from the last zoom call and go to to the tv: press - hold the remote’s home button, tap the airplay icon, select the airpods... done. Pairing, selection and playback output to airpods in 3seconds max. How do I even output sound from a smart tv to airpods? Is that possible? I guess some do or will do... I got the very first AppleTV with the wonky touch remote, several years ago and it’s doing that.

Excellent points, and I forgot to mention the seamless AirPods integration which is another killer feature of Apple's technology.

What do you by ancient Apple TV? The one with the metallic remote? Not exactly sure what’s the minimum AppleTV requirement when using that.
Yes, the old one with the silver remote that still works fine but doesn't run tvOS. No Fitness+ (or Disney+ etc) on the old ones. It's why I spent $25 on a Fire Stick to run actual apps. I have consoles and a PC for gaming, never had the desire to spend another $200 for what the $25 Fire Stick can do (until now haha).

Aftermarket TV's don't have the same smarts that allows Apple to do magical things like Fitness+ on Apple TV.
Not talking specifically about the Fitness+. Just the concept that "Hey, you have an iPhone...you should have an apple tv by now."

Half of us will be embarrassed - either the group that says they are sure this is not a bug or the other group that says they are sure this is a bug.

I officially enter the embarrassment group named "I'm sure this is a bug".

Someone Reddit said Apple support told them you have to Add and Download the workout for AirPlay to work. Of course that didn't work for me and that person didn't say that they tried it and it worked.

Can confirm HDMI works with an iPad and a cheap $10 adapter. Zoom mode on the tv to get rid of the black borders and it looks native during a workout

Pretty sweet workaround.

Could you please clarify: TV's zoom mode (thus overriding display overscan or wide settings), or Accessibility Zoom on iPadOS?

Nice setup too. I have almost the same setup, from TV & audio to the consoles & Amazon boxes, haha.

Is there a way to disable the music? I want to watch tv while I workout NOT listen to some playlist. I'm not at gym. Also- is there a way to create custom length workouts?

The actual work out video plays?? All looks good fro me until I actually play the video, then it returns to iPhone only. Is there something special about an iPad's output??

I just contacted Apple. I was told an airplay 2 capable TV or Apple TV box is required to stream Fitness+. Period. So I'm returning my Apple Watch 6, Apple lightning hdmi adapter and canceling the service. Watching the workout videos from 7ft away on an iPhone is not acceptable to *me*. Disappointing to put it mildly.

They told you an Airplay 2 compatible tv would work? No one on the internet can get that working...

Just got it working. Thanks for the tip, @itsmeaustend! I stole my husband's $12.99 Anker USB-C to HDMI from his MacBook Pro --> monitor setup and plugged it in and it worked perfectly with my Samsung curved display smart tv (running in stupid tv mode though... I don't let Samsung connect to my wifi).

No mirroring or anything, I just plugged the cable in and it displayed. You can see in the pic, my iPad is resting below the tv (but it's really dark since the tv is bright).

Tried it this morning with a USB C to HDMI cable fro ipad to TV. No Sound, unplugged everything and tried again, and then the apple watch metrics showed up on TV, but no video. :(

Really want to enjoy this on a big screen on my deck, instead of hunched over an ipad. it would be even harder on the phone
