I mean...doesn't this apply to anything? Why is Udemy better than YouTube? Because you get well built courses with reviews to let you know if it's good, and a curriculum. Why do cooking classes when you have YouTube? Why go to college to learn how to be a joiner (talking UK college here, not US), when you can watch YouTube?

How is Fitness+ better than YouTube? It integrates into the Apple Watch/Fitness ecosystem, which gives you all your stats in relation to the video. The video production quality is guaranteed (which it isn't on YouTube), and it's easily searchable, knowing you won't get ads for products in your search results. You can filter it by your equipment level too, so you know you won't get videos telling you to use equipment X when you don't own it.

You can do fitness stuff on YouTube if you want - just like you can do anything with YouTube videos. But if you want an easier, more integrated experience, then you sign up to specialised services. It's up to you to find where the balance of price vs quality/convince falls for you.
Well said sir

How is Fitness+ different than just watching YouTube videos of workout classes?
This was my first thought. I don't see the benefit unless the classes were more like Zoom workouts with more personal guidance and instruction.

I just hope this doesn't allow Apple to take advantage of the dubious legislation that "prevents" corrupt practices in the Gym & Health Club industries.

Currently these "memberships" [read: subscription services] are extremely easy (and cheap) to initially sign up for, but canceling your membership is much more difficult. I've personally talked to an Equinox salesperson who, when questioned about the ease to cancel memberships, essentially described such practices as a (twisted) form of motivation to keep members healthy and achieving their goals.

I’m assuming that if Best Buy is offering a deal on this, we’ll soon be seeing the series 6 offered on their website?

They're not just videos. They're dynamic workouts that are tied to the music you choose and influenced by your metrics. Your Apple Watch data is collected and displayed in real time on the TV. Personalized information is also displayed like a countdown to give you motivation in the final 30 seconds of a segment according to your vitals and your own achievements based on your own data. You can also choose your level of fitness and Fitness+ will progressively give you more challenging workouts depending on your own metrics.

Exactly! I couldn’t find the Watch available on their website at all!

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Pelaton try (and fail) to sue Apple citing some sort of copying or unfair crap. They're the kind of company that would do it.
They would also have to sue Nordic trac (they have a better bike than peloton), and mirror...

watched on the iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV

Where's Mac? I have an iMac in my training room but none of these other devices (well, aside from the phone, but that's too small a screen).

Fitness+ will be available in the United States, UK, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.

Why is this geographically limited? Other than language issues of course, but if you have no problem with English, why not allow it anywhere?

Good question. It’s integrated with Apple Watch so you have important metrics on your host screen at least.
Also, Nike Training app is free so that’s another option.

Anyway, this thing will make or break with the quality of programs. Personally I’ll subscribe to this once it’s launched (paying annually of course for 40% saving). Yes, there are free services out there but good health is priceless so 🤷🏻‍♂️ in the end I’ll still win.

I am certainly capable of exercise, despite being over 50, out of shape and having a bad knee, but I want to go with programs curated by experts for certain categories of experience and fitness levels. Apple seems to be offering this.

I’ll find out soon enough.

Going out trying to cobble together something from YouTube was a disaster.

I believe this will sell well with people over 50 who’s using Apple devices.

I have never had problem cancelling any Apple services before.

I'd just like to say: Peloton is f@$d.

Peloton is $30/month plus the cost of a very expensive, overpriced treadmill whose only price is justified by the display mounted to it and the associated classes.

Fitness+ is only $9.99 and works with an iPad or any existing TV with tv and also works with dozens of other workouts, not just running — and it's included in Apple One for even less than that (essentially free with other services).

Peloton has a head start by the installed base of treadmill owners but anybody thinking of getting into smart fitness at home will think twice about spending thousands of dollars on this premium treadmill when they can instead use their Apple Watch.

I think we'll see a community build up around Fitness+ as it gets going. You'll be able to challenge your friends and join classes simultaneously.
Peloton isnt screwed just yet ....they need to lower the peloton membership to $13 to match the digital app...now if apple and nike link up for a $1500 bike that does everything peloton does....then yea watch out below because peloton staff is jumping out the window

Is there any other app which is cheaper than Fitness+ and allows the vitals collected from Apple Watch to display on Apple TV?

I just wonder how Nike—Apple’s longtime if casual partner, from the Nike+iPod sensor to the Watch—feels about this new competitor to Nike Training Club. Seems a bit odd that they didn’t go for a joint offshoot or even a wholesale rebranding.

I’ll use the free trial period to see if they have accommodations for disabled persons. The last thing I need is someone yelling at me to work harder or peddle faster.

Yeah, nah. Who wants to listen to those instructors yell at you like "How Y'all doin' today? Let's pump it up, c'mon yo" in their OMG the 80's want their neon lycra leggings back?

It’s not LOL
But Apple will install a dedicated
app on your phone and charge you $10 per month for doing so HAHA

Don't spread misinformation.

The app is already on your Watch. It's built into the Health app, which you get at no additional cost.

Fitness+ is a seamless, motivating end-to-end user experience like everything that Apple aims to build. It's not just some video you see on a big screen, it's a virtual coach, combined with metrics and monitoring.

As the video on the screen plays back, the visual elements that are displayed react to put a heavy focus on where it needs to be.

Watch the introductory video for more information.

So you'll be at McDonald's chowing down on da'burger instead? Noted.

These are Apple fitness instructors, so I'm sure they are following a strict set of guidelines for how to present. Interesting how these worlds are colliding. AppleTV+ and now fitness videos. Talk about reusing your strengths.
