im getting old ..... I was thinking to do Peloton, but their subscription is expensive.... not to mention their bike. Maybe I’ll give it a try to fitness +

Peloton workouts are killer, you can do them without their bike. And sub is cheaper without their bike because you can't compete on the leaderboards. Schwinn makes a great bike that tracks everything the Peloton trackers and it is about $800 (no builtin screen).

I am certainly capable of exercise, despite being over 50, out of shape and having a bad knee, but I want to go with programs curated by experts for certain categories of experience and fitness levels. Apple seems to be offering this.

I’ll find out soon enough.

Going out trying to cobble together something from YouTube was a disaster.
I have used Beachbody and Les Mills for years, there is lots of excellent premium content out there for working out at home.

I'd just like to say: Peloton is f@$d.

Peloton is $30/month plus the cost of a very expensive, overpriced treadmill whose only price is justified by the display mounted to it and the associated classes.

Fitness+ is only $9.99 and works with an iPad or any existing TV with tv and also works with dozens of other workouts, not just running — and it's included in Apple One for even less than that (essentially free with other services).

Peloton has a head start by the installed base of treadmill owners but anybody thinking of getting into smart fitness at home will think twice about spending thousands of dollars on this premium treadmill when they can instead use their Apple Watch.

I think we'll see a community build up around Fitness+ as it gets going. You'll be able to challenge your friends and join classes simultaneously.

Not really. Peleton’s stand-alone app is $12.99 and doesn’t require their equipment.

They definitely have more competition now, but they’re far from needing to raise the white flag. You might see them lower to $9.99 as a response.

Music to my ears. I have the digital Peloton subscription for my IC4 spin bike and really like it ($12.99CDN/9.99US per month), wife enjoys their yoga classes. If Fitness+ has good bike classes I just may switch us over. I LOVE Fitness+ includes rowing machine workouts, this is a first ever! I’m going to be so ripped spring 2021 (if I’m alive still).

Maybe they’ll launch that new Apple TV with Fitness+. My wallet has been ready for months now..

I just bought a bike trainer for my road bike so I can cycle indoors this winter (because my gym is still COVID closed). I was going to start a Zwift sub, but now will wait until Fitness+ comes along and try that instead.

Kind of cool that your stats show up on the screen. But don't they already do that on the watch? I guess having a regimented all-encompassing solution will be good for some people. Youtube workouts and flicking a look at my watch now and then, will save me $79 a year.

I wonder how this will treat multiple people working out at the same time. If my wife and I work out together. I assume it will only show stats for the person that started the workout. It would be nice to have the option of showing stats for 2 people on screen.

Here's what I'm confused about with Fitness+....

I have an Apple Watch. My wife has a Fitbit. Can she use the Fitness+ app on the Apple TV to do yoga? Or am I the only person who will be allowed to use the Fitness+ service?

I don't think anybody knows for sure, but I would assume you could still use the videos just without the live feedback on the screen.

I think this is a good start. However, equipment integration is a different market that they're missing out on. A treadmill that raises and lowers on elevation changes in the run, a bike that changes resistance depending on where they're going. Pelaton and iFit have this market and I think this shows Apple isn't diving that far into it. I view this more as an extra step on their platform with the watch they have now rather than Apple jumping into the fitness world. It's a good step and they'll still probably do fairly well, however, until they integrate with equipment, there is only so much they can do. Maybe they develop a platform for manufactures to connect to in the future? If I were them, I would have looked at making a bid to buy iFit. That would have scared Pelaton.

As someone who has managed to go from 210 pounds down to 168 in lockdown using the Apple Watch for a lot of support and motivation I like the idea of fitness+ to add more to the mix both in terms of exercise to get involved in and additional tracking and motivation.

I know a lot of people question why pay for this over watching Youtube and so on but you are not going to get that integrated experience that carries through on your overall fitness program.

I will certainly be trying it out.
Great job! I think some of us went the other direction, but to lose that much is incredible.

Probably still recovering from the SE2020+ screen protector fiasco. For real, they probably won't start sales until Friday. Is Apple the only site doing preorders?

Good job!

Unfortunately most people equate ‘getting fit’ to ‘getting ripped’ and they’re not the same at all. You don’t have to look like the rock to be fit and healthy....
Yes when I just did the treadmill at the gym every other day. I didn't lose any noticeable weight, but I definitely was much better cardio wise. I almost died going the littlest bit on speed 1 in the beginning, and in the end, my legs would start hurting before I would even feel slightly winded.

Wow I was thinking this exact thing as I read the previous post. Would be nice to have at least two show.

You could register to US App Store and read those books.

I don’t have a US payment method or billing address. Also it should be them jumping the hoops to sell me their sh*t, not me trying to buy it. Until then, too bad for them.

can somewhat understand copyrighted materials (movies, books, etc) as some countries actually have other companies being the official distributors

The worst thing is in some cases there is no official distribution at all, or they sell only part of the series (like the sci-fi stuff I mentioned before)... because reasons.

You aren't going to get fit by flailing you limbs in random directions, it takes more than that

No, it does not. A few hours per week of any intense exercise will improve your fitness levels immensely. I lost 40kg just with running outside and Nike Fitness in front of my TV (long time ago it was an Xbox app using Kinect, not sure about now).

Besides, try any decent vinyasa yoga class and see how it goes - I almost sh*t myself during my first ever downdog 😬

I understand that and you’re right of course but you could have accesses to those books and much more (think all Apple TV US channel, News(+)) today. Any US address will do. Just search the Internet. and I’m sure any country will have someone selling iTunes gift card.

Why are you comparing the value proposition of access to covid-soaked gym equipment to fitness videos?
I don't live in your covid soaked country, mate. My country locked down enough to get rid of it (barring a few outbreaks, which are then appropriately contained and isolated). We are now free to safely go about our business and fun more or less at will. It's a shame every other country didn't do the same, or we'd all be more or less back to normal by now, and travelling the world again, sigh.

Not sure about Apple, but some services will geo-lock you even if you have a US account.
